EDITORIAL “ A wealth and a diversity of experiences and skills that contribute towards training, support, research and knowledgesharing. ” 00 01 02 03 04 EDITORIAL JULY 2007 “ TEAMLAGARDÈRE PROFILE The Lagardère group loves sport and shares in its values. Pushing oneself to the limit, the thrill of competition and team spirit are all qualities a top athlete requires, and they are the attributes a business needs to stay ahead of the pack. Lagardère has enjoyed close links with the world of sport for many years now, and this special relationship took on a whole new dimension when we decided to create a sports sponsorship department. It was my wish to see the group help France shine on the international stage by giving them a real chance to improve on their medal tallies. In order to achieve this, the Lagardère group implemented a set-up which goes beyond the ’usual’ scope of sponsorship. At the heart of this new structure was “TeamLagardère”.This innovative and ethical project was launched in 2005, and was designed to help promote the French champions of the future. TeamLagardère is a centre of scientific expertise applied to sport, applying state-of-the-art techniques in research, training and support. The project is dedicated to sport at the highest level and aims to unearth young French talent and provide them with a two-pronged recipe for success, based on both sporting performance and cultural development. The focal point of the project is of course the people involved; athletes, scientists, coaches, teachers and many more… People involved professionally in sport, both KEY FIGURES AIMS AND APPROACHES CENTRE OF EXPERTISE: SERVICES AND TOOLS VIDEO CENTRE TOP ATHLETES ALL OUR ATHLETES STAFF DIFFERENT KINDS OF PARTNERSHIPS PARTNERS THE LAGARDÈRE GROUP on a national and international level, are brought into the project to add their unique expertise and know-how and thereby enable our elite to reach the top in sporting performances. This project is about more than just providing financial support. Our investment also takes the form of resources to develop new technologies such as the TeamLagardère video centre, that were previously unavailable, and make them available to sportsmen and women. This investment in the image of sport as a whole, with particular emphasis on the champions, reinforces the group’s commitment to toplevel sport and will also help us to create closer links with national and international sporting federations. It is also borne of our genuine desire, implemented globally and consistently, to promote the playing and watching of sport to one and all. The Lagardère group is developing a worldwide structure which brings together an increasing number of top athletes, federations, clubs and partners, not just within TeamLagardère but also the Lagardère Paris Racing swimming club, Paris Jean-Bouin sports club, Lagardère Athlé Tour athletics events, Jean-Luc Lagardère Trophy and Mondial Paris Cadets tennis tournaments and other events organised as part of the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation. Together, coaches and scientific experts design training routines to meet the specific needs of athletes while respecting their sporting integrity.” The requirements for reaching the top are many and varied. Simply stepping up the work rate is not enough to get those all-important tenths of a second or extra centimetres which make all the difference. Knowing your body better, identifying how to make more technical, physical and psychological progress and working in a better way all enable athletes to optimise their preparation. Xavier Moreau, General Manager of TeamLagardère KEY FIGURES AIMS AND APPROACHES CENTRE OF EXPERTISE: SERVICES AND TOOLS VIDEO CENTRE TOP ATHLETES ALL OUR ATHLETES STAFF DIFFERENT KINDS OF PARTNERSHIPS PARTNERS THE LAGARDÈRE GROUP A modern and innovative approach TeamLagardère is aware of this, and consequently offers its athletes: exact guidelines for their physical capacities an analysis of their techniques a specific individual training programme In order to be even more efficient, TeamLagardère has brought together all the necessary technical and human resources under one roof, with the aim of having a permanent flow of information between scientists, coaches and athletes. TeamLagardère provides a genuine training complex for athletics and tennis and applies a methodical approach to physical preparation based on the analyses from its scientific complex. The Team is organised around a technical centre which provides evaluations of muscle quality, energy levels and techniques. Techniques can be analysed by means of a unique double video system which has been installed on a training field. TeamLagardère also has a unique medical set-up which combines regular medical care with detailed biological analysis to regulate the intensity and the amount of training in order to respect the physical limits of the athletes. © Tennis Magazine / J. They need to know what level they are really at and then do the work that is required of them. They will be able to save time and optimise their workloads to make sure that they do not fall into the traps created by overtraining – namely dips in form, injury and doping.” Christian Miller, Manager of the evaluation and scheduling expertise centre 06 07 08 09 10 AIMS AND APPROACHES JULY 2007 JULY 2007 AIMS AND APPROACHES 07 08 09 10 11 TEAMLAGARDÈRE PROFILE KEY FIGURES AIMS AND APPROACHES CENTRE OF EXPERTISE: SERVICES AND TOOLS VIDEO CENTRE Services Tools used for evaluation Thanks to its technical training complex, TeamLagardère can offer a wide variety of services for athletes, clubs and federations. EDITORIAL The TeamLagardère video centre In 2007, TeamLagardère inaugurated the third area of its Centre of Expertise, namely the video centre – a unique, innovative area dedicated to movement analysis and performance enhancement. This equipment is an integral part of our wish to provide full and detailed analysis to coaches regarding the performances of their athletes. The evaluations carried out in our Centre of Expertise measure the energy and muscle capacities and now also the techniques of the various sportsmen and women. The main aim is to help them take the different decisions they face every day. This unique video system enables the technique and the tactics of the player to be evaluated. Using two complementary features, recordings use the full potential of cinematographic analysis: Sony High Definition equipment uses seven cameras in fixed spots around the pitch which enable players to be filmed in real time and to synchronise the footage with movement analysis from various pre-defined angles “ Going beyond the energy and muscular capabilities analyses which we have developed over recent years, creating this video centre within a sports complex was very much a first in the world of sport. We want to use images as a teaching tool to make it easier to identify the areas a player should work on to improve.” Motion Analysis is a movement recording system. This equipment uses 12 infra-red cameras fixed on a gantry above the pitch combined with sensors within the athlete’s clothing and provides a biomechanical analysis of the player via a 3D real-time reconstruction of their movements. Xavier Moreau, General Manager of TeamLagardère “ This technology is an incredible aid as it means that we can work on our athletes in the minutest detail and fine-tune their movements, enabling them to gain a few fractions of a second which can prove decisive in competition.” Guy Ontanon, Development Manager of Team Athletics An immediate, dedicated and personalized analysis for the athlete and for the coach These two complementary systems, designed by two of TeamLagardère’s scientific experts, Christian Miller and Annie Riquet, are aimed at providing tangible new elements to help coaches in their decision-making and thus to meet their needs in terms of analysis, observation and correction of an athlete’s movements. The athletes themselves can also study slow motion image-by-image analysis straight after their performance to see exactly how they were moving. A 3D reconstruction of movement as obtained by the Motion Analysis system A unique challenge While similar software already exists today in laboratories, having these two technologies designed in conjunction with Sony and Motion Analysis together in one sports complex is a first for French sport. These facilities enable players to give it their all out on the training field while staying within the parameters set by evaluation methods which are every bit as rigorous as those established by scientists. “ Our role is to give objective information on the physical condition of the player and now, thanks to this new technology, we can give both the coach and the player further accurate data on the latter’s technique and tactics.” Sensors used for movement analysis of athletes Christian Miller, Manager of the evaluation and scheduling expertise centre 10 11 12 13 14 VIDEO CENTRE JULY 2007 JULY 2007 VIDEO CENTRE 11 12 13 14 15 TEAMLAGARDÈRE PROFILE KEY FIGURES AIMS AND APPROACHES CENTRE OF EXPERTISE: SERVICES AND TOOLS VIDEO CENTRE TOP ATHLETES ALL OUR ATHLETES STAFF DIFFERENT KINDS OF PARTNERSHIPS PARTNERS THE LAGARDÈRE GROUP © Tennis Magazine / A. On 1 September 2006, the Lagardère Group became the new proprietors of the Croix-Catelan. This site is situated in the Bois de Boulogne on the outskirts of Paris and stretches over more than six hectares. It has 12,000 members and consists of 48 tennis courts, two swimming pools and even a 1,500m2 artificial pitch. It was originally founded in 1882 under the name of Racing Club de France as a multi-sports club. Since then, it has become the number one club in France, both in terms of the number of members and also its history – including hosting the Olympic Games when they were held in Paris in 1900. The Lagardère Group was also awarded stewardship of the 14 sports sections* of the rue Éblé sports centre. This building of some 6,000m2 is almost unique due to its location in the 7th arrondissement of Paris – right at the heart of the capital. It contains two 25metre swimming pools, a 300m2 martial arts dojo, an 18-piste fencing arena and three multi-sport gyms. These two sites are where TeamLagardère is now choosing to concentrate its infrastructure for Lagardère Paris Racing. They have top-level facilities and are designed with two purposes in mind – supporting the various sporting sections* within Lagardère Paris Racing, and therefore developing top-level sport. lAll athletes who benefit from TeamLagardère’s support can make full use of the facilities at these exceptional sites, thus enabling them to train and prepare for competition in optimum conditions.
