Dear AOSD Members and Chairman Mr. Nakashima,
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to welcome you to this exciting conference
in Fukuoka, Japan. I am informed AOSD has been holding
International Conferences every third year in various kinds
of economic conditions.
While the conference is aimed at discussing serious issues
related to the industry, we urge you to take time to enjoy
Fukuoka and the rest of Kyushu Island, which is one of the four
main islands of Japan and the nearest to other Asian countries.
Fukuoka has excellent access compared with many other cities.
The airport is connected to major Asian cities by direct routes,
and access to the downtown area is only 10 minutes by subway.
Other attractive aspects of Fukuoka are its traditional culture,
the fresh seafood, and the harmonious sight of the modern
architecture in the inner city contrasted with the lush greenery
in the suburbs.
On behalf of the Association of Asia-Oceanic Steel Drum Manufacturers
(AOSD) and Japan Steel Drum Association(JSDA), I am honored to
invite you to the 7th AOSD International Conference, which will be
held on September 8th-9th, 2010 at the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk
(hotel) in Fukuoka, Japan.

Steel drum industries around the world were more or less influenced
by the recent worldwide financial crisis triggered by the failure of
Lehman Brothers. We can now exchange our experience after
the Lehman Shock and share ideas regarding further challenges for
the future. The strengthening of the competitive performance of
steel drums is highly anticipated. Lively discussions will be held on
topics that include steel drum reliability and cost competitiveness.
We are sure this conference will prove to be a very worldwide occasion.
