Breakout Session I
“How to Market to People Not Like
You: the New Market Segmentation”
Kelly McDonald, McDonald Marketing
Diversity marketing is the new norm. Diversity
comes in many forms: gender, race, age, life stage,
language preference and hobbies are all ways
in which people’s differences are recognized. By
recognizing differences and tailoring your product,
message or marketing efforts to reflect consumers’
uniqueness, you are validating the importance of a
consumer group. It may be counterintuitive to focus
on differences rather than similarities, but this can
really stretch your marketing muscles and bring
incremental results.
“Managing the Investment Portfolio
in a Low Rate Environment”
Lester Murray, The Baker Group, Oklahoma City OK
Mr. Murray will review current economic conditions
and cover the characteristics of high-performing
portfolios. Then he’ll offer strategies for preparing
for the next rate cycle along with techniques for
managing cash flows and reducing extension risk
in the portfolio. Municipal bond credit analysis will
also be included.
Lester F. Murray joined The Baker Group in 1986
and is currently a senior vice president within the
firm’s Financial Strategies Group.

work and collaboration. But never have the differences
been so profound. This presentation focuses on
key generational differences and how you can work
effectively with someone much older or younger than
you – and enjoy it!
Ted Triplett, Insight Ecosystems, Lincoln NE
For a baseball franchise, analytics play a vital role in
developing strategy, tactics and techniques. Banks
can apply this same approach to gain a competitive
advantage, improve performance and drive growth
and profitability. This entertaining and lively session
will share the story from the movie Moneyball through
the eyes of a bank. You need not know anything
about baseball to discover how to hit home runs by
turning data into insight and insight into action.
“The Focus on Interest Rate Risk”
Lester Murray, The Baker Group,
Oklahoma City OK
The regulatory emphasis on asset/liability
management will be discussed along with ways to
help you prepare for your next exam. Also included
will be methods for modeling additional stress
scenarios and reviewing the many assumptions
included in the process.
Ted Triplett, chief marketing officer at Insight
Ecosystems, is a recognized financial services
industry leader who helps banks create effective
marketing strategies to acquire, on-board, cross-sell
and retain customers.

2011 brought high unemployment, a slow
