good suggestions for safeguardi ng your home agai nst

Old-type locks make burglars smile;
cylinder locks make them scowl.
2. Betore gomg on an e xtended vacation, arrange for
your lawn to be cut and ask
neighbors to pick up all the
mail and circulars so your
house has a "live d in" look.
Stop de livery of milk and
newspapers since they are anothe r sure sign, if a llowed to
accumulate, that no one is
home.
3. Don't notify the society
editor of you r local newspaP:.

7. While t a 1 k i n g to a
strange caller at your door,
always stand in front of the
locking machanism. A fa vorite trick of burglars is to
e ngage a prospect in conve rsation while flicking the
puch buttons below the bolt
of a monise lock. The burglar, who plans to return late r,
hopes that the householder
will not notice that the door
is unlocke d.

In many cases police can
track down a burglar i f this
is done, as pawnshops and

10. Normally, reside ntial
exterior doors should be hung

If for any reason it's necessary
to have such a door open out
with hinges on the outside,
make certai n that they a re of
a type specially constructed
so that the pins cannot be removed by a burglar.
Follow these t ips and you
can make sure that you will
NOT be among the hundreds
of thousands of homeowners
who are vi cti mized by burgl ars to the tune of $200 million a year.
