Welcome to Vermont Plank Flooring
We’re a simple company. My dad, Jack, started it up in 1958 selling the finest
landowners not far from our main mill in Brattleboro. The trees are sustainably
New England timber to customers around the world. He offered the best wood
harvested by hand when they have reached full maturity and are carefully removed
for the price and it’s been that way ever since.

Oak
Our slow growth oak is a durable and tightly grained
wood, ideal for high-traffic areas. We offer it plain
sawn (flat grain and figuring), rift sawn (straight
vertical grain), or rift and quartersawn (dazzling flecks
and swirls). Our sustainably grown oak mellows to a
golden patina over time and makes a contemporary,
comfortable, and long-lasting floor.

Rift and Quartersawn
We’ve been custom-making riftsawn and quartersawn
wood floors for over 20 years. We make these ultrastable, vertical grain floors from a wide variety of
species. The riftsawn and quartersawn techniques
produce dramatic flecks and figuring in the wood and
increase the overall hardness. Plus, they offer the best
stability of any solid wood when installed over radiant
heat or a concrete surface.

Pine
Strikingly simple in character and stable as the day is
long, slow growth pine was the wood our ancestors
chose for their own homes, with many still in use today.
They chose it not only because it was plentiful and easy
to cut and install, but also because it adds warmth and
comfort to any style home and can be stained in a wide
variety of colors.

of the most dramatic woods available. Treasured by
the finest craftsmen and held in the highest esteem by

Hickory
One of the hardest and most durable plank floors,
hickory offers dramatic grain patterns ranging from
platinum white to a warm chestnut brown. Slow
growth hickory is equally comfortable in a country
cabin or Manhattan penthouse. It can be kept natural
or stained to soften the contrast between the sapwood
and heartwood.

Birch
Combining gentle, waving grain patterns and dramatic
cascading cathedrals with colors that range from light
golden (sapwood) to earthy reddish brown (heartwood), our slow growth birch will light up any room
with its sunny glow. It is nearly as hard and durable as
maple and oak and offers a stylish alternative for hightraffic areas of your home.

Ash
One of our most popular, stable, and durable species,
slow growth white ash is equally comfortable in rustic
or formal settings. Chosen for its bright, sunny
character, ash has subtle swirling grain patterns
combined with occasional knots. We offer it in our
own Vermont Select™ grade, with a mixture of
sapwood and heartwood that further enhances the
rich character of ash.

Cherry
A rich, full-bodied wood, cherry is sustainably
harvested at the peak of its growth to produce gently
swirling character with stunning cathedrals and
cherished deep red tones. Depending how the planks
are sawn, the look of slow growth cherry can range
from rustic to formal and, if quartersawn, contemporary; cherry adds a touch of elegance to any home.

maple. Prized by the finest furniture makers, maple is
one of our warmest and most durable floors. Our

Stains
Our floors look beautiful whether you finish them with clear polyurethane or tung oil, or stain
them—with one of our custom-made stains—to dramatically alter the wood’s natural
appearance and create the perfect color to suit your home’s decor. We show our Nutmeg,
Pickled, Ebony, and Brown Maple stains on a few of our favorite wood species below.

Reclaimed
We offer reclaimed wood from barns and mills that have served the community
well, are destined for demolition, and have just the right type and quality of
wood. The structures are carefully dismantled and cut into planking to be used for
floors or barnboard.
This wood was cut from trees that lived for 100 to 200 years, and was then
used in structures for perhaps another 100. Once reclaimed it will proudly go into
your home for another lifetime or two.
We offer reclaimed floors in a variety of species including heart pine, oak,
chestnut, white pine, and milled barnwood. All of these floors qualify for LEED
credits.

Engineered
Vermont Plank Flooring recognizes the needs of homeowners wanting the
warmth and beauty of long length, wide plank hardwood floors and peace of
mind knowing that they will remain stable when installed over radiant heat or
concrete sub floors. Our Long Length™ engineered wood floors offer the best
solution and the best of all worlds.
Our engineered floors come in 5/8” and 3/4” thicknesses and have a 3/16”
wear surface made from the same sustainably grown wood used in our solid
wood floors. It also includes the most stable Baltic birch 9-layer (5/8”) or 11-layer
(3/4”) backing The floors are formaldehyde-free and emit no harmful VOCs.
