She was the sovereign of Austria, Hungary, and Bohemia. This made her the most powerful ruler of her time and much more powerful than her husband. She was also the driving force behind the conversion of the former hunting chateau Schönbrunn in Vienna into the synthesis of Baroque art and residential palace with remarkable Baroque gardens we know today. The intricate details on this vintage−style cutlery service MARIA THERESIA by CARL MERTENS are true to the original and reflect this grand period in Austrian and European cultural history. It was not until 1661 that it reached the status it has retained to this today when Louis XIV extended and converted it in the style of the Baroque period. Starting in the 17th century, the best−known castle in the world along with the famous palace gardens became the model for a great many of European princes after which they erected they own castles. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. CARL MERTENS named one of their most precious Baroque−style sets of cutlery VERSAILLES, particularly because its artful craftsmanship is a reflection of the splendor found in its role 8 Carl Mertens Alt Faden The CARL MERTENS sample 0010 Alt Faden is a beautifully designed cutlery service that is both traditional and timeless and rooted in venerable blacksmithing tradition. Silver blacksmiths in August started to incorporate a fine silver wire to form the border of their spade−shaper flatware. This technique was referred to as Alt Faden or Augsburg Faden. This flatware is modelled after this type of workmanship and proves even today that traditional shapes never go out of style. Made of premium−grade 18/10 stainless steel, this flatware fits comfortably in your hand. Produced since: 1938 Offers: Stainless steel 30 pcs. 598 EUR 68 pcs. 1.460 EUR Silver plated 30 pcs. 1.426 EUR 68 pcs. 3.360 EUR Sterling silver 30 pcs. 4.902 EUR 68 pcs.11.960 EUR 9 Worpswede Stainless steel 30 pcs. 598 EUR 68 pcs. 1.460 EUR Silver plated 30 pcs. 1.426 EUR 68 pcs. 3.360 EUR Sterling silver 30 pcs. 4.902 EUR 68 pcs.11.960 EUR In 1889, a small group of painters settled in the small village of Worpswede near Bremen. They founded the artistic community Worpswede. Over the course of the next four decades, an increasing number of artists joined the community, in effect forming a second generation. Between 1890 and 1925, Worpswede bridged the gap between expressionism and the early Bauhaus period. This is the reason why Carl Mertens named the flatware model 1071, which they designed in 1932, Worpswede, as it merges traditional shapes at the onset of the "modern age" without adding any ornamentation. Produced since 1932. 10 Carl Mertens Sparta Sparta−a simple shape. A serrated blade with pointed teeth considerably increases the cutting ability and durability. 1954 Franz D. Güde 1983 Manager Dr. Karl−Peter Born, grandson of Franz Güde The History 20 Güde: The Knife Handmade Quality 21 22 23 24 Güde: The Knife THE KNIFE Complete set 295 EUR Even at first glance, it is clear that The Knife doesn’t have much in common with a conventional chef ’s knife. In fact, its seemingly short handle and noticeably large blade with a very wide back, which can only be achieved in a forged knife, are more reminiscent of a designer object. Nevertheless, as soon as you have actually worked with The Knife, you will realise that this isn’t just an example of breathtaking beauty, but also, and above all, a kitchen tool boasting unique handling. The Knife fits into your hand just like a professional chef holds a chef ’s knife, with your thumb and index finger forming a "U" and safely grasping the blade while your middle finger ’parks itself’ comfortably in the finely worked indentation at the back of the blade. The center of gravity therefore lies exactly in the palm of your hand and enables fatigue−free cutting. The fact that the knife contains nothing but flowing lines and no disturbing transitions automatically guarantees the right grasp and comfortable hand support at all times. Cooking with The Knife really is more enjoyable than just looking at it! 25 DAMASCUS STEEL Offers: 1 | Slicing knife 1.080 EUR 2 | Chef´s knife 1.249 EUR 3 | Santoku 1.570 EUR 4 | Bread knife 4.390 EUR 1| 2| 3| 4| Each Güde Damascus knife is individually crafted from two types of carbon tool steel, one tough and elastic, the other extremely hard, which are hammer forged together and folded over many times so that each knife finally consists of over 300 layers of steel. Forging knives of this traditional "Random Pattern" Damascus may take up to several days per knife and involves working the steel under a 1.5 ton mechanical hammer until each knife is forged to perfection. A further fifty steps in the production process are needed before each Güde Damascus Knife is at last completed. Each of these unique knives is individually fitted with grips of the finest fossilized Desert Ironwood. These knives are not stainless and must neve be cleaned in a dishwasher. 26 Güde: The Knife 1 | Chef’s Paring knife 2 | Slicing knife 3 | Meat fork 4 | Filet knife 5 | Chef’s knife 6 | Bread knife ALPHA Offers: Set K1 1 | Chef ’s pairing knife 2 | Slicing knife 5 | Chef ’s knife 6 | Bread knife 380 EUR Set K2 1 | Chef’s pairing knife 2 | Slicing knife 5 | Chef’s knife 214 EUR 1| 2| 3| 4| 5| 6| Set K3 3 | Meat fork 4 | Fillet knife 140 EUR 27 1 | Bread Knife 2 | Chef´s knife 3 | Slicing Knife 4 | Chef ’s Paring Knife Briccole di Venezia Set V1 1 | Bread knife 32 cm 2 | Chef’s knife 21 c 3 | Slicing knife 21 cm 4 | Chef’s pairing knife 10 cm 521,50 EUR Set V2 2 | Chef ’s knife 21 c 3 | Slicing knife 21 cm 4 | Chef ’s pairing knife 10 cm 326,50 EUR 1| 2| 3| 4| Made of premium stainless knife steel and perfected in more than 40 manual process steps in time honored Solingen tradition, the EDITION BRICCOLE DI VENEZIA is distinguished by the use of wood from Venetian gondola posts (Briccole).
