He has 20 years of high school coaching experience (13 in Arizona, 7 in Hawaii), in the UnderArmour™, Semper Fidelis™, and Army All American Bowls., as well as coaching the Chandler Wolves to win the 2014 Arizona State Championship. SHANNON BENTON FROSTPROOF HS (FL) Shannon was named head football coach in 2014. A graduate of Frostproof, Shannon was a four-year starting all-state cornerback who helped lead the Bulldogs to win the 1999 Florida state championship. Having played as a Frostproof Bulldog, Shannon understands the school and community, and knows how to give back and you can see that heart, that love, he has for his kids. SCOTT CRINER ROCKY MOUNTAIN HS (ID) Scott led the Grizzlies to win the 2015 Idaho 5A State Championship as Head Coach & Offensive Coordinator. Rocky Football is about creating an environment conducive to learning and the continuous development of one’s self, with daily improvement in one’s character, through effort with deliberate and directed hard work. Scott provides his students with direction and motivation to keep them on-task. 2016 SPRING GAME MARCH 26th LAVELL EDWARDS STADIUM RAY FENTON LOS ALAMITOS HS (CA) Ray is the new head coach of the Los Alamitos Griffins in 2016, after coaching Fountain Valley the past three seasons. He replaces legendary John Barnes, Orange County’s all-time leader in wins, who retired after 37 years. Earlier in his career, Ray led Cypress to the CIF-Southern Section championship in 2007, when he also was named California state coach of the year. BRANDON MATICH EAST HIGH SCHOOL (UT) Brandon has coached at East since 2010 after 5 years in Park City, bringing the triple-option Leopards their 1st state title in 19 years in 2015. When asked what had changed, Matich and every player pointed out the same thing — early morning workouts, great leadership and entirely buying into the program — as the biggest reasons for their success. It’s how he’s rebuilt and reconstructed the program he grew up cheering for into one of the state’s elite. PAUL NIHIPALI CHAPARRAL HS (NV) Paul became head coach of the Cowboys in 2014 after many years on the staff. At age 61, Paul could easily be retired, but deserves credit for saving Chaparral football and for being more than a coach. He’s that grandfather the players never had, someone who takes great interest in their lives, and making their high school experience worthwhile. He gives them hope, whether it’s winning a football game, or succeeding in life. He is Chaparral football. In 2015, Paul led the Cowboys to their best record in 25 years. DAVID RODRIGUEZ OCEANSIDE HS (CA) Dave returned to become head coach last year of the Oceanside Pirates when 26 year veteran John Carroll retired. Dave began his coaching career at Oceanside in 1995, helping win championships in 1995, ’97, ’99 and 2002, before going to Arizona and coaching at 5 schools, two as head coach, including being named 2014 Arizona Coach of the Year after a 12-1 season at Sahuarita. VAVAE TATA KAHUKU HS (HI) As a 1st year head coach, Coach Tata helped the undefeated Kahuku Red Raiders claim their 8th Koa Trophy as they won the 2015 Hawaii state football division I championship. Vavae embraces the powerhouse tradition of Red Raider football, while challenging his players to be student first, athlete second. He emphasizes a continuing philosophy of faith, family, future, and football. He considers it a lifetime commitment to mentor them to be great men through college, career, and family. JAIME ORTIZ SAN CLEMENTE HS (CA) Coach Ortiz says San Clemente is where the turf meets the surf. It may also be the last one town, one team high school in Southern California. It’s something special that he reminds his boys about on a daily basis. Jaime prefers the mentoring role he has with his players, teaching them to always compete in everything they do, from the classroom, to the weight room, study hall, and football field. Known for developing Division I quarterbacks, the Tritons have reached the CIF-SS Southwest Division championship game for two consecutive seasons.
