PRESTONWOOD
HOMEOWNERS
ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER
Spring 2016
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Neighbors,
I hope you have had a wonderful Spring because Summer will be here before
you know it. Most of us escaped these past rounds of storms without too
much damage, especially when you see what happened to our neighbors in
Plano and Wylie. This is a great time of year though to get your A/C company
out to tune up your system before the heat of the summer.
Speaking of the Summer, we have a lot of fantastic events planned. We
started things off with our annual Kite Fest which drew a great crowd,
especially with the on and off weather. The kids had fun flying kites, playing
ball, and dodging water balloons. We have a couple great events coming up
that you won’t want to miss - Music in the Park and the annual Fourth of July
Parade. We hope you can come out and meet your neighbors and enjoy both
of these. Please RSVP on www.prestonwood.net.
Our annual PID meeting is coming up on May 25th from 7-9pm at the
Brentfield Intermediate Cafeteria. Please join us to get an update on the PID
from this past year and looking into the upcoming year.
As always, the Prestonwood Board is always looking for more volunteers to
help out with the planning of events, neighborhood participation, and many
other areas. If you would like to participate by joining the board or just
volunteering at an event, please don’t hesitate to contact a board member.
The more the merrier!
See you at Music in the Park,
Chad Hooker

Aquatics Plan includes MAJOR changes to Fretz…
prepare for a lazy river!
Thanks to HOA board members Beth
Lavercombe and Robert Coner who attended the
aquatic design center meeting. Some highlights
include that Fretz Recreation Center pool at
Hillcrest and Beltline:

Will have 3 parts- a lap pool, activity pool
with a lazy river, and a children's pool with
play structure

Each part will have a separate filtration and
sanitation system

The City plans to keep as many of the
existing trees as possible and build in as
much shade as possible

This regional facility will be designed to
handle 500-600 guests

Slides of rendering have been posted to the
Dallas Parks website http://
dallasaquatics.org/DocumentCenter/
View/165

There will be another meeting in a few
months to review the design when it is refined

Construction is proposed to start May 2017 and finish May 2018
What is in the upcoming
Richardson ISD Bond?
There will be a RISD Bond election Sat, May 7 (early voting April 25 – May 3) for
the bond amount of $437,085,000. That breaks down to include $215.7 million
for maintenance of existing infrastructure, technology & equipment, $107.3 million
for construction, capacity & renovation (new classrooms at existing schools & a
new elementary school in the Lake Highlands area) and $114.1 million for enrichment [includes $60 million for four indoor athletic fields (primarily for football practice), one at each High School). The construction expenditures would include
Prestonwood Elementary and Richardson High School as well.
This bond vote will be one proposition (for or against vote with no voter ability to
differentiate among projects. The component projects have already been chosen. No changes will be made unless the Bond doesn’t pass. RISD currently has the third lowest tax levy among the 28 school districts in Dallas and Collin Counties due to it offering taxpayers a local optional homestead exemption (info from RISD). If the bond
passes, the goal would be to pay back 50% within 10 years or less. If the bond is not approved, the planning committee will review
the projects, make changes and probably have another Bond Election in November 2016.
If approved by voters, the Bond package will increase school taxes. The tax rate will increase by a maximum of $.08 per $100 evaluation, or $138.95 a year on an average RISD home of $220,758 [these numbers are directly from RISD published materials].
Thanks to HOA board member Beth Lavercombe for providing great information from attending the review meeting. You can find more
information about the bond election at http://www.risd.org/group/aboutrisd/bond_2016.html.
