Notes from Beth…Welcome SPRING!! What a snowy, cold winter! It seems like it will never end; but as I write this newsletter I am delighted to inform you Daylight Saving Time begins on March 9th, and even better, Spring begins on March 20th! How is that for good news. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I hope you have stayed safe, warm and healthy this winter. Beth Quaderer Friday, January 31st we traveled to the Schauer Arts & Activities Center in Hartford. We were fortunate on two fronts: First, President Scott Huedepohl and his wife Andrea accompanied us and second, the day was partly sunny and about 17* above zero. Our buffet style meal was plentiful and delicious. The Church Basement Ladies musical comedy “A Mighty Fortress is Our Basement” was hilarious! Many of us were brought to tears we laughed so hard. Kathleen Christiansen should have been with us as her name was chosen to win the traveling jackpot. Thank you Scott and Andrea for helping me escort. The Schauer Center is definitely a place we will visit again. Wednesday, May 7th, 2014 - Fireside Theatre Arguably the greatest musical ever written and certainly one of the most popular shows in Fireside history, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF makes a triumphant return to the Fireside stage. This classic show held the title as Broadway’s longest running musical for over twenty years. It is a heartwarming story featuring one of Broadway’s most beautiful musical scores. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF opened on Broadway the same year that The Fireside first opened its doors and to celebrate this dual anniversary, back by popular demand, Artistic Director Ed Flesch will return to the leading role with which he has long been associated. You won’t want to miss this Fireside “Tradition!” Location CSB, Sturtevant St. Robert’s, U.G. No one would have guessed that the concert performed that night would turn into what it is today! The UW’s 2 ½ hour Varsity Band’s Spring Concert is a full theatrical production complete with pyrotechnics. “It’s a lot of 5th quarter, the audience loves to do the chicken dance,” says Professor and Band Director Mike Leckrone.
