MINESTRONE SOUP
(Serves 6 as a lunch and 10 as a starter)
1 carrot, peeled and diced
1 white onion, peeled and diced
1/2 leek, washed and diced
1 sticks of celery, washed and diced
1 courgettes, diced
1/2 handful of peas
1/2 handful of broad beans
1 handful of roughly chopped spinach
1 litres vegetable stock
1/2 medium potato, peeled and diced
30g cooked borlotti beans
1 tomato
30g cooked macaroni or other small pasta shape
Grated parmesan cheese to finish
Blanch, skin, deseed and dice the tomatoes.
Cook the onions gently on a low heat for a few 7 minutes, without colouring them,
then add the carrots and cook for a further 5 minutes.
Next add the celery, then the courgette, the leek, peas and broad beans and spinach,
cooking for a few minutes each time before adding the next veg.
When the last veg has been in for 3 minutes, add the stock, potatoes and borlotti
beans. Bring to the boil and then turn down and simmer until all the vegetables are
cooked.
Add the pasta, adjust the seasoning and mash the potato up a bit.
Finish with lots of grated parmesan. I like to mix in some basil pesto too!

MR. HASSAN JARAR
CEO, BAHRAIN ISLAMIC BANK
MEMBER OF CAPITAL CLUB
An evening with the Four Seasons
Moroccan Night
MR. JEAN-CHRISTOPHE DURAND
OUTGOING CEO, BNP PARIBAS BAHRAIN
MEMBER OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS, CAPITAL CLUB
JC Durand said Capital Club presence has proved an
excellent opportunity for bankers, businessmen,
investors and even the public sector’s Who’s Who to
network and exchange.
“The Capital Club is a very good institution for
networking and bringing people of different walks
together from Bahrain and beyond.”
Ramadan Tent
I often tell friends and colleagues that if
you want to meet and network with likeminded individuals or if you want to be
somewhere exclusive then the Capital Club
is possibly the best address on the Island.
When I come to the Capital Club, the staff
recognizes me, they address me by name,
they know my food and drink preferences
and this is itself makes me feel not only
welcome, but very special.
DR. ABEER AL KOBAISI
COSMETIC SURGEON
MEMBER OF CAPITAL CLUB
MR. ZAHER Z. HAMMOUDA
CHAIRMAN & MANAGING DIRECTOR, IMPACT GROUP
GOLD FOUNDER MEMBER OF CAPITAL CLUB
I was fortunate enough to be one of the founding
members of the Club. It was an idea that emerged
out of the need to have a ‘private’ by invitation-type
club where executives from the private and public
worlds can meet, relax, entertain, and above all
interact and exchange.
The Capital Club Bahrain grew quickly to be a venue
where executives can find an escape from the daily
hustle and bustle of life; a place where at the end of a
long working day, they, their families and friends can
meet in stunning surroundings and breath-taking
views, and they can enjoy one of the Kingdom’s finest
dining experience.
Arabian Night
Additionally the ability for members to use the club
facilities for business meetings during the day has
proven very useful and popular. The Club is a great
place to entertain our clients and VIPs who visit
Bahrain.
9
The Club fits a certain type of thought in my
head. We needed a place where people with
the same mentality and standard of life can
connect. An exchange of knowledge occurs
when you talk to other club members, a type
of mutual education. This is a true club, in
the sense that you need to have a resource
of support, and the Capital Club is the right
place to offer such support to its members.
MR. BASHAR BAZIAN
MIDDLE EAST HEAD, ELIAN
MEMBER OF CAPITAL CLUB
It’s a great platform for to hold business
meetings and conferences.
I take full
advantage of my membership to network
and entertain our clients – by all definitions
it is a fine institution.

Outgoing CEO, BNP Paribas Bahrain
New paradigm for banking in the offing
With the rapidly changing business climate worldwide, the global banking industry is
bracing for a new paradigm.
The new regulatory requirements such as capital adequacy and liquidity ration on one
side as part of the implementation of Basle-III and reinforced rules on anti-money
laundering, tax evasion and compliance with international sanctions are some important
aspects of the new realities the global banking sector is grappling with.
The global banking industry is in the final stages of the
implementation of Basle-III requirements and
reinforcing its global standards of ethics and compliance
“outgoing CEO of BNP Paribas Bahrain, Jean-Christophe
Durand, in an exclusive interview told Mahmood
Rafique, Senior Editor bizbahrain.
The implementation of the new regulations will not only have an
important impact in terms of costs for the industry but also puts
strong pressure on the profitability and return on equity, and
this changes the banking paradigm, he said.

Dr. Abeer Isa Alkobasi
Cosmetic Surgeon
New laws will help to restore the sanctity of cosmetic surgery
New legislation to check the rampant medical malpractices in plastic and cosmetic
surgery, a discipline particularly vulnerable to misuse, will help regulate the profession
and maintain its ethical sanctity, says Dr. Abeer Isa AlKobaisi, Bahrain’s first female plastic
surgeon.
A pioneer in aesthetics and a growing force in the highly competitive, male dominated
world of cosmetic surgery, Dr. Abeer began her journey in Bahrain. Today she is the CEO
and founder of Dr. Abeer Cosmplastic and affiliated to
various prominent hospitals in in the region.
In the cool, elegant confines of the Capital Club, the
Country’s premier venue for high net worth
professionals and business people, Dr. Abeer looked
perfectly at ease as she struck up a conversation with

Mr. Hassan Jarrar
CEO, Bahrain Islamic Bank
Islamic banks at par with traditional banking
Islamic Financial Institutions (IFIs) are at par with conventional bank in terms of
transparency and disclosures as well as in their business model, says Mr. Hassan Jarrar,
CEO of Bahrain Islamic Bank (BisB) in an exclusive interview with bizbahrain.
Mr. Jarrar rejected the unwarranted criticism of IFIs transparency, and pointed out that
today IFIs have adequate and proven tools for maintaining transparency and disclosures
in accordance with international standards. ‘My answer to the criticism from those who
don’t believe Islamic Banking is at par with conventional
and international banking institutions is very simple.
Islamic banks did not invent toxic assets, they did not
export toxic instruments to the rest of the world and
they did not play a role in ‘nearby’ brining down the
entire global financial system in 2008. It is important to
note that Islamic banks in general, and BisB in particular
comply with the latest regulatory requirements in terms
of accounting and financial reporting by enforcing the
latest regulatory reporting tools, such as IFRS, GAAP…
