PORTLAND’S HOTEL LUCIA CELEBRATES PHOTOGRAPHY WITH STYLE
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland’s Hotel Lucia has been lauded by international media and travelers alike as the
most artistic hotel in a city famed for pushing the boundaries of creativity and style. Centrally located
downtown with all 127 guest rooms freshly renovated in January 2013 Hotel Lucia, like Portland itself, is
smart and cosmopolitan yet casual and comfortable.
Debuting a new lobby and renovated public spaces in December 2015, Hotel Lucia embraces the needs
and desires of modern day travelers with an eye towards creating a sense of community and spaces for
socializing, working, relaxing and interaction. With new seating areas facing the guest reception desks and
nestled in the center of the lobby, the renovation has doubled the amount of seating options and
introduced a rich, jewel-toned palate featuring furniture and lighting elements that call to mind various
eras of the hotel’s history. As one moves deeper into the lobby, the new design offers progressively more
intimate, sumptuous options for conversation and connection.
Hotel Lucia is home to the world’s largest permanent collection of black and white photographs by Pulitzer
prize-winning photographer and Portland native David Hume Kennerly. With his resume of high-profile
commissions from Newsweek Magazine, LIFE Magazine, NBC and Time Magazine and an appointment as
President Gerald R. Ford’s personal photographer, Kennerly is one of the nation’s most accomplished
photographers and Hotel Lucia is honored to showcase his lifetime’s work. In addition to his photography,
the hotel boasts dozens of works by regional and national artists in the lobby and meeting rooms.
Hotel Lucia’s 127 guestrooms are exquisitely appointed with custom made rosewood furniture, top of
the line Simmons Black Label Napa mattresses and a guest room technology package designed to make
being connected at Hotel Lucia fast, easy and intuitive. Each guestroom phone has a “Get It Now”
button that puts anything guests want literally at their fingertips and all rooms boast a Pillow Menu,
Spiritual Menu and iPod Menu so guests can customize their stay. Forgot your iPod? Borrow one from
Hotel Lucia. Buddhist? Taoist? Scientologist? Hotel Lucia has your book of faith.
One of Portland’s most acclaimed chefs, winner of the James Beard Award and TV’s Iron Chef, Vitaly
Paley, opened Imperial at Hotel Lucia in September 2012. Here, he and Executive Chef Doug Adams
explore heritage cooking methods using ingredients from Portland’s diverse bounty. Inspired by
campfires and the big open spaces of the Pacific Northwest, Imperial is open for breakfast, lunch and
dinner daily and provides 24-hour room service for hotel guests.
Like Imperial, Portland Penny Diner is also led by Chef Vitaly Paley. Named after the coin that Frances
Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy used to decide Portland’s name in 1845, Portland Penny Diner investigates
the intersection of Pacific Northwest immigrant food cultures and the Native Americans’ pure approach
to food. Located just off the lobby, the counter service diner features relaxed seating and grab-and-go
options, including handcrafted sandwiches and milkshakes.

HOTEL LUCIA INVITES GUESTS TO SIP LOCAL BREWS ON THE HOUSE IN NEWLY RENOVATED LOBBY
Portland hotel launches free daily craft beer hour highlighting local brews.
December 8, 2015 – Portland, Ore. – With more local breweries than any other city in the world—over
80, at last count—Portland was once again voted the nation’s #1 city for craft beer by the readers of
Travel + Leisure in 2015. In celebration of the city’s beer bounty, Hotel Lucia, the city’s recentlyrenovated home away from home for the creatively inclined, is inviting guests to relax and sip a handcrafted cold one during a daily complimentary craft beer hour in the hotel’s new art-filled lobby.
Hotel Lucia is pouring pints of the region’s most compelling craft beers for thirsty hotel guests every
evening from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tap selections change regularly to showcase the wide selection of styles
and range of breweries that have made Portland a destination for craft beer lovers from around the
world. Guests simply need to show their hotel keycard and valid photo ID. Hotel Lucia staffers –
passionate Portland experts in their own right – are on hand during the hotel’s free daily craft beer hour
to offer recommendations and ensure guests have the insider scoop on what to do around town.
Unveiled in November 2015, Hotel Lucia’s new lobby is the final phase of a $5.5 million renovation that
began two years ago with the addition of Vitaly Paley’s restaurants, Imperial and Portland Penny Diner,
and continued with last year’s debut of all new guestrooms. The renovation doubled the amount of
lobby seating options and introduced an art-filled design aesthetic that encourages interaction and
fosters a sense of community in the space – making it the perfect setting for the hotel’s free daily craft
beer hour.

PORTLAND’S HOTEL LUCIA DEBUTS FINAL PHASE OF $5.5 MILLION RENOVATION
New lobby creates spaces for connection and socialization;
upgraded meeting rooms embrace building’s heritage and hotel’s art collection.
December 2, 2015 – PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland’s Hotel Lucia has completed construction on the final
phase of a $5.5 million renovation that began two years ago with the addition of Vitaly Paley’s
restaurants, Imperial and Portland Penny Diner, continued with last year’s debut of all new guestrooms
and is now finished following the renovation of the hotel’s lobby, meeting rooms and public areas.
Embracing the needs and desires of today’s travelers, these spaces have been transformed by Portland's
Staicoff Design Company with an eye toward creating a sense of community and spaces for socializing,
working, relaxing and interaction.
The journey through the new lobby begins at the entrance where a stone and brass floor inlay of the
hotel’s new logo and new vestibule have been installed with two sets of double doors in glass and black
steel that serve to graciously welcome guests and insulate them from the weather. Hardwood floors like
those found in Imperial have been installed throughout the lobby with metallic accents that echo the
warmth of the rosewood furniture upstairs in the guestrooms. Dual reception desks made of white
Calacatta marble and antique mirror are ensconced in an alcove clad in glowing brass and backed by a
layered wall treatment made of woven wire mesh and bent brass and aluminum elements. Eliminating
the traditional front desk and removing the separation between staff and guests, the new design
encourages interaction and fosters a sense of community in the space.
With new seating areas facing the guest reception desks and nestled in the center of the lobby, the
renovation has doubled the amount of seating options and introduced a rich, jewel-toned palate
featuring furniture and lighting elements that call to mind various eras of the hotel’s history. As one
moves deeper into the lobby, the new design offers progressively more intimate, sumptuous options for
conversation and connection.
The lobby features an extensive collection of regional art including JD Perkin’s ceramic figure Untitled
#5; Robert Colescott’s 1989 lithograph Lock and Key II; Shadows and Whispers #2 by Jay Backstrand;
Bathers in Milford #2 by Lester Johnson; Crous and Uranus and Gaea #3 by Michael Spafford; and
Repented Admonitions by Fay Jones. The space is anchored by a wall of prints by David Hume Kennerly,
a native Oregonian and Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist who has documented prominent,
powerful and poignant personalities around the globe. With prints in every guestroom and artfully hung
in the corridors upstairs, Hotel Lucia has always been home to the world’s largest collection of black and
white photography by Kennerly. The lobby art display includes iconic images of Hugh Hefner with a bevy
of bunnies, Nixon boarding the presidential helicopter on his last day in office, and Leonid Brezhnev, the
General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
On the north side of the lobby, near the entrance to Portland Penny Diner and the guestroom elevators,
a fireplace warms a space with gracious windows looking out onto the hustle and bustle of Portland.
Here, guests can perch on stools and plug in to work at a window-facing counter equipped with iPad and
Surface tablets or relax in lounge chairs upholstered in hues of and amethyst.
Hotel Lucia’s largest and most-in-demand meeting space, a gracious 1,160 sq. ft. room located on the
main level off the lobby, has been rechristened Pettygrove in a nod to Imperial and Portland Penny
Diner’s focus on local history. In a twist of fate, history dictated the final look of the room as well. During
construction, as walls were opened in the space, original iron beams were exposed that retained
painted markings from previous renovations calling out the former name of the hotel: Imperial Hotel. It
is a name that Vitaly Paley reinstated when he opened his award-winning Imperial restaurant at Hotel
Lucia so it was only fitting to keep these beams in the final design of the space. They are complimented
by hardwood floors, subtly patterned wall paper, new lighting and a new projector screen as well as the
addition of new electric and HDMI ports around the room for power and connection.
Downstairs, additional seating creates inviting breakout spaces and new finishes and art in the 870 sq.
ft. Lovejoy and 472 sq. ft. Quimby rooms complete the transformation of the meeting space. The
carpets, walls and fixtures have been updated and the rooms have received new electric and HDMI
ports and new large screen televisions for presentations. The walls of these two rooms are now adorned
with large photographic prints ranging from historic black and white photos – for example a woman
cooking in a 1902 kitchen or fashion models in the Grand Trianon at the Palace of Versailles in 1952 – to
surreal full color images that include an amusement park ride nestled amid the sands of Death Valley
National Park and a girl in a pink bikini perched atop a three story diving board.
Hotel Lucia’s fitness center has also been upgraded with new Technogym workout equipment that
features not only cable television on each machine but internet access and Bluetooth connectivity, too.
Also in the works and slated to be installed by year’s end are a video window near the lobby entrance
with a live feed into the Imperial dining room and an installation of vintage cameras above the fireplace
by the guestroom elevator landing.

HOTEL LUCIA UNVEILS $2.3 MILLION GUEST ROOM RENOVATION
Enhancements bring latest technology and a rich new look and feel to Portland hotel.
January 31, 2014 - PORTLAND, OR – Bashar Wali, President of Provenance Hotels, announced today the
completion of a major renovation of the guest room floors at Hotel Lucia in Portland. The project, at a
price of more than $2.3 million, brings a brand new look and feel to the guest room corridors and 127
sleeping rooms with new furniture, lighting, drapery, and carpet in every room. It also includes a guest
room technology package designed to make being connected at Hotel Lucia fast, easy and intuitive.
"Coming on the heels of Hotel Lucia’s recent collaboration with Intel Labs to create an interactive social
media installation in the lobby, this room renovation continues our creative reimagining of the nexus of
technology and design," said Wali. “In these new rooms, guests will find not just refreshed style but
serious substance – from faster connectivity to more functional furnishings – that will make their stay at
Hotel Lucia an even more restful and inspiring experience.”
In Hotel Lucia’s guest rooms, the feeling of luxury and spaciousness has been enhanced with artfully
scaled, custom designed furniture made of rosewood. A timber prized for its rich hues and dramatic
grain, rosewood is typically employed in the production of small handcrafted items like guitars. At Hotel
Lucia, it was used to create sleek, modern bed frames with integrated headboards and nightstands.
Spanning the entire wall behind each bed, these functional yet dramatic elements are topped with
Starphire glass in a milky mint hue. New rosewood dressers feature the same glass on the drawer fronts
and side tables and desks made of rosewood are topped with it as well. This new furniture provides a
warm visual pop against freshly painted white walls, textured wall treatments in a cool, grey tweed
pattern and plush midnight blue carpet featuring a wavy, organic grey grid pattern.
Hotel Lucia’s new guest room design creates a tranquil, restful space where travelers can sleep soundly
on new top of the line Simmons Black Label Napa mattresses and 100% Egyptian cotton bedding made
in Italy by Mascioni Linen. Custom made lighting includes ceiling mount fixtures, dramatic adjustable
hinged floor lamps with opaque glass globes, and dimmable three way side table lamps with silver and
gold striated bases. On the windows, chocolate sheers offer privacy and provide a rich counterpoint to
bold citrine graphic print drapery. This inviting golden hue reappears in the form of sleek ottomans that
pair beautifully with deep orange pillows on the bed. Orange pillows are also used to accent warm, slate
grey velvet reading chairs in all rooms and cool fog grey upholstered sofas in the junior suites.
Tech savvy travelers will find Hotel Lucia’s new guestrooms more convenient for work and play. The
entire hotel has been upgraded with a fiber optic network that, rather than copper wire, uses is glass
strands to transmit data at the speed of light, resulting in download speeds of up to 100 MB per second.
In addition to blazing fast internet service, every room now boasts a desk equipped with Teleadapt
charging ports featuring USB, tablet and standard outlets to keep guests powered. USB connections and
electrical outlets can also be found in the bases of all bedside table lamps and rooms boast I-Home
Bluetooth clock radios capable of charging and playing iOS enabled smart phones. New wall mounted
40”and 44” Samsung HD TV Performance Line televisions with Comcast HD service make enjoying inroom entertainment an immersive experience.
Updating the guest room floors is the first phase of a full renovation of Hotel Lucia that is slated to be
completed in 2014. Phase two will include renovation of the lobby, meeting rooms and all public space.

HONEYBEES CHECK INTO PORTLAND’S HOTEL LUCIA, HOTEL DELUXE AND SENTINEL
Bee Local hives installed on hotel roofs, sustainable local honey for sale in-room.
April 2, 2014 – Portland, Ore. – Provenance Hotels is proud to announce a partnership with Bee Local
that will bring local artisan honey, a uniquely Portland culinary experience, to guests of the company’s
three properties in the city – Hotel Lucia, Hotel deluxe and Sentinel – and help ensure its sustainability
for years to come. This month, the hyper-local Portland honey producer will install beehives on the roofs
of Hotel Lucia, Hotel deLuxe and Sentinel and make its honey available in honor bars at all three
downtown hotels. When the hotel hives are harvested, the honey they produce will be featured on the
menus at Imperial at Hotel Lucia and the Driftwood Room and Gracie’s at Hotel deLuxe.
Bee Local has been featured in culinary and cocktail creations at James Beard Award-winning Chef Vitaly
Paley’s Imperial and Portland Penny Diner since the restaurants opened at Hotel Lucia in fall 2012 and
he initiated the collaboration between restaurant, hotel and honey maker. Putting the beehives on the
roof was a longtime dream for Paley, who is famed as an instigator of creative collaboration in the
Portland culinary scene, and a natural match for Provenance Hotels, a company known for creative
partnerships with producers like Portland’s Salt & Straw ice cream and Smith Teamaker that highlight
local artisans and bring their products to hotel guests.
“We are so pleased Vitaly brought us together with Bee Local Honey,” said Bashar Wali, President of
Provenance Hotels. “We are passionate about supporting local companies and offering visitors
authentic, unique experiences. Nothing could exemplify that better than knowing some of the honey
our guests enjoy at our hotels was made on site.”
In addition to being local, the hives at Hotel Lucia, Hotel deluxe and Sentinel are profoundly sustainable.
There has been a dramatic drop in the honeybee population in the United State in the past six years,
with almost 10 million hives wiped because of colony collapse syndrome. The ailment is caused by risk
factors common to large beekeeping operations, so fostering small colonies of urban bees, like those
that Bee Local manages, aids in the recovery of the overall bee population.
“Commercially farmed bees typically pollinate a field of just one crop, and the honey is a byproduct. A
diverse urban foraging diet is beneficial for bees and results in healthier hives and honey with nuanced
flavors that reflect the ecology of the local area,” explained Damian Magista, Bee Local’s founder.
“The bees that live at the hotels will only visit plants within a small radius of the hive, so when you taste
the honey, you will truly be getting a taste of the neighborhood,” Chef Paley added.
At Imperial, Bee Local is prominently featured in the ever-popular fried rabbit dish and Harlequin
cocktail. In celebration of the bees’ arrival at Hotel Lucia, Chef Paley will also make a special honeyinspired four course menu available April 25-27, 2014. Bee Local Honey is also highlighted on the new
spring menu in the Local Honey cocktail at Hotel deLuxe’s Driftwood Room.
For hotel guests who want to take the Bee Local experience home, it will also be available for in small,
airline-friendly jars in the honor bars at Hotel Lucia, Hotel deluxe and Sentinel for $6. Honey lovers can
also buy larger jars in Paley’s Portland Penny Diner at Hotel Lucia.
More information about the honey and hives at the hotels can be found online at
www.hotellucia.com/honey, www.hoteldeluxe.com/honey and www.sentinelhotel.com/honey.

PROVENANCE HOTELS’ NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION: FREE WI-FI IN 2015
Art-filled lifestyle hotels in Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, Nashville and New Orleans will
Eliminate Wi-Fi Fees for Overnight Guests on January 1, 2015.
Portland, Ore., Dec. 29, 2014 – With the New Year just around the corner, Provenance Hotels
has resolved to make working remotely and keeping in touch even easier – and less expensive –
in 2015 by eliminating Wi-Fi fees for overnight guests at Hotel Max in Seattle, Hotel Murano in
Tacoma, Portland’s Hotel Lucia, Hotel deLuxe and Sentinel, and Hotel Preston in Nashville.
Over the course of the past year, Provenance Hotels has invested hundreds of thousands of
dollars in upgrading the Wi-Fi experience at the company’s hotels with fiber optic internet to
increase bandwidth, speed and capacity. On January 1, 2015, the company will cease charging
for Wi-Fi at all its hotels so interfacing with the office and surfing the web from the comfort of a
Provenance Hotels guest room will not only be fast and efficient – it will be free, too.
“Internet access is an essential amenity and we’ve long been focused on providing the fastest,
most reliable service available to our guests,” said Bashar Wali, President of Provenance Hotels.
“Making it available free of charge is the natural next step in our commitment to keeping
travelers who stay at our hotels connected.”
Seattle’s Hotel 1000, which already provides guests with free Wi-Fi, joined the Provenance
Hotels family in July 2014. Wi-Fi will also be free at the company’s Old No. 77 Hotel &
Chandlery, which is slated to open in the heart of New Orleans’ Arts District in spring 2015.

PROVENANCE HOTELS REV UP GREEN TRAVEL WITH ZIPCAR AND TESLA
Guests in Portland, Seattle and Tacoma save on car sharing and charge electric cars for free.
November 11, 2014 – Portland, Ore. – Provenance Hotels, with six locations in Washington and Oregon,
is raising the bar on sustainable travel by partnering with the experts in car sharing services and electric
vehicle technology – Zipcar and Tesla Motors – to make it even easier and more affordable for guests to
use alternative transportation when visiting the eco-conscious cities of Portland, Seattle and Tacoma.
Provenance Hotels’ art-filled hotels are conveniently located downtown within steps of each city’s light
rail routes, making them the perfect getaways for those who want to go car free. When guests who are
Zipcar members need or want to venture further, Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, is a
cost-effective and sustainable membership based option for exploring with plenty of vehicles
conveniently parked close to hotels. To incentivize guests to try car sharing by becoming new Zipcar
members, Zipcar and Provenance Hotels have partnered to offer $50 in free driving credit when
travelers sign up for Zipcar’s Occasional Driving Plan or a Monthly Rate Plan of $6/month. Guests who
are already Zipcar members can enjoy $15 in free driving. For more information please visit,
www.zipcar.com/provenancehotels.
Two new Zipcars – a BMW X1 and a Cadillac ATS – have checked in at Hotel deLuxe. Parked in the hotel’s
lot, they are available for Zipcar members to use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Reservations can be
made easily and quickly via the Zipcar app on members’ smartphones, online or by phone. Zipcar
discounts for guests of Provenance Hotels can be accessed through the hotels’ websites and links
included in guest reservation confirmations. Guests signing up for Zipcar must apply online for
membership prior to their stay and have their Zipcard on hand for their reservation.
For those who prefer to bring along their own eco-friendly electric vehicles, Provenance Hotels has
partnered with Tesla, the world leader in electric vehicle technology, to install two Tesla high power
connectors and one standard electric vehicle charger in each of the parking garages at Hotel Max in
Seattle, Hotel Murano in Tacoma and Hotel deLuxe in Portland. These EV and Tesla charging stations are
available to both hotel guests and for public use with no extra charge beyond standard parking fees.
Tesla owners can easily locate these chargers using the Tesla navigation app on their smartphone phone
or in-car display. Tesla charging stations will also be added to Hotel 1000 in Seattle in the near future.

TRAVELERS FIND THEIR KURE – FRESH PRESSED AND HAND-DELIVERED – AT HOTEL LUCIA
Portland hotel delivering healthy, fresh pressed juice to guests’ rooms.
February 3, 2014 – PORTLAND, Ore. – In Portland, a city famed for its coffee obsession, fresh pressed
juice is quickly becoming another must-have kick start to the morning. With the nutrition-packed trend
sweeping the nation and in demand among health-minded travelers, Hotel Lucia is proud to announce it
is partnering with Portland’s wildly popular Kure Juice Bar to become the first hotel in the city to handdeliver fresh pressed juice to guests in the comfort of their rooms.
Beginning today, guests at Hotel Lucia will be able to call the hotel’s front desk and schedule their
morning juice delivery. When an order is placed, Kure will press the juice and whisk it to the hotel for inroom delivery at the guest’s preferred time between 7 a.m. and noon. Kure flavors available at Hotel
Lucia are priced at $11 for a 16 oz. bottle and include Staycation (kale, cilantro, apple and pineapple),
Greens #3 (lemon, ginger, apple, kale, parsley, celery and cucumber), Love Potion (lime, ginger,
strawberry, orange and apple) and PDXstasy (cashews, maple syrup, cinnamon, Stumptown Cold Brew
coffee and water).
Kure’s juices are crafted with care in Portland. The community’s extraordinary reception of the company
has led to four Portland locations opening since the brand’s launch in 2011, with more in the pipeline for
spring 2014. “We’re just trying to make the world a better place one drink at a time, that’s what we do,”
said Kure Juice Bar co-founder Nate Higgins. “And that is why we are so excited to partner with Hotel
Lucia and help visitors to our hometown start their day in Portland right.”
“We are obsessed about finding fun ways to work with like-minded homegrown brands and couldn’t be
more delighted to have Kure as a creative co-conspirator,” said Bashar Wali, President of Provenance
Hotels. “Like our collaboration with Salt & Straw to deliver handcrafted ice cream to our guest rooms
and our partnership with Intel Labs to create an interactive social media installation in the lobby, this
puts another only-in-Portland experience right at our guests’ fingertips.”
