Westman’s research-based practice involves significant historical investigation into local sites once booming with industry or mining. Solid like Stone, Short like History depicts a large boulder of dolomite seemingly left on the side of the road in a community in the Northwest Territories. Westman has exhibited across Canada, including in the Art Gallery of Alberta and Access Gallery in Vancouver, and her Banff Centre exhibition, Rose, Dear, was chosen by Canadian Art Magazine as one of the top exhibitions of 2016. Eunice Luk is a Toronto-based artist whose work spans various materials, from screen printing and ceramics to poetry and wearable objects. Often, the artist will produce a work in one medium and rethink it in another form as a second work. As the title of the work suggests, a line becomes a poem, or a poem becomes a ceramic, an installation, a drawing, or a feeling. An emerging artist, Luk has exhibited at numerous galleries in Toronto, Printed Matter in New York, and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Luk recently completed the Kohanecho Artist-in-Residence program in Yokohama, Japan and heads the Canadian independent publisher Slow Editions. Shawn Evans’s dedicated painting practice is one of deconstructing images of architectural interiors and exteriors onto a flat image plane. The layered spaces he depicts are often derived from the omnipresent and banal urban landscapes of our daily experiences. The transparency of the layers in his work reflects the permeability of public and private spaces. Represented by Barbara Edwards Contemporary, Evans is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art + Design, an alumnus of Banff Centre, and his work contributes to the permanent collections of various institutions, including that of Jim and Susan Hill (The Esker Foundation).
