Eu Yan Sang case study
Case study - Eu Yan Sang.
Global collaboration gets stunning
audio quality at far less cost.
Hendri Yu of Eu Yan Sang had a problem with
clarity. In fact, executives at the traditional Chinese
healthcare retailer’s worldwide locations had
trouble understanding each other. The quality and
reliability of an existing conferencing solution was
poor. Management was frustrated by time wasted
connecting to meetings and concerned about the
potential for misunderstanding.
Now, with BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice, Eu Yan
Sang gets stunning audio quality. Not only that but
it’s saving up to 50 per cent on conferencing charges
by avoiding PSTN costs. For Hendri that’s got all the
hallmarks of a classic Chinese remedy.
We used to have a lot of quality issues,
especially when calling from Hong Kong and
China. We paid an expensive price but got a
bad service.

BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice gives
Eu Yan Sang a conferencing platform
to accelerate its expansion.
Close collaboration is a vital factor in
business strategy.
Eu Yan Sang International is a pan-regional retailer of
traditional Chinese herbal remedies. With around 300 outlets
in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and the US, it has
aggressive expansion plans. They require close collaboration
between its headquarters and regional offices.
Management relies heavily on audio and video conferencing.
Hendri Yu, information technology executive, says: “It’s very
important. Management has lots of meetings. Conferences run a
few times every day. So we need a good conferencing system.”
That wasn’t the case with the service the company had in
2015, however. Eu Yan Sang was using an audio conference
service from a major Asian service provider. “We used to have
a lot of quality issues, especially when calling from Hong
Kong and China,” Hendri adds. “We paid an expensive price
but got a bad service.” This was affecting productivity, with
people wasting time re-dialling into conferences.
Great voice quality with proactive
local support.
Eu Yan Sang was already using BT for disaster recovery,
replicating data on cloud servers, and the account team
suggested trying BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice.
As the only conferencing system on the market that
enables users to experience stunning audio quality free
from background noise, BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice
revolutionises the way people communicate and collaborate.

Participants appear to be speaking from distinct virtual
locations so it’s easy to identify who’s talking and hear
everyone on the call – even those with soft voices.
Conversation flows more naturally and everyone contributes
more effectively.
BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice can be accessed anywhere – via
the desktop, in a meeting room and from smartphones. Eu
Yan Sang took a test account to try it out. BT has a presence
in all territories, so local support wasn’t a problem.
Eu Yan Sang management mostly attend audio conferences
using integrated earphone-and-microphone headsets.
Previously, they’d failed to work well with multiple audio
conference participants. Hendri explains: “When we tried it
with BT we found the voice quality was still great even when
we daisy-chained a lot of devices.”
Significant savings on conferencing costs.
Because the BT service is delivered over the web, Eu Yan Sang
discovered an additional benefit. “BT MeetMe with Dolby
Voice is saving us up to 50 per cent on conferencing charges
by avoiding PSTN costs, which can account for 75 per cent of
total fees,” Hendri confirms. Thus Eu Yan Sang makes a big
saving compared to the significant monthly amount it was
paying for its previous service.
The company has given BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice accounts
to the finance, IT and legal departments. BT training is
helping Eu Yan Sang achieve those savings with staff getting
used to audio conferences via their desktops or smartphones.
Hendri says: “On management calls or training events, the
Dolby Voice quality is truly excellent. That and cost savings
were the most important reasons why we chose BT.”

More flexibility with a positive impact
on productivity.
Eu Yan Sang has also seen a rise in productivity. Managers
have more flexibility because there’s no longer a need to
find a quiet place to make the call. Hendri says: “People can
do conferences any time. Mobile users can dial in from their
smartphones or via Wi-Fi from their laptops. It’s convenient,
fast and easy to use.”
One particularly handy time-saving feature is an app that
allows participants to join conferences instantly by keying
in a PIN. Hendri explains: “Our previous service would often
complain that you’d dialled in the wrong PIN, even when we’d
tested everything before starting the meeting. That never
happens with BT.”
Eu Yan Sang is planning to add more BT MeetMe with Dolby
Voice accounts so more people can take advantage of the
quality and cost effectiveness. And, although the focus is on
audio right now, it would be simple for Eu Yan Sang to use the
service with Cisco WebEx and Collaboration Meeting Rooms.
