Living Superior A Monthly Publication of Superior Care Home Nursing and Rehabilitation Center July 2014 New Facility Construction Update Construction has been well underway at Superior Care Home’s new, state-of-the-art facility in Paducah Commerce Park (formerly Information Age Park). Scheduled to open its doors this fall, our new facility will offer specific neighborhoods dedicated to long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, memory and Alzheimer’s care, and outpatient rehabilitation. The new Superior Care Home will be able to accommodate up to 108 residents (76 private rooms and 16 semi-private rooms) and feature en suite baths, flat screen LCD televisions, restaurant-style menus put together by our Executive Chef Jason Ison, separate dining areas, three therapy gyms, a spa room, and a chapel. Highlights of the expansion and relocation are as follows: • Transitional care neighborhood with 20 private bedrooms with en suite private bathrooms for short-term rehabilitation stays of 1-2 weeks • Short-term rehabilitation neighborhood with 30 beds featuring 14 private rooms, 8 semi-private rooms, and an outpatient rehabilitation component • Skilled nursing, long-term care neighborhood with 46 beds featuring 30 private rooms and 8 semi-private rooms • Memory/Alzheimer’s care neighborhood with 12 private bedrooms with en suite private bathrooms in a specialized environment to provide the care required by these residents • This neighborhood concept will give each of the four neighborhoods its own living area, dining room, therapy gym, and cook-to-order kitchen These photos (taken on June 13, 2014) illustrate the recent progress made at the construction site. More photos can be found on our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/SuperiorCareHomeKY. My favorite part has been the sense of family and home here. I felt like I belonged the second I walked through the door. They’ve made my family and me feel welcome every day. I want to thank Superior Care for being there when I needed them the most. They’ve taken care of me in every aspect of healthcare. I am appreciative of everyone that works here. This has been such a pleasant and positive experience.” -Betty Dalton, recently discharged short-term rehab resident “LIKE” us on FACEBOOK! She had worked in a long-term care setting before, switched industries, but decided she needed to come back. She missed interacting and taking care of people who needed the assistance. “I love people,” Susann said, “and I wanted to get back to helping others.” Her favorite part of working at Superior is being able to go into residents’ rooms, help them with some of their daily tasks, and talk to them about how they’re doing. She enjoys lending them the support, love, and care that they deserve. Please join me in congratulating Susann as our June Employee of the Month. Her compassion for the residents and her co-workers, as well as the energy she brings into caring for them, make Susann a “Superior” employee. Helen Sims, Administrator/Owner Superior OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES With warmer weather comes outdoor activities! Our residents have really enjoyed the great weather out on our patio in recent months. Activities Director Erica Fondaw has coordinated many fun outdoor activities into the spring and summer months’ activities calendars, as well as moved normally indoor activities into the outdoors. In the past couple of months, we’ve hosted lemonade socials, planted flowers, played games, and much more all outside. Here are some photos of the fun that was had! For more photos from activities and other Superior happenings, please check out our Facebook page. She has always kept everything under control until this past Easter Sunday, when, she admits, she overdid it preparing the Easter meal and ended up spending nine days in the hospital with an infection. She then admitted to Superior Care for rehabilitation and to heal her foot injury and wound. Her wounds are almost completely healed and she’s excited about her new, specially fit shoes that will dramatically help her live her normal lifestyle once she returns home. “I haven’t been able to wear normal shoes for years,” she said. “I’m wearing these new shoes now and they’re great at relieving pressure on certain spots. I’m thrilled with them, how they look and everything. I can wear normal shoes again.” Ms. Peck contributes the time she spent with the rehab department for her success. “Everyone was great,” she said, “especially the therapy girls. They are very professional with their work and nice. I enjoyed it all. I know all the exercises have made me stronger. I’ve wanted to do everything they told me to do right so I could improve, and I think I have.” She’s enjoyed her time here but is excited to be able to go home much more physically strong than she was before so she can resume her daily active lifestyle and activities. What she’s most looking forward to is to be able to cook and bake for her grandson again (and she knows he is looking forward to that, as well!). Superior LAUNDRY STAFF The week of July 7-13 denotes National Laundry Workers Week, so we would like to take this opportunity to celebrate all of our laundry workers and thank them for all of their hard work. Our laundry workers perform a variety of general laundry and cleaning duties to provide quality laundry services and to help keep Superior Care Home in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition. We are appreciative of them all year, but especially during National Laundry Workers Week. Much like “mini-Success Stories,” each month, we will highlight and congratulate the residents who leave Superior in much better health than when they admitted. Many of these short-term residents are here to recover after a sudden fall, sickness, surgery, or broken bone. Once they heal, they’re “homeward bound” back to their homes or assisted living facility and will ultimately be able to return back to their normal lifestyle. Congratulations to the following residents who successfully completed their Superior therapy regime and were “homeward bound” this past month!
