Wendy and Belinda have both had it on display in their shops, Lorraine has taken it to several guild’s meetings and Fran and Bonnie spent the first day of the Spring Fling Quilt Shop run at Cherry Berry Quilts with great success at all these locations. We will also be at the Glendale Quilt Show on Friday, March 13. We are lining up more dates and will have announcements and sign-ups at future meetings. Wendy Green Carol Henderson 2015 OPPORTUNITY QUILT “MOUNTAIN MAJESTY Bonnie Snell Handy Hints: For applique patches, place templates with the longest dimension along the bias (diagonal grain) of the fabric. You’ll find it’s easier to turn under a bias grain than a straight one. When appliqueing, save time and frustration by threading all of the colors of thread you will need and keep them in a pincushion Try using pinking scissors when cutting out pieces for hand appliqué. The evenly notched edges are a help in turning gentle curves . 2/15 8/14 -10- SUNSHINE & SHADOWS First, the Sunshine! A few lucky Busy Bears members’ quilts have been accepted for entry in the Glendale Quilt Show (Mar 13-14). Kudos to Bonnie Marshall Creel, The Cut-ups (for their group quilt) and Sandi Cannarella, who has two quilts in the show. Sandy has also been selected as a featured blogger on the Superior Threads web site, in addition to having her “Walk through My Garden” quilt accepted at Paducah! Also Lys Axelson’s ”Siberian Tiger” was also accepted for the Glendale Show and the Paducah ! Way to quilt girls! We’re proud of you all! Ina Niday was the lucky winner of the Orange Grove Quilt Guild opportunity quilt. She said she bought $10 worth of tickets to support the guild (she is a former member DTF) but never expected to win as she “has never won anything” Well, surprise! Congrats, Ina! Bear Mountain Quilts opened with great success. New fabrics and supplies are arriving daily, with a nice selection of both “modern” and traditional fabrics. Stop by and check it out if you haven’t already. Patchworks has started a Quilting Bee Friendship Group that meets the 1st, 3rd and 4th Wednesday every month. Starts at 10:30 and lasts all day. No fees, no obligations, just fun and friendship. Coffee, tea and snacks are provided. Don’t forget the 2015 Spring Fling quilt run, Mar 5-7, at the following seven quilt shops: Busy Bee and Cherry Berry (Calimesa): Monica’s Quilt & Bead and Quilter’s Faire (Palm Desert); Painted Lady (Redlands); and Stars & Scraps (new location in Corona). Lots of great prizes. Hope to see some of you there! As always, there are the Shadows. Jeannie M’s son Bill is recovering from a cerebral aneurysm at Kaiser Fontana. He has progressed to the point where he is out of the ICU and will begin rehab in a few days. Per Jeannie: “Many thanks to you all for keeping Billy close to your hearts and in your prayers and thoughts” . Janet Walz is recovering nicely from a fall. She had a badly bruised knee, injured fingers and a scraped hand and arm. Kay Higdon is in the hospital with excess fluid in her lungs. Prayers and positive thought are welcomed. Also, keep Janet Schultz in mind; her auto-immune issues have flared up again. And a celebration of Karen LoPresti’s life was held at Bear Country Quilts on Feb 27, where the sewing room was dedicated in her honor. Rest in peace, Karen, you will be sorely missed. It will be held at the Carson Community Center, 801 E Carson St, Carson CA at 10 am, Saturday morning. For those who are new, “Meet The Teachers” is when many teachers give a short talk on their expertise for Guild lectures and workshops, After or before the meeting you are able to talk to the teacher and see samples of their work. It is always a fun meeting and a good time to collect literature for future workshops. Some Guilds even sign then up that day.
