DIRECTOR’S NOTE
SECURE THE FUTURE OF
CORBIN
Dear Corbin Members,
The Inland NW Community
Foundation awarded Corbin a
$ 25,000 grant for the elevator installation project. We are
overjoyed and very thankful.
Several years ago, Corbin set up an account with INWCF so
that members could make direct donations to the foundation to secure Corbin’s future. All you have to do is go to
INWCF.org, click on the “Give now” button on the right
hand top, select Corbin on the drop down menu, and then
enter payment information.
For legacy support, please consult http://inwcf.org/give/
digital-tools-for-donors-advisors and also talk to your tax
attorney or financial advisor so that you will make a good
decision and avoid paying unnecessary taxes.
If you have enjoyed the Center, please help secure its future
by donating to INWCF and to Corbin directly.
Either way, your support will be much appreciated and will
make a definite difference. If you would like to meet with
Corbin’s treasurer or with me to talk things over, please call
327-1584 x10.
See you soon!

Gossip Girls—
International Visitor. Joy Bergloff’s daughter from
New Zealand will be visiting for the month of June. Joy
works the front desk at Corbin on Tuesday mornings.
New Adventures. Corbin members Janie Hudson, Virginia Wood, and Millie Vance are leaving the Corbin area to join family members in other
parts of the country. We wish them safe travels and a great new beginning!
We will miss them since they were so active here and contributed much to
the Corbin atmosphere.
A Day at the Theatre: Aidan (7) and Alyssa Sitton (4), Christa Richardson’s
grandchildren, attended their first musical “Mary
Poppins” at the Spokane Children’s Theater which
lasted 2 ½ hours. While Alyssa sat on the edge of
her seat during the entire performance, Aidan
began to wiggle towards the end. Asked if he wanted to see another musical, he replied that he was
not sure. Both, however, loved their cookie at
intermission.
Teachers Award: Mary Kay Bryan’s oldest daughter
Shannon has been acknowledged with the Staff
Achievement Grant 2015/2016. Shannon is a middle
school teacher at Garrison Middle School
(Walla Walla School District). Congratulations Shannon!
Congratulations! Gretchen Hansten, Idaho State FFA
President. Gretchen Hansten, granddaughter of
John and Carol Vrolson, was recently selected as
the Idaho State FFA (Future Farmers of America)
president for the 2016-2017 year. She is a 2016
graduate of Jerome High School and will attend the
University of Idaho this fall majoring in Ag.
Education.

THE VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Corbin’s Volunteer for July is Nancy Bevan. Nancy was
born in Spokane and grew up on a wheat farm in Readan,
WA. She attended schools in Readan where she graduated
high school and then attended WSU. Nancy taught school
for 35 years—32 years at Fairchild Elementary on the AFB.
She keeps busy with her hobbies of photography, tennis
and gardening. She is a mother of three and grandmother
of five.
Nancy has been a Corbin member and volunteer for six
years. She is a primary photographer at Corbin events. She and Bill attend
various theatres in town—Civic and Modern Theatres. They are big fans of
Paul Ruch and Judy Albrecht (our very own Corbin Players). Thanks so much,
Nancy, for being Corbin’s photographer. We appreciate all you do. Virginia
Chapman, Volunteer Coordinator.
Our very own Paul Ruch wrote a play
about Eleanor Roosevelt which gives
insight into her life, work, and thoughts.
In the play,
Judith
Albrecht
plays Eleanor and Paul is the reporter,
interviewing her. This is a play that the
whole family can enjoy because it brings a
historical person to life, something that is
often missing in history lessons.

The success of Corbin’s Ice Cream Social on June 10
was based on several things. A low admission price of

A wonderful sponsor, Hennessey

out delicious ice cream with toppings
but also brought along its service dog
Paddy, whom everyone wanted to
cuddle. There was an art exhibit by Corbin Instructor
Jaquan Tracy and her students. And, of course, great
performances by B. Dalen Gunn, Amber Fiedler, and
Hudson Drake from the Spokane Valley Summer
Theatre. Thank you, everyone, for sponsoring and attending!

the risk of falling even greater. A Matter of
Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a
program designed to reduce the fear of falling
and increase activity levels among older adults.
The fun and engaging workshop includes eight

facilitators. Only 14 per class—sign up early

ATTENTION ALL NEW &
LONG TIME CORBIN
MEMBERS
By Carole Brown, Auction Chair
Summer is here and fall is just
around the corner. That means it
will soon be time for Corbin’s
auction. We are asking each member to bring one
item or more to the Center for the October
auction, no later than September 16, 2016. We
know you all want to help, but just don’t know
how to. Here are some suggestions:
1. You can start by bringing in an item or two
suitable for the auction (no clothes).
2. We need your time to help organize and run
it. There is a lot of behind the scenes work to
do. We know people want to help—they may
just need to know what to do.
3. We only need you for an hour or two. Many
hands make a light load and we can’t just rely
on a few members.
Corbin is over a 1,000 members strong, where are
all of you? I have chaired at least 4 auctions for
Corbin. Now I am asking the members to step up
and help us. This is our 14th year and we want
this one to be over the TOP. We can do it with
everyone’s help.
