EVENT CHAIR MESSAGE
Brenda Lorenzi
Lorenzi
Inland Empire Magazine
I am honored to return as the event chair for the American Cancer Society Give Cancer the Boot gala,
taking place on September 6, 2014, at the Riverside Rancheros Equestrian Center. Featuring a unique
venue and theme, along with a silent and live auction, great entertainment, delectable dinner, and
country western dancing, this festive event is not one to be missed. Our goal is to”give cancer the boot,”
and get closer to a world free of this dreaded disease.
If you are like most Americans, cancer has touched your life or the life of someone you know and love.
Cancer claims the lives of almost 1,600 people every day in the United States. Despite this statistic, we
know cancer can be overcome and that nearly 14 million survivors are alive today because of the work of
the American Cancer Society. They help people get well and stay well, find cures, and fight back against
the disease.
I invite you to join the fight against cancer by supporting our efforts as sponsors, underwriters, and
distinguished guests. In this packet, you will find an outline of the various opportunities and amenities
provided for all levels of sponsorship. The funds raised during this gala help support the American
Cancer Society‘s many free programs and services, which help local cancer patients and their families
with information, day-to-day help, and emotional support. Many of the cancer breakthroughs that we
benefit from today like the breast cancer drugs Herceptin and Tamoxifen were discovered by Societyfunded researchers. No single organization does more to fight the disease than the American Cancer
Society.
The Society has been working to eliminate cancer as a major health problem for more than 100 years.
However, there is still so much work to be done, and we need your help. In 2013, an estimated 14,690
people in Riverside and San Bernardino counties will hear the words, “You have cancer.”
The Give Cancer the Boot gala is a way to fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in our
community. Please join me on September 6, and help us fight for more birthdays. Together, we can
make a difference!
Sincerely,
Brenda Lorenzi

Your Support Makes a Difference
The American Cancer Society saves lives, and creates a world with more
birthdays. We:
• Help people stay well by educating them on ways to prevent cancer or detect it early, when
it's most treatable
• Help people get well by providing information, day-to-day help, and emotional support, 24
hours a day, seven days a week
• Find cures by supporting the best ideas of the brightest cancer researchers-47 of whom have
won the Nobel Prize
• Fight back by working with legislators to pass laws to defeat cancer and rallying communities
around the globe to join our fight
As the nation's largest nongovernmental cancer research funder, we
have invested more than $4 billion in the fight against cancer since
1946.
Nearly 14 million cancer survivors and countless others who have
avoided the disease are celebrating birthdays this year because of the
progress we've made.
Around the Clock Help
In 2013, more than 14,690 Riverside and San Bernardino county residents will hear the words,
“you have cancer.” The Society can help guide them through every step of their cancer journeys
with information and free programs and services.
The Society offers the nation's only 24-hour call center. Whether it's 2 p.m. or 2 a.m., your call
will be answered. Patients, their families, and caregivers can access information and help 24
hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-800-227-2345 or visiting us online at cancer.org.
Day-to-day Help
Road to Recovery®
Through the American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program,
volunteer drivers provide free rides to cancer patients to and from their
lifesaving treatments.
Patient Lodging Program
Together, the American Cancer Society and area hotels provide free or
reduced-rate lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers who must
travel away from home for treatment.
Your Support Makes a Difference
Emotional Support:
Look Good Feel Better®
The Look Good Feel Better program is a free workshop that teaches
people how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer
treatment. Each participant receives a free kit of beauty products to use
during the session and take home. The program is offered as a
collaboration between the American Cancer Society, the Personal Care
Products Council Foundation, and the Professional Beauty Association.
Reach To Recovery®
The American Cancer Society Reach To Recovery program matches trained, volunteer breast
cancer survivors with those facing a breast cancer diagnosis. Our volunteers have been there,
and they provide one-on-one support in a way that only another person with breast cancer can.
Cancer Survivors Network
The Cancer Survivors Network program is an online community created by and for cancer
patients and caregivers to connect with one another, share experiences, and provide support.
Community Events:
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk
honors breast cancer survivors, educates people about breast cancer
prevention and early detection, and raises funds and awareness, so one
day no one will hear the words, "You have breast cancer."
Relay For Life
The Relay For Life movement is the Society's signature team event that
raises funds and awareness for our mission. At Relay For Life events,
communities celebrate survivors, remember those they've lost, and fight
back against a disease that has taken too much.
For more information on our community events, please call 951-300-1224.
