The Morrison Family YMCA is the main hub for summer camp and allows
a great variety in your child’s schedule. Several features and amenities at
the Morrison Family YMCA that help create an authentic camp experience
for your child such as: Large Outdoor Waterpark, Bojangles’ Park Pavilion
(featuring an outdoor airnasium and art studio with pottery wheels and
kilns), Curran Family Teaching Kitchen, Gymnastics Studio, Dance Studios
and Preschool Classrooms.

Located one mile from the Morrison Family YMCA, the Ballantyne Arts Center allow us to provide campers with a genuine theatre and
arts experience. During summer camps at this location, campers will experience our versatile theatre space consisting of two spacious
classrooms, a rehearsal studio, dance studio and a black box theatre.

Through a unique partnership with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, the Morrison Family YMCA hosts the majority of our themed and
sports camps here. With this location being adjacent to the YMCA, we have hikes through the walking trails to the Morrison Family
YMCA and are sometimes able to enjoy the Waterpark.
CAMP HIGHLIGHTS
Outdoor Adventure Camp
At the Y our Outdoor Adventure Camp is anything but traditional. In addition to swimming,
games, art and crafts and archery, your child will experience exciting scavenger hunts and
solving various mysteries of our YMCA phantom! Through fun activities, our Camp Counselors
will teach your child to discover the outdoors, build awesome skills to earn character
bracelets as well as learn the importance of working together as a team.
Sports and Fitness
Whether your child is interested in trying a new sport or perfecting skills, we have the camp
that is perfect for the summer! From flag football and soccer to dodgeball, campers will have a
blast learning games and drills around the sport they love.
Dance, Cheer and Gymnastics
Whether your child wants to twirl, jump, cheer or flip, our Dance, Cheerleading and
Gymnastics Camps are where they will love spending those summer months. Your child will
learn proper techniques and basic skills while building self-esteem.
Well-Trained and Energetic Staff: We take your child’s safety seriously. Our counselors, camp staff and lifeguards
Themed Day Camp
are required to complete 30 hours of pre-camp training including CPR, First Aid, AED and Child Abuse Prevention. We conduct
background checks and drug screenings on all camp staff and employees. Our counselors also learn child development best
practices as well as techniques to encourage all campers to be inclusive and celebrate our differences.
What exactly are themed camps? At the Y our themed camps can be anything from Slime and
American Girl® to Cooking, Splash and Sparkle and Spa. These intriguing camps allow summer
campers to explore something out of the box, or grow in something they already love.
Variety of Activities and Experiences: We focus on age-appropriate enrichment activities, including games,
arts and crafts and more. In order to meet the growing diversity of our camper base, each YMCA offers a broad variety

of experiences to meet all campers’ interests. From traditional camps to sport camps to an assortment of themed camps, there is
something sure to spark your child’s excitement and interest this summer!

Dance Camp: Ballerina............................5, 9
Plie’, tutus and tip toes. This camp promotes
confidence and creativity while teaching proper
ballet technique. Inspired by the storybook
character Angelina Ballerina, this camp is a fun
and unique introduction into the world of music,
art and dance. Ages 3-5
Dance Camp: Broadway..............................7
....a 5, 6, 7, 8! “And all that Jazz!” Whether you’re
an absolute beginner or experienced performer,
there is always room to improve and work on
dance technique. Dancers learn fun and exciting
routines from selected Broadway musicals.
Campers learn the style of Broadway greats like
Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins while developing
performance technique and facial expression.
The week will end with a musical theatre dance
showcase. Ages 7-14
Dance Camp: Performing
Company Intensive..................................10
Performing Company Intensive Camp is open
only to current or potential performing company
members and more advanced dancers. Mini daily
workshops will be taught in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop,
Contemporary and Tap styles. The purpose of this
intensive camp is to assess and improve on each
dancer’s technical skills and abilities, and provide
a stable base of professional training to help
each dancer achieve their full potential. The week
will conclude with auditions for the 2016-2017
Performing Company and Competition Teams.
Attire: Leotard, tights, dance shorts (ballet, tap,
and Jazz are optional but highly recommended for
each dance style).

Dance Camp: Princess............................1, 6
“Your dancer will explore the enchanted world of
princesses, fairies and mermaids through dance,
music, crafts, games and storytelling! They will
learn ballet steps and creative ways to make
fairytales come to life. Each week will end happily
ever after with a performance. The two weeks
of princess camp will explore different themes
and characters, so your princess can experience
double the enchantment this summer!
Ages 3-5
Dance and Gymnastics Camp: USA Hip Hop.... 4
This combination camp includes gymnastics,
dance, movement, fitness and fun! Your camper’s
day will be filled with tumbling, jumping, creative
dancing while learning some of the hottest hip
hop dance moves this summer seen in shows
like “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” and
“AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW”.

This camp will bring some of your child’s
favorite books to life through dance and
creative movement. Some of our themes for the
week include Dr. Seuss, “The Keeping Quilt”,
and “I Dreamed I Was a Ballerina”. The week
will conclude with a showcase to show of our
storybook dances. Ages 3-5
Gymnastics Camp................................ 1-11
Let your child take their gymnastics skills to
a new level. Gymnasts will be introduced to a
foundation of basic floor skills (rolling, cartwheels
and handstands,) basic bar skills (front support,
casting, circles), basic vaulting skills (correct
footing to vault handstand), and basic beam skills
(balances, walks, jumps and turns). Through fun
strength and flexibility training challenges, the
gymnasts will be encouraged to master basic
skills and develop more advanced skills on all
apparatus. Join us for multiple weeks of camp to
build on their skills and master their goals! Groups
will divide by grade: Kindergarten through Second
graders and Third through Fifth graders.
Ages 4-11
Ninja Warrior Camp............................ 1, 7, 9
Let your child have a stealthy ninja style great
time training on obstacle courses throughout
our facility designed to challenge them. Rotate
daily through the cross-fit gym, gymnastics
studio, gyms or fields to swing, jump, crawl and
climb to conquer new obstacle courses! Weather
permitting; a pool rotation will be included to
cool off our small warriors. Join us for a new
adventure each week!
Ages 5-11
DAY CAMP
Outdoor Adventure Camp Add-on: ....... 1-11
Explorers Explorers welcome campers of every
age! This is our half-day Outdoor Adventure Camp
experience! Campers will be split into different
groups based on age and spend the afternoons
playing group games, creating art projects,
playing in the woods, and going to the pool!
Being an explorer is the best way to spend the
afternoon!
Ages 4-11
Outdoor Adventure Camp: Discoverers.....1-11
Rising 2nd and 3rd graders are all about camp!
Discoverers will work on their archery skills this
summer at our very own archery range! We will
play games in the woods and build forts that you
could only imagine in your dreams! And of course,
don’t forget about the pool! Discoverers are
oozing with camp spirit, so naturally they will be
training their camp voices to scream the loudest
and win the spirit stick. This summer is going to
be the best yet so don’t forget to register!
Ages 6-9
Outdoor Adventure Camp: Navigators... 1-11
Rising 4th and 5th graders are the “big kids” at
Outdoor Adventure Camp. As we all know, with
age comes privilege. For our Navigators, that
means Color Wars! Navigators will represent
Outdoor Adventure once a week and compete
against Xtreme Sports Camp in a series of games
and events to win the coveted Color Wars Trophy!
Color Wars are always a camp favorite with
Navigators. Campers will of course be at the pool
everyday, and get to spend time at the archery
range. Navigators will reign supreme this summer,
so you will definitely want to be a part of it!
Ages 8-11
Outdoor Adventure Camp: Pathfinders... 1-11
Rising 1st graders will have an amazing time
and make great friends at Outdoor Adventure
Camp. We will be swimming, building forts,
playing games, singing songs, and working hard
to win the spirit stick! Pathfinders will spend the
summer having a blast while working towards
earning character bands (caring, honest, respect,
responsibility, and faith), and competing against
the other treks for prizes. Pathfinders always
love our Fun Friday surprise activities and Wacky
Wednesdays! This is one summer that you will not
want to miss out on!
Ages 5-7
Outdoor Adventure Camp:

Welcome to Teen Outdoor Adventure Camp! The
group will enjoy all of the activities that make
camp great, like archery, science experiments and
sports, in addition to going on a field trip each
week! Teen Outdoor Adventure campers gain
independence and put their leadership skills to
practice with the guidance of their counselors and
the underlying themes of Respect, Responsibility,
Honesty, Caring, and Faith - our YMCA Core
Values. From exploring the woods to songs,
skits and weekly themes, their week will be full of
opportunities to go on adventures, be silly and

Our rising kindergarteners will enjoy full days of
fun at Outdoor Adventure camp! Trekkers will

playing in the woods looking for Fuzzy Wuzzy the
Bear! For trekkers, full days of camp are a great
way to prepare for longer days in the upcoming
school year! Campers will spend the week with

This sports camp is perfect for all experience
levels, from beginner to expert. Players will learn
the fundamental skills of the sports, rules of the
game and be challenged through a fun variety of
games, drills and scrimmages.

This camp focuses on the total athlete! At Teen
Sports and Athletic Development Camp, campers
will focus on a different sporting activity each day.
Athletes will experience a group dynamic warmup, physical conditioning, learning the importance
of nutrition, and complete sports specific games
and circuit training all while promoting character
development, athletic progression, and leadership!
This variety of exercises and drills will improve
your teen’s strength, balance, flexibility and
overall understanding of the sports they love!
Teens will look forward to an afternoon in our
Teen Camp Add-on where they can hang out with
their friends and enjoy a variety of activities after
their morning full of sports! Make sure to check it

Our youngest athletes learn the basic skills of
soccer, basketball, t-ball and flag football in
addition to fun traditional camp games!

Track & Field Camp.................................2, 6
This camp is led by local collegiate and high
school track athletes. Your camper will become a
faster, stronger and smarter runner. Campers will
leave with an increased knowledge, love for the
sport and new friends. Ages 7-11
Triathlon Camp.................................. 1, 2, 3
Athletes will learn how to train for the swim, bike
and run portions of a kids’ triathlon race. Many
other skills will be covered including transitioning
quickly, biking safely, running efficiently,
conditioning and more! As the youth athletes
navigate the challenges of a triathlon, they will
also build essential life skills in fitness, exercise,
discipline and self confidence! Each camper must
be a green band swimmer and provide his/her own
bike. Ages 7-11
Volleyball Camp.........................................8
Volleyball Camp is a great way to get a taste
of the fun and excitement of volleyball. Basic
volleyball rules and drills will be taught. Serving,
passing, spiking, setting and team strategy will
all be practiced at camp along with developing
coordination and jumping skills. Ages 7-11

X-Treme Sports Camp Add-On.............. 1-11
X-Treme Sports Camp is for kids who love
sports! Campers will play traditional sports like
basketball, football and soccer. We’ll mix it up with
popular camp games like dodgeball, gator ball
and many more! Each Wednesday will feature the

Yoga Camp............................................5, 7
What is yoga? How can it help the body and
mind? In this camp kids will learn movement
that helps the body stretch and strengthen
through yoga, as well as how to quiet the mind
to concentrate in school, sports or stress. They
will also be introduced to Pilates and cardio. Kids
will have fun in a non-competitive and supportive
environment, learn to work together and to
care for themselves by participating in mindful
activities, games, crafts, relaxation and outdoor
time.

We are racing against time and teams during this
week of the Amazing Race Camp. Based off the
TV show, campers will be divided into groups and
challenged by questions and activities that will
push their minds to the limit!

Join us for this girls only camp that focuses on
the American Girl® series. Our crafts, games
and lessons will be geared around the American
Girl® stories that help teach life lessons to
young ladies. Each week of camp we will explore a

are not included in camp, but we encourage all

gardeners will get their hands dirty as they learn
all about how things grow. Crafts, stories and
songs will focus on plants, flowers and garden

Our ladies will spend the week expressing
themselves though self esteem conversation,
creative writing, public speaking and, of course,
fun girl stuff. Our goal is to build each other up
and learn creative ways to express ourselves in

Off into the great, wild woods we will go this
week! Join us as we learn about forest animals like

Summer is here and that means sun, sand, ocean

inner beach bum with crafts, stories, songs and
games designed to get the summer party started!

It’s time for a preschool Luau party as we go to
the islands to inspire our songs, stories, crafts
and games! All things Hawaiian will set the mood
for this beach bash complete with grass skirts,
tropical fruits and the wonders of the ocean. Ages 2-5
medicine through interactive experiences with
Carolinas HealthCare System and the Morrison
Family YMCA. Students will participate in various
hands-on activities in medicine, health care and
scientific research.

Is your child a little scientist? Have them join us
for our Mad Scientist summer camp series! Each
week of this summer we will explore a different
area of science. From wizards brews to flying

Your camper will want to join us as we travel
around the world to experience the culture of
foreign countries through food, music, and games.

Pink Out Camp.......................................5, 8
Does your child dream of everything pink?! We
know how she feels. Have her join us for a week
full of girly activities. We will paint nails, do our
hair, make jewelry, and just be excited to be girls!

Pirates and Princesses Camp......................2
Adventure awaits our young pirates and
princesses. Arts and crafts, obstacle courses,
stories and of course, treasure will fill our days.
Whether searching for jewels or slaying dragons,
it is sure to be magical! Ages 2-5
Pool Party T/R Camp Add-on.................. 1-9
Extend your child’s camp experience with a visit
to our wade pool and splash park on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. Let them swim and splash
with their camp buddies and cool down after
a fun filled day. Staff will transfer campers to
Preschool Pool Party from morning camps held
at the Morrison YMCA only. For the safety of our
preschool campers, bus transportation is not
provided from other camp locations. Ages 3-5
Put me in the Zoo Camp..............................7
It’s going to be a zoo in preschool! Join us for fun
filled songs, stories and crafts inspired by our
favorite animals. And don’t be surprised when
your child comes home with elephants, tigers and
flamingoes!
Ages 2-5
Road Trippin’ Camp............................3, 6, 8
If you like travel and exploration, this is the camp
for you! In Road Trippin’ Camp, teens will enjoy a
week of field trips throughout Charlotte and the
region. Each day, your teen will leave in our YMCA
bus and take a day-long field trip to one of the
many great sites throughout the region. All field
trip fees are included in the total price excluding
any special stops for treats. Ages 10-14
Serve Camp.......................................3, 6, 9
In Serve: Volunteer Camp, our teens will be
building their leadership skills and serving our
community. They will be trained and serve as an
active volunteer for the Morrison Family YMCA
while taking on a special project designed to
benefit our YMCA Community. Participants will
work as a team and their leadership, creativity
and constructive problem solving skills will play
a key role in each activity for the camp. Our
volunteers will not want to miss the afternoon
with our Teen Camp Add-on where they will enjoy
games and activities around the Y with their
friends! Be sure to check that out too.

Seuss Parade Camp....................................5
Oh the places our campers will go when we step
inside the wonderful, wacky world of Dr. Seuss!
Songs and crafts inspired by some of the greatest
children’s books of all time are sure to delight
their imaginations. And just like the great author
tells us, we will discover “from there to here and
here to there, funny things are everywhere!” Ages 2-5
Slime Camp.................................... 2, 4, 6, 8
Icky, sticky, slime! Campers will love this week as
we make all sorts of gross concoctions. There will
be slime that stinks and even slime you can eat.
Take home your yucky creations each day to show
off to your family!

Splash Camp: Bubbles........................3, 6, 9
Splish, splash! During the hot summer months,
the best way to cool off is in the water. Boy, have
we got some great water games for you! We will
spend the week getting wet and wild in the pool
and by playing a variety of water relay games on
the field that will keep us all cool!

Calling all ultimate outdoor guys and girls! During
Survival Camp, campers will learn all of the
essential knowledge that will equip them for their
next journey. These skills include water collection,
identifying poisonous leaves and berries and how
to build a fire. We will wrap up the week with a
fire and s’mores to show off our skills.

Does your child love to tell stories, ask questions
and make books come to life? Have her come
write-on with us at camp! We will learn journalist
techniques and write stories she will want to read

Stealth and quickness is key in the life of a ninja!
Campers will take a week to learn all the skills
needed to be great sidekicks for everybody’s
favorite turtles! From making our own shells, to
obstacle courses, your child will love learning to
be like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!

The Land Before Time Camp................ 1, 5, 9
We’re going prehistoric and learning all about
the Land Before Time. Campers will venture
back before written records and experience an
archeological dig where they put together a
skeleton of what may be a prehistoric animal.

Under the Big Top Camp.............................4
It’s time for circus animals, acrobats, and clowns!
Songs, stories and crafts will bring the circus to
life for your little ring master. Add in some circus
style obstacle courses and goodies and this is
sure to be the greatest show on earth! Ages 2-5

Does your child love all forms of transportation?
We will spend our week getting creative and
making our own vehicles from found objects in

Resident Camp | Ages 7 - 16
Located just 17 miles south of Charlotte, Camp Thunderbird’s 1.7-mile shoreline
provides the ideal backdrop for life-changing experiences. For more than seventy
