ADULT FICTION SUGGESTIONS
Gutenberg’s Apprentice by Alix Christie
This literary debut visits one of the most momentous times
in history—the birth of the printing press in 15th-century
medieval Germany. Trained scribe Peter Schoeffer reluctantly
becomes an apprentice in Johann Gutenberg’s workshop at
the behest of his adopted father, merchant Johann Fust. The
three men’s tenuous partnership results in the Gutenberg
Bible, which is printed despite tensions in the workshop
and pressure from the Church. History buffs will enjoy this
extensively researched novel.
The Monogram Murders: The New Hercule
Poirot Mystery by Sophie Hannah
Agatha Christie fans, rejoice! A new Hercule Poirot mystery,
the first ever sanctioned by the Christie estate, has been
penned by suspense novelist Sophie Hannah. According
to Publishers Weekly’s starred review, Hannah has done a
superb job channeling the Queen of Crime: “The rest of the
novel lives up to the promise of the opening, complete with
dazzling deductions, subtle cluing, false endings, and superb
prose.’’ The Belgian detective’s latest adventure will be a hit
for lovers of the classic whodunit.
Florence Gordon by Brian Morton
At 75, the cantankerous and brilliant Florence Gordon
is looking forward to writing her memoir about life as a
feminist icon. But when her son Daniel returns to New York
with his wife and daughter, the sharp-tongued Florence
becomes entangled in their calamities, shattering her peaceful
retirement. With unforgettable characters and sizzling
dialogue, Morton has penned an entertaining story about the
heartache and humor of touchy family dynamics.
