Do you enjoy riding horses? Have you wanted to explore on horseback but haven’t had the opportunity? You are now holding your ticket to a grand tour of Florida’s State Forests. See page 20 for a complete list of trails! The Florida State Forests Trailtrotter Program SADDLE UP... The best way to learn about a state forest is to experience it first hand, and this is what the Florida State Forests Trailtrotter Program is all about. Here’s what you need to do: Ride a total of 8 trails in a minimum of 4 state forests, selecting trails from page 20 or visiting the Trailtrotter’s Trail List (http:// www.fl-dof.com/Recreation/Trailtrotter/ trail_list.html). At the trailhead of each trail that you ride, obtain one pre-paid postal survey card. Fill in the card and put it in the mail after you complete the ride. Record your progress in the Trailtrotter’s Log which can be viewed and printed from http:// www.fl-dof.com/Recreation/Trailtrotter/ log.html. As you send in your postal survey cards, we will send you a sticker for each one. You will affix the sticker next to the entry for each trail you ride. When you have ridden and logged your 8 trails, complete the Trailtrotter’s Log and mail it to us. We will send you a beautiful patch that you can sew on a shirt, vest or jacket. In addition, you’ll receive a certificate commemorating your achievement signed by Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson. A supplemental handout is available at trailhead kiosks that provides directions to all of the state forests involved in the Trailtrotter Program. 239-403-3784 [email protected] RIDE ON... There’s more to this program than one patch and one certificate. Much more. There are two additional levels to this program. The same brochure can be used for all three. Once you have completed the first level, just pick up another one of these brochures and start on the next level. Trailsaddler: If you ride 16 trails from the Trail List, you will achieve the next level: Trailsaddler. For your accomplishment, you will receive a new patch and certificate. Trailwrangler: If you ride 24 trails from the Trail List, you will achieve the third and final level: Trailwrangler. For this accomplishment, you will receive one last patch and certificate. When put together, the three patches form one interlocking pattern. But remember: you must complete all three levels of the program to obtain the completed design. REAP THE BENEFITS... The benefits are many when you participate in the Florida State Forests Trailtrotter Program. You can improve your riding skills at your own rate without the pressure of competition. Your only competitor is yourself. Also, you get to experience the beauty of Florida’s state forests. The opportunity to have personal experience with nature is rare these days, and this program will give you that opportunity. Finally, you will feel the pride of accomplishment. So find the nearest state forest on the Trail List (http://www.fl-dof.com/Recreation/Trailtrotter/ trail_list.html) and get started. We offer rides on over 100 miles of trails through the Everglades. Our rides are private that include walking jogging and loping for the more experienced riders. These are guided rides made by appointment. The cost of our rides are $30.00 per horse, with the ride being 1 hour in length. Private rides (1 person) are $50.00 for 1 hour in duration. They are offered from dusk to dawn Monday through Saturday. Lessons Come learn from the best. Joyce Holland has over 25 years experience in western riding instruction. We offer riding lessons to interested parties from the age of four on up. The oldest person to take instructions was a man of 74 who took lessons for three winters. The cost of our lessons are $50.00 per hour. Special Groups We have many different groups that take advantage of our facilities. Church groups enjoy the use of our picnic area after hay rides; girl scout troops use our expertise for their merit badges, and schools bring their children out to learn about horses. $100 per hour. Birthday Parties Our birthday parties are approximately two hours in length, with one hour on the horse and one hour in our picnic area. The cost is $250.00 with $100 deposit included in the price. You are the greatest horse anyone could ever hope for. You will live in our hearts forever.! My Friend Susan and I had to say good-bye to our Hannah a couple of weeks ago. We are grateful to veterinarians and staff at Surgicare in Brandon for doing their very best to save her. They treated her with love and care. Every time I spoke with a staff member, they made me feel loved as well. When I knew we would have to let her go, I wanted to ask for a lock of her hair, but I could not get the words out for all the pain I was feeling. After Hannah had gone home to be with the lord, they called me and said they were mailing her things to me, including the hair from her tail and a brochure about a company called Pony Locks. Pony Locks preserves locks of hair in beautiful pieces of jewelry. I was so touched by the gesture of the Surgicare and the concept of Pony Locks, that I wanted to share it with our readers. ---Jennifer Orfely Page 14 Everything Equine December 2004 [email protected] 239-403-3784 PET GROOMING AND SITTING 12226 Palm Beach Blvd Ft Myers, FL 33905 239-227-PAWS (7297) 10% OFF FIRST VISIT With this ad No job too hairy, no dog too scary!
