NIHON KEN INVITATIONAL UKC DOG SHOW
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 1ST, 2015
ENTRY INFORMATION ELIGIBILITY
1. Dogs must be permanently registered with UKC or have a Temporary Listing (TL)
number by the closing date and time in order to enter. No exceptions will be made.
2. Only these UKC breeds are eligible for entry at this show: Akita, Hokkaido,
Japanese Akita, Kai, Kishu, Shiba, Shikoku, and Jindo.
3. Entries for ineligible dogs will be returned.
CLASS CHANGE/CORRECTION OF ENTRY
1. Owners are responsible for the accuracy of information in the entry forms,
regardless of who may make such errors. Owners and exhibitors are responsible for
correcting any errors in their entry.
2. Dogs that have completed the requirements for a title after the closing of entries
may be transferred from the entered class to another class for which the dog is now
eligible, provided that a request for transfer is made in writing to UKC no later than
one-half hour prior to the start of any regular judging at the show.
3. All other corrections to entries must be made in writing to the Event Secretary no
later than one-half hour prior to the start of any regular judging at the show.
SCHEDULING CONFLICTS FOR DOGS
1. Exhibitors are responsible for being available for judging at the scheduled time.
2. Every possible effort will be made to accommodate exhibitors who have dogs
entered in different conformation rings, but judges are not required to wait for dogs.
Exhibitors are advised to pick up their armbands as early as possible and to notify
stewards in all rings affected by a conflict so that judges may more easily work
around any conflicts.
JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP
Junior Showmanship shall consist of the following classes:
1. Pee-Wee. 2 years and under 4 years of age.
2. Sub-Junior. 4 years and under 8 years of age.
3. Pre-Junior. 6 years and under 8 years of age.
4. Junior Classes. 8 years and under 13 years of age.
a. Novice Junior. This class is for any Junior member who has never
earned a Best Junior Handler award or who has not earned three first place
wins from the Novice Junior class.
b. Open Junior. This class is for any Junior member who has earned a
Best Junior Handler award (over an Open Junior or Open Senior) from
the Novice Junior class or who has earned three first place wins from the
Novice Junior class.
5. Senior Classes. 13 years of age and under 19 years of age.
a. Novice Senior. This class is for any Senior member who has never
earned a Best Junior Handler award or who has not earned three first place
wins from the Novice Junior or Novice Senior class.
b. Open Senior. This class is for any Senior member who has earned a
Best Junior Handler award (over an Open Junior or Open Senior) from the
Junior class or Novice Senior Class, or who has earned three first place
wins from the Novice Senior class.
6. Best Junior Handler. Best Junior Handler class shall consist of the first place
winner from the Novice Junior class, the Open Junior Class, the Novice Senior Class
and the Open Senior Class.
CONFORMATION
1. Males are judged before Females.
2. Points are awarded to the winners of the following classes offered for UKC
recognized breeds that are eligible for conformation: Puppy, Junior, Intermediate,
Adult, and Breeder/Handler, Best Male of Variety, Best Male, Best Female of
Variety, Best Female, and Best of Winners.
NON-LICENSED CLASSES
The following non-licensed classes are offered at these events. When non-licensed
classes are offered, they must be run in accordance with the procedures outlined in
the current Official UKC Rules and Regulations.
1. Novice Puppy. Novice puppy will be judged immediately following Best of
Breed judging for that breed. Novice Puppy Groups are not offered at this show.
2. Stud Dog / Brood Bitch. Each entry shall consist of a stud dog or brood bitch
and at least two but not more than four dogs produced by that dog. The progeny
must be at least three months of age and may include both sexes. At least two of the
progeny must be entered in the licensed classes. Entries shall be made in the name of
the stud dog or brood bitch. Spayed and neutered dogs are eligible to compete in
these classes but not as progeny.
3. Veteran. This class consists of dogs seven years of age or older and shall be
divided by sex. The Judge shall give up to four placements, where possible, in this
class. The Best Veteran Male shall compete with the Best Veteran Female for Best
Veteran of Breed. Spayed and neutered dogs are eligible to compete in this class.
4. Group Competition. Only Northern Group will be offered at this show. Group
competition shall include the Best of Breed winners from each of the Northern breeds
with licensed class entries in the show.

Pre-Entry Bargain Entry Fees
JACA is offering $20 bargain entry fees for pre-entry in
licensed conformation classes.
Remember, your entries must be received no later than
October 24TH, 2015. You must include payment in the amount
of $20 per dog for the pre-entry bargain. There must be no
omissions or illegible information on your entries in order to
take advantage of this rate. Incorrect or incomplete entries
will be returned along with your payment. If the corrected
entry is not received by October 24TH, 2015 it will not be
eligible for the bargain rate. No exceptions. Entry forms must
be signed to be valid!

From the 405 freeway merge onto the 110 freeway north.
Then take the 91 freeway west. Follow the directions below.
From the 91 freeway west bound take the 91 freeway
till it becomes Artesia Blvd. Turn right on South Vermont and
head north. Make a left onto W 170th street. Park is on left
hand side.

be posted on the JACA website and Facebook. They will
be available to download and share at no cost. Personal
photography is permitted and encouraged. Don’t forget to
tag #NihonKenShow2015 when you share!
Ribbons and Awards
Ribbons will be awarded to all Conformation and Junior
Handler classes. Rosettes will be awarded to the following
classes: Best & Reserve Male/Female, Best of Winners,
Champion of Champions & Reserve Champion, Grand
Champion, Best of Breed, and Group. The Group 1 rosette
will be larger as it is the highest award offered at this show.
Crating, Shade, and Water
This is an outdoor show. There are no electric hookups.
Crating space will be available. Bring your own shade and
water. Please clean your area before leaving.
Leashes
No flexi leads are allowed on the event grounds. Exhibitors
and spectators with dogs on flexi leads will be asked to
use a different leash, crate the dog, or leave the area. No
exceptions. Please keep your dog on a leash no greater than
6’ and always leashed when not in a crate. Japanese style
show leads are permitted at the event and in the ring.
Concessions
No concessions will be available, but there are several
fast food restaurants nearby. There may or may not be a
hospitality booth. Club members can pre-order lunch.
Rescue Donations Drive
JACA Rescue Committee will be accepting donations of
toys, collars, leashes, bowls, blankets, and poop bags at the
show. These items will be given to local rescue organizations
to help Akitas and other Nihon Ken in need. New and gently
used items of all sizes - from Shiba to American Akita - will
be greatly appreciated.
Donations from a previous JACA leash drive
Monetary donations will also accepted and can directly aid
rescue organizations where its most needed. Please make
checks payable to JACA and write “Rescue Fund” in the
memo. Can’t attend the show but still want to help? You can
mail funds to JACA at this address. (Please no items.)

Silent Auction
Join JACA for a silent auction to raise money to support the
club and dog rescues. Nihon Ken and Japanese themed
items will be available including a stained glass Japanese
Akita and an Akita statue. There will also be gear for your
dogs and some JACA swag - check Facebook as the event
approaches to learn more about the auction items! Must be
at the show to bid and win.

Jaiken the Akita Photo Op
Jaiken, the giant inflatable Akita, will be back and dressed
for the occasion. Take a “selfie” with Jaiken and your dog to
commemorate the event. Don’t forget to tag #JACAJaiken

Cooper may be available at the show. Support JACA and

Notice to Exhibitors
These events are being hosted by the Japanese Akita Club of America and
are United Kennel Club (UKC) licensed conformation shows. All UKC rules
and regulations will apply.
Entries to all UKC events for both licensed and non-licensed classes must be
submitted using the most current official UKC forms.
Exhibitors through their submission of entry acknowledge that they are
knowledgeable of the UKC rules and regulations.
The use of alcohol or illegal drugs at a UKC event is prohibited. Violators may
be excused from the ring by the judge and from the show or event grounds by
the Event Committee or any officer of the host club.
UKC exhibitors and spectators are expected to display good behavior and
good sportsmanship in and out of the ring.
Exhibitors and handlers will be held responsible for cleaning up after their
dogs and maintaining a clean crating and /or grooming area.
There shall be no refunds for entries withdrawn after the closure date or in the
event a dog and /or handler are dismissed from competition, regardless of
reason for dismissal.
Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. There will be a $35 service
charge on all returned checks.
Parents or guardians are solely responsible for their children and are expected
to keep them supervised and controlled at all times for their own safety.
Japanese Akita Club of America will not be responsible for loss or damage to
any dog exhibited or for the possessions of any exhibitor, whether the result
be accident or another cause.
If, because of riots, civil disturbances, weather or other act beyond the control
of the management, it is impossible to open or complete this show, no refund
of entry fees will be made. No substitutions are allowed.

TL NUMBERS. JACA will not issue Temporary Listing (TL) numbers at this
show. In order to enter the show, your dog must either be permanently
registered with UKC or have a Temporary Listing number.

SELF-CLEANING SHOW. Please, pack in /pack out. Clean up after your
dog(s) including fur. Leave your area the same as when you arrived.
DRY RV PARKING. Dry RV Parking may be available a few blocks from the
show. Additional information will follow.
SUPPORT GARDENA. We love having our show in Gardena and want to
be welcomed back next year. Please support Gardena businesses. There are
