The warm hues of the Tempo collection reflect the
natural contours and genuine material of wood. The
Tempo floors create a durable foundation for interior
decoration, adaptable to changes over time. They

manufactured from warm-coloured species of
wood: oak, beech and American cherry. Moreover,

FORTE
COLLECTION
The deep hues of the Forte collection create an
intimate, sensual atmosphere. The vibrant nuances
of dark wood inspire bold and unconventional
solutions in interior decorating. Forte is a stylish

THE FINNISH SOUL
Karelia’s Saima Design collection reflects the solemn
beauty of the Finnish birch forest. The collection has
been inspired by a number of outstanding Finnish
designers and architects, including Aino and Alvar
Alto and Tapio Wirkkala, sharing the vision to
combine beauty with functionality. Both the Altos
and Tapio Wirkkala favoured using birch for their
designs.
Architects Aino and Alvar Alto are renowned for
contemporary architecture, placing the human being at the
centre. They used wood in an innovative way in both
interior and furniture designs, thus creating several Nordic
design icons. The Aaltos understood and appreciated the
qualities of birch, such as durability, beauty and the unique
pattern formed in the veneer surface. The Altos provided
direction for the design of the Saima products in their
design of wooden walls, ceiling panels and innovative floor
surfaces.
The structure of the Saima floors, with vertically
positioned veneer, highlights the unique character of
the wood. Meanwhile the wide range of patterns,
lengths and colours enables you to design your own,
personalised floor for every room and context.
A good looking floor material can also be functional.
Thanks to their special characteristics, the Saima floors offer a durable, timeless solution that works
well with all architectural trends. With its versatile selection and countless laying patterns, Saima
offers many design solutions.
Tapio Wirkkala is one of the top names of
Nordic design. He was also an outstanding
artist who favoured using birch in his work.
In 1980, Wirkkala participated in the
development of the Saima parquet floor. His
idea was to stain the birch veneer. This gave
the material a unique, grey tone resembling
that of a wasp’s net. Thanks to the
outstanding durability of the material, as
well as its esthetical qualities, Saima was
selected as floor for Wirkkala’s exhibition
that was touring the world at the time. In
those days, only small amounts of grey
Saima floors were produced – most of which
for Tapio

Upofloor Hardwood Floors are manufactured from genuine
wood. We have selected some of the most beautiful and
hardwearing species. Different wood species have their own feel,
reflecting the history and growth conditions of the forest.

A PERFECT CONSTRUCTION
Upofloor hardwood floorboards are manufactured entirely from
genuine wood. Wood is a living material, contracting and
expanding in accordance with the seasons and changing climate
conditions. It is essential for the frame structure of the boards and
the wooden materials used in the frame to limit these natural
movements. The cross-directionally glued three-layer structure of
Upofloor boards effectively prevents the natural movements of
wood resulting from humidity.

- as the well as our whole production chain is based on Finish craftsmanship, decades of
experience and concern for the environment.
As a guarantee of its high quality, Upofloor
has been awarded the ISO 9001 quality

classifications for construction materials, E1

Activities that are in line with sustainable
development guide the entire Upofloor
production chain from R & D and production
to sales and marketing. Hardwood floor
materials are primarily sourced from reliably
documented sources, and the waste wood
created as a by-product of manufacture is
used to heat some of Upofloor’s factories. As
a recognition of its comprehensive
environmental approach, Upofloor has been
awarded the SFS-EN ISO 14001 environmental
management certificate, and the PEFC
certificate, which is used for controlling the
origin of materials.
In addition to looks, there are also other aspects to consider. For
instance, it is better to select a hard and fine-grained species of
wood for spaces requiring a high level of wear resistance. Since
wood is a living material, the appearance of a hardwood floor will
change in time due to the effects of light.
Ash
Ash is a strong hardwood species,
harder than oak. The light-toned
surface of ash is enlivened by a
distinctive grain pattern. The wood
turns slightly yellow over time.
Oak
Its warm, natural colours and
sturdiness make oak a popular choice
for floors. Oak wood has long, straight
grains. The colour darkens to a warm
amber yellow tone over time.
Birch
Birch is a pale and strong wood
species. The wood is pale cream in
colour and has a wavy figuring, with
clear knots. Birch turns yellows over
time.
Merbau
Merbau is a dark, very hard species
with a high level of wear resistance.
The heartwood of merbau is warm
brown with slight yellow gold stains.
Merbau turns darker over time.
Beech
Beech floors feature a silky surface and
harmonious colour tones. This wood
species is hard and impact resistant.
The warm tone of the wood turns
golden over time.
Walnut
Walnut is a dark, medium hard species,
slightly softer than oak. Unlike most
other wood, walnut turns lighter over
time and becomes golden brown.

CHANGING OF FLOOR COLOUR
UV radiation affects the colours of hardwood floors. Colour changes represent a
natural process occurring in the surface of the wood boards. Radiation does not,
however affect the varnish or oil coating of the boards.
The hues characteristic of Oak, Birch, Beech, Merbau and Ash turn darker, while
Walnut and heat-treated Baroque boards become lighter.

EASY TO INSTALL
THE REALLOC SYSTEM
The Upofloor range of high-quality hardwood
floorings can be installed without glue with
the RealLOC system. RealLOC flooring is based
on a locking tongue-and-groove system that
connects and interlocks flooring boards
accurately and tightly.
Installing RealLOC flooring is easy and
practically self-instructive. However, it is
important to install the floor under the right
conditions and to follow laying instructions to
achieve a perfect result

At Upofloor, our timber sourcing is guided by
the principles of sustainable forestry, that forest
resources that society enjoys today are available
now and in the future. Upofloor is PEFC
certified, Programme for the Endorsement of
Forest Certification. PEFC is the world’s largest
forest certification standard. All wood in our
flooring meets the new EU Timber regulation.
WOOD HARDNESS
The Brinell scale indicates the comparative hardness of different wood species.
As a rule the higher the Brinell-hardness, the better the floor’s ability to
withstand impacts, indentations and wear.
In this table the average hardness degree of timber materials has been
compared to wear surface of Upofloor hardwood floorings.

Oil treatment retains wood’s
genuine, natural qualities
and colour shades. Oil
treated floorings are
available in natural or lighter
shades, as well as treated
with the dark Antik-oil.
Lacquering gives a
hardwood floor a durable,
long-lasting protection. Our
gloss lacquer gives the floor
a shiny, polished look, while
the satin lacquer
complements the wood’s
character by accentuating
its natural structure. The
subtle finish of the matte
lacquer produces an
untreated, bare wood look.
Brushing the surface
highlights the natural
structure of the grain and
emphasizes the texture of
the wood. Brushing effects
vary, depending on the
wood species.
Staining further enhances
the wood’s natural colour
tones. It also allows us to
apply new colours, thus
completely transforming
the appearance of the
wood. Upofloor offers a
wide range of stained
options – from the palest
white, to rich charcoal
shades.
Bevelled edges give the
floor a distinct look. We
offer a number of floors
with a bevelled edge finish
in varying degrees.
Heat treatment is an
environmentally friendly
method that accentuates
the characteristics of
genuine wood. In the heat
treatment process the wood
is heated to over 200°C
without any additives.
