Samsun is a city with a population over half a million people on the north coast
of Turkey. It is the provincial capital of Samsun Province and a major Black Sea port.
The growing city has two universities, several hospitals, shopping malls, a lot of light
manufacturing industry, sports facilities and an opera.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk began the Turkish War of Independence here in 1919.

Ondokuz Mayıs University is a state university founded in 1975 in Samsun. The
university bears the name “19 May”, which marks the date when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,
founder of the Republic of Turkey, came to Samsun in order to start the War of
Independence.
With over 40.000 students and 2000 academic staff, Ondokuz Mayıs University is one
of the leading universities in Turkey in terms of staff quality and number, academic and
social facilities and infrastructure. Our university provides a pleasant and productive
environment for its students and staff regarding accommodation, transportation, sports
facilities, cultural and social environment.
Our university consists of 15 Faculties (Aeronautics and Space Sciences, Agriculture,

How to go to Dormitory?
Your dormitory is in the faculty of Fine Arts (Güzel Sanatlar Kampüsü).W hen you arrive to Samsun
Çarşamba Airport,you can take bus or taxı. Distance between airport and dormitory 40-45
km,because of that bus is cheaper than taxı. İts name is BAFAŞ. You can take it and come to güzel
Sanatlar fakültesi. You need the pay for bus 5 Turkısh Lira) This buses also goes to City Center and
Atakum.
TRANSPORTATION IN CITY (FOR CITY CENTER-ATAKUM-UNIVERSITY)
You can use Trams, Public buses, minibuses named Dolmuş in the city.
If you want to use bus or minibus,you can take near the dormitory. (your dormitory in near the way
in faculty of arts). All the buses are in Samsun have numbers. (12,17,24,E1,..ect. )
There are two type of minibuses in Samsun. First minibus name is ÜNİVERSİTE, You can go to
University ,faculties , international relations office,university hospital with that. (price; 2,50 TL for
students)
Second type of minibus name is Atakum-Türkiş. You can read that names on the, minibuses before
the take. You can use atakum-türkiş for the go a lot of pubs,restaurants,city centre,..ect. ) (2,50 TL for
students)
Most of the people use Trams. To use tram, you need a kind of card (SAMKART) .You charge this card
in some specific tram stations and use it . If you want to have this card you need to apply for it. You
can ask your buddy or us for information about it.
MARKETS AND GROCERS
There are a lot of markets and grocers in Atakum-Samsun but one of them nearby your
dormitory. it is in front of the güzel sanatlar kampüsü tram station. (There is no alcohol
in this market and please don't forget it you can't buy alcohol in markets and grocers
after the 10.00 pm,it is forbidden in Turkey).
Cheaper markets are A101, ŞOK , BİM. Prices are not expensive in these markets.
Other markets are Migros, Carrefour, etc. Prices may be expensive but you can find
much more things in these markets.
RESTAURANTS
You can find restaurants in Atakum-Denizevleri (there is not-far away from your
dormitory,5 min. by minibus,20 min. by walking ). There are a lot of kind food in this
restaurants and you will absolutely like Turkısh foods . if you want special foods,you can
ask your buddy or us for it.
Bizim Köfteci
Bizim Köfteci has really delicious chicken and meatball barbeku. You will like it.

In Atakum-Denizevleri,you will find lots of pubs and all of that close the each other.
The pubs closed 02.00 am.
Garage Pub
This pub is the nearest pub to your dormitory and also nice place for drink and enjoy
with your friends.

Unfortunately this club is the only one in Atakum and you have no other option. But you
can have nice parties with your friends in Lucca Club.

Liverpool Pub is right next to Garage pub. Also nice place drink and chat with your
friends.

HOSPİTALS
İf you need the hospital, our advise is university hospital but of course it is not only
one option. You can use other private hospitals but ıt can be a little bit expensive ;
.Medical Park,Gato Hospital in Samsun-Atakum. Also there are many private hospital in
city center.
CASH MACHİNES-ATM
There are 3 atm near your dormitory,if you need use others,please ask your buddy or
us.
You can exchange your Money in the Ziraat Bank in main campus or any exchange point
or bank in the city center , your buddy will help you about this

Insurance ( Incoming Students)
According to the new regulation in Turkey, international students
studying at Turkish universities have to get a General Health
Insurance. According to this law, international students, who will
start their studies at a Turkish university, are entitled to have
General Health Insurance that enable them to benefit health
insurance while in Turkey .
