Gambo Racing Day
in Neath Port Talbot WWW.NPT.GOV.UK/PLAY NEWSLETTER Issue 11 - Summer 2008 Events Gambo Racing Day On 10th May 2008 Play Works organised a Gambo racing day in Resolven. For those who don't know, a Gambo is a home made Go Kart made from anything you can find! On the day 14 Gambo's turned up to race each other to the finish. We had so many entries we had to split the race into categories of under 8's, 8 to 12, 12 to 18 and adult. We then raced in the categories and gave prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each race. Everyone had fun and when it came to the adult race we had 8 more entries than we had first thought. Thank you to all who took part, we hope to make this an annual event so keep a look out for next year's race. Outdoor adventurous play is an important part of childhood. Your daughter can still have these experiences, allow her time to play in the garden where you can keep an eye on her, give her things like scraps of material and pieces of rope and show her what you used to play. If you are short of space, a field or a local country park will do and don't forget that dens can also be built inside! Look out for our Summer Playschemes which are running in outdoor locations throughout Neath Port Talbot, here your daughter will have the opportunity to build dens and make mud pies whilst being supervised by playworkers. Teaching your daughter about safety issues will help to keep her safe, show her how to cross the main road and talk to her about how to assess strangers etc. I hope this helps!! Where do you play?
