East Cobb Civic Association
Website: http://www.eastcobb.net/
Whitfield Woods Subdivision is a member of the East Cobb Civic Association (ECCA).
Past presidents of the ECCA include Tim Lee, and Sam Olens.
The association’s mission statement states:
“The East Cobb Civic Association brings individual homeowners and
associations together to promote and maintain the community,
lifestyle and camaraderie we moved to East Cobb to enjoy.”
Each month ECCA sends an email to its member’s representatives. The email has the
agenda for the monthly meeting that also includes a summary of activities within Cobb
County government that members should be aware of. ECCA meets on the last
Wednesday of each month. For WWHA, Bren Carson is our representative to ECCA.
+
When WWHA joined ECCA in 2003 it was to have the backing and counsel from ECCA
in a zoning matter with the developer of Dylans Glenn subdivision on Maybreeze road.
The developer needed a sewer line easement to have the outfall line enter and terminate
in Whitfield Woods. ECCA guided us through the commission hearings, and negotiations
with the developer. Rather than running the sewer line outfall between homes on Silver
Fir Court, we negotiated the line to run through the pool parking lot. That gave us a new
concrete section of the parking lot at the developer’s expense.
Since 2003 ECCA notified WWHA of developments that would impact our neighborhood.
Several years ago the northeast corner of Canton Highway and Shallowford Road, a
developer was proposing a QT-Convenience Store and gas station. That intersection has
bad traffic without a QT. The zoning hearing had ECCA, and WWHA in opposition. The
zoning was not granted by the commissioners.
ECCA also assisted WWHA negotiate the use of SPLOST funds to get our streets
repaved. The monthly email notice is sent to Bren Carson, who reviews it for any matters
that would be of interest to WWHA. If you would like these emails to be forwarded to you,
please let him know. [email protected]

All the food brought to the Progressive Potluck Dinner was delicious. Here are a couple of the
recipes:
Double Chocolate Caramel Trifle
Colleen Haseltine
A 9” x 13” pan of baked brownies (crushed)
1 large box chocolate pudding (following package directions – mixed with 3 cups milk)
1 regular size Cool Whip
1 bag mini chocolate chips
1 regular size bottle caramel syrup (I use the glass jar kind)
12 Rollo cups, cut up in fourths or halves.
Chocolate syrup
In large bowl mix chocolate pudding with milk until thickened Mix together with Cool Whip.
Set aside. Spread half of the brownie mix into a trifle bowl or large glass bowl. Pour half of
caramel syrup on top, gently drizzle chocolate syrup on top (I use maybe a half cup full). Top
with chocolate syrup mixture. Sprinkle with ½ bag of mini chocolate chips. Repeat with
brownies, syrups and Cool Whip mixture. Sprinkle top with remaining chocolate chips and
Rollo cups. You can also use peanut butter cups, etc. Serves about 20.
I usually drizzle chocolate syrup on top as well.

Donna Mau found her recipe for Bacon Wrapped Pineapple on Allrecipes.com. The link
for this recipe is: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/bacon-wrapped- pineapple/
Donna suggests going to the website to read some of the suggestions on how to prepare
this dish.
Recipe makes 24 appetizers
1/2 pound sliced bacon, cut into thirds
1 (20 ounce) can pineapple chunks in juice, drained
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup chili sauce
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Wrap each chunk of pineapple with a piece of bacon and secure with toothpicks.
Place in a shallow baking dish. In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar,
mayonnaise and chili sauce; pour over the bacon wrapped pineapple.
Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes in the preheated oven, until bacon is crispy on
the edges and the sauce is bubbly. Serve warm.

Yard of the
Month!
July 2015
Congratulations to the Simpsons at 4071 Silver Fir Court-May;
the Kalet’s at 4064 Silver Fir Court- June, and the Mau’s at 4045
Silver Fir Court - July. Who will the coveted Yard of the Month
designation go to in August??
If your yard is chosen to be YOM, you need to pick the next
month’s yard and move the sign.
Thanks for using American Disposal! To limit the number of trash trucks going through the
neighborhood, Whitfield Woods has negotiated a neighborhood rate with AMERICAN DISPOSAL
(previously Liberty). In order to get the rate, you must call and identify yourself as a homeowner in
this neighborhood. They provide a great service, and if Whitfield Woods increases to 90% usage,
they provide free pool trash service, which saves our community hundreds of $ a year.

Cobb EMC hosted their semi-annual Homeowners Association Forum in April 2015. By attending
as a representative of WWHA, WWHA received a credit of $50 toward our electric account. In
addition to an informative presentation, we experienced a Hot Line Electrical Safety Demonstration.
The demonstration was amazing-and scary!
If you know of a school, church, or other organization that would like to see this Hot Line Electrical
Safety demonstration, you can call Cobb EMC and they will schedule a time to bring the
demonstration to your facility.

Theft in the Neighborhood
This Spring, we had new LED lighting installed at the front entrance. A thief must have noticed the
improved lights, because soon thereafter, several of the new light fixtures were stolen. A few nights
later, the rest of the light fixtures were stolen. The $ value was not enough to file a claim with the
insurance company. Be aware that thieves are always on the lookout for easy targets. Lock your
doors, cars, etc. and report suspicious behavior.
