Spring Events Delmar Duathlon V Sunday, April 24 8am Elm Avenue Park Run 2 miles, cycle 10 miles, run 2 miles! This event is co-sponsored by the Bethlehem area YMCA and Bethlehem Parks & Recreation Department. For detailed race, fees, and registration i nformati on vi si t del mardu.com . Registration is ongoing and is limited to 300 registrants. Thursdays in the Park Bring a picnic, blanket and join us on Thursday evenings at Elm Avenue Park for some live children’s entertainment. All shows begin at 7pm on the special events lawn (adjacent to the pool entrance). In case of rain, performances will be relocated to the large pavilion at the back of the park. Join us at the Farmer’s Market for activities that include bike inspections, skills course, bike sales, prizes and more. Be sure to bring your bike and helmet. This event is co-sponsored by the Bethlehem Police Youth Bureau with assistance from the Bethlehem Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee and the Capital District Transportation Committee. National Senior Health & Fitness Day Wednesday, May 25 “Improve Your Health for a Better Self” Help us celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day, by participating in various health and fitness opportunities. Participation is free and a schedule of activities will be available late April. Dive-In Movie Friday, August 5 Join us for a late night swim and movie under the stars on the big screen. The movie will start at 8:15pm. Sorry, no floats allowed in the pools. Free admission after 7pm. This summer you can help pick the Dive-in Movie! Simply vote for your favorite out of a choice of 5 movie candidates, which will be posted in the pool lobby. Voting will take place at the Elm Avenue Park pool, beginning June 8, opening day. Pool patrons can vote everyday, once a day until July 17. www.townofbethlehem.org Page 8 Elm Avenue Park Pool Complex-Opens Wednesday, June 8th! Residency Requirements Special Notes: The pool complex is open to Town of Bethlehem residents and their guests. Non-resident guests must be accompanied by a resident with a valid pool pass. Bethlehem Central School District residents who do not live in the Town of Bethlehem may obtain a special Pay-As-You-Go pass and pay guest rates. Bethlehem Central School District tax bill is required to obtain pass. At times throughout the summer, sections of the pools may be closed due to staff limitations. Weekdays from June 27-August 5, only a small section of the L-shaped pool will be open from 11am to 12:05pm and the Diving pool will open at 12:00pm. From August 13-September 5 the pool complex will be open 11:30am-7:30pm, Monday-Friday and 11am-7pm on Saturday & Sunday & holidays. Children under age 9 must be accompanied by someone age 14 and older. Pool Hours Pools are cleared daily at 7:50pm. The pool complex will be open daily from June 8-September 5. Spray features use recycled water; DO NOT DRINK. After 5:00pm….…………………$3.75 Children who are not fully toilet trained must wear a swim diaper covered by rubber pants. Party Reservations at the Pool Town of Bethlehem residents with a valid pool pass may reserve the “arts & crafts” shelter and surrounding grass area near Splash Islands for parties according to the following schedule: Monday-Friday 4pm-close (12noon-3pm available beginning August 8) Saturday or Sunday 12noon-3pm OR 4pm-close The fee is $125 and includes one of the above blocks of time and admission for up to 20 party attendees (wristbands will be provided). Additional guests are $4.00 each. You will also receive a shout out on the pool PA system and a white board greeting. A wagon will be available to transport your party supplies from your car to the pool area. For further information, visit the Parks & Recreation Department website (www.townofbethlehem.org). We do, however, strongly recommend renewing passes early to avoid waiting in line on hot days. All residents age 5 & older must have a pool pass with a bar code to enter pool complex. If you have a pass, don’t throw it away!! You can renew it...here’s how: Renew online ♦ See details (About Online Services) on Page 10. ♦ Residency for all online pass renewals will be verified using the 2016 tax rolls. Sorry this option is only available if you are a property owner. So bring a friend and take advantage of this opportunity (see box to the right for details about residency). Activities may not necessarily meet every week due to facility availability or holidays. Occasionally school activities or inclement weather will force cancellations of some sessions. In such cases, we will attempt to reschedule, however there is no guarantee. Children must be age specified by the first scheduled class. *About Residency…. Adults are 18 and older, unless otherwise specified. Please attend only the activity as persons living in, or owning property within, the Town of Bethlehem. The Town may require proof of residency when enrolling a new household. (ies) for which you have registered. Fees are not pro-rated. There will be a $20 fee for returned checks. Please notify the office if you have any medical condition, special need, or you require special assistance to participate in an activity. You Snooze...You Lose! Nothing ruins an activity quicker than waiting until the last minute to register. If there are not enough registrants five (5) days prior to the start of an activity, it may be cancelled. Entering the Lottery Spin is your best chance to get into your desired activity! All grade levels refer to grades entering in September. Residents are defined So don’t wait!! Non-residents (NR) may register for activities beginning April 22 after the lottery spin. (NR denotes non-resident fee) Online registration for the Lottery Spin begins NOW! If you are new to online registration or have forgotten your Household ID # and Password, a link is available under Recreation Registration on the left side of the homepage on the Town website. This ID # will be your permanent User Name for all future online activity registrations and pass renewals. ACTIVITY CANCELLATION, REFUND & WAIT LIST POLICY To withdraw from an activity, participants must notify the office (439-4955 Option 3, then Option 4). Activity supervisors do not report cancellations to the office. A cancellation fee of $5.00 per person per refund request will be deducted from all refunds OR your refund may be applied to your household as a credit with no cancellation fee. A pro-rated refund will be granted if the office is notified prior to the second class following the participant’s registration date. If the Parks & Recreation Department must cancel an activity no cancellation fee is charged. Refunds weeks. If an activity fills you will be placed on a waitlist and your payment processed. You will be notified if an opening occurs. Please bring your ARC Learn to Swim card from previous year. This will help with skill level placement. All lessons are held rain or shine at the Elm Avenue Park Pool. During inclement weather, the class will meet, but may not swim. (Will not meet July 4) Register for any number of sessions. During early morning lessons, the pool complex will close at 10:40am and will reopen at 11:00am. Town residents who participate in aquatic activities after 11:00am must leave their updated pool pass at the front desk prior to the start of class and must pick up their pass within 1/2 hour after their class ends. Non-residents (NR) who participate in aquatic activities after 11:00am must leave their Driver’s License at the prior to the start of class and must pick up their Driver’s License within 1/2 hour after their class ends. Learn to Swim Choose your session and time below: Grades 1 & older Monday-Friday (not July 4) Session I: $62/$72 (NR); Session II & III: $69/$79 (NR) Our experienced staff offers small group instruction. Skills are taught based on levels established by the American Red Cross. Your child will learn new aquatic skills and refine/reinforce skills that they may already possess, all while maintaining a fun and enjoyable experience! On the first day meet along the Splash Islands fence. Tiny Tot Swim Ages 3-6 only Monday-Friday (not July 4) Session I: $72/$82 (NR); Session II & III: $80/$90 (NR) Individual instruction for beginners, a great way to learn! Various swimming skills will be taught based on your child’s ability and comfort level in the water. When registering, please indicate anything we should know about your child that would help us pair him/her with an instructor. Class meets at the gazebo. The last day of each session will be “Show Off Day”. This long standing activity tradition gives your child the opportunity to “show off” their accomplishments to parents and friends. Bring your camera!! One on One Swim Ages 4-12 Monday-Wednesday $36/$46 (NR) A 45 minute one on one personalized instruction class that is tailored to the participant’s level of swim ability. Meets 3 consecutive days, choose as many weeks as you like. Thursday and Friday will be makeup days in case of weather related pool closures. Meet your instructor at the Gazebo and choose between the Olympic or Lshaped pool to conduct the lesson. (Will not meet July 4), Join us at the Arts & Crafts area between 9:30-10:40am as we provide a creative outlet for you and your siblings during your early morning swim lessons!
