Dobbiaco (Toblach) Train Station
Dobbiaco (Toblach) Train Station
The construction of the Pustertaler Bahn railway from Lienz to Franzensfeste was
completed in record time: ten months. In November 1871, the railway was put into
public use. Various train stations and hotels found throughout the whole Pusteria
(Pustertal) Valley are reminders of those early days and of the valley’s boom in
tourism – among them Dobbiaco Train Station and the Dobbiaco Grand Hotel
opposite. Current use of Dobbiaco Train Station: A mountaineering school is using the
central block of the main building. There is a waiting room for train passengers, with
ticket machines. The rooms of the stationmaster are occupied, but only temporarily. In
the western wing of the building, there is a bar. A residence above the central building
serves as temporary lodging for railway employees.
