Toughness. Intelligence. Unselfishness. Consistency. Teamwork. Success. Improvement. These words describe the University of Pittsburgh basketball program led by head coach Jamie Dixon. Using those ideals, Dixon has established and maintained a “Tradition of Excellence” and “Culture of Success” for Pitt Basketball both on and off the floor. Dixon is a family man and complete coach who cares for his players and program to the highest degree. Under Dixon, student-athletes have consistently improved as players on the court and developed as citizens off the court. For Dixon, basketball is a lifestyle, not a job. He believes teamwork, offensive efficiency, defense, rebounding and taking good shots are the key ingredients to winning championships—themes that can be likened to successful, resilient families. Sam “Bam” Clancy — VIP Reception Host Clancy is one of the greatest athletes to come out of both Pitt and the city of Pittsburgh. A product of Fifth Avenue and Brashear High Schools, he went on to an outstanding basketball career with the Panthers from 1977-81. He became the first Pitt player to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds, and remains the school’s all-time leading rebounder with 1,342 career boards. Clancy later embarked on an 11-year professional football career as a defensive end. He also played two seasons in the United States Football League for the Pittsburgh Maulers and the Memphis Showboats. An avid proponent of the well-rounded student-athlete, Clancy returned to Pitt to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences while working as a weight room assistant for Pitt Football. Clancy contributes in many areas within the Panther Club while focusing on bolstering relationships with former Pitt varsity letterwinners and Panther Club members. Clancy will host our VIP guests and a variety of athletes and local celebrities. Kulsum Davidson — Challenge Community Award Honoree Kulsum Davidson is a human services pioneer—serving and working with children, youth, and families in the greater Pittsburgh area for almost three decades. She has touched the lives of many families and shaped policy throughout our region during her tenure at Three Rivers Youth, Wesley Spectrum Services, and other youth and family-serving agencies. Although she is formally retired, Kulsum remains passionate about eliminating racism and other ‘isms’—keeping violence at bay, families intact and preventing out of home placements for youth. She currently serves on the FISA Foundation Board of Directors, the National Family and Juvenile Justice Commission Board of Fellows and the Every Child, Inc. Board of Directors. She is also a past board member of YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh, the Sickle Cell Society, the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force and Kuntu Repertory Theatre. Kulsum is fluent in five languages. She loves to travel and spend time with her family. She and her husband, the late Reverend Hollis Davidson, have four grown children and twelve grandchildren. We are honored to have Kulsum on board as a change agent for our Agency and grateful for the opportunity to recognize her as our second Challenge Community Award honoree. eci_tri-fold_final.indd 5-6 =W@=CJM&G&X=GI@U=H@&@XGCT&VBR&@B&BRI&=L=C@&M?BCMBIM 9:;!3&<)!&.=>=?@ABC 9D86:ED86!3&FGHG FIGCJ&4GHHIBBK1&.AL=IM&NGMACB 2O)%&#PN"+%)<#&#<#*2&)*N"+/#% D 2G?GM&GCJ&J=MM=I@M (?=C&QGI1&AC>HRJACS&MASCG@RI=&>B>T@GAH "AL=&KRMA>&?=IUBIK=J&QV&'BV&)T= "AL=&GCJ&MAH=C@&GR>@ABCM& & !IBSIGK&U=G@RIACS&T=VCB@=&QV&'GKA=&/AWBC&GCJ& #L=IV&NXAHJ&UGKAHV&GCJ&M@GUU&BU&@X=&V=GI&GYGIJM <)!&.=>=?@ABC&Z566&& [[AC>HRJ=M&SGHG&& FGHG&Z7\6&&&&&&&&&&&& & !H=GM=&.%<!&QV&%=?@=KQ=I&91&5678 Tickets can be purchased online at www.everychildinc.org Phone: 412.665.0600 E-mail: [email protected] All guests must be age 21 and over.
