Chair Persons’ Welcome Letter
We are excited to welcome you to the 53rd anniversary of the Junior Orange Bowl International
Championship! We welcome you to celebrate this milestone with us as you grace our courts with
your youthful enthusiasm and talent. You will be following in the footsteps of many professional
players, such as our 2013 Honorary Chairperson, Andy Murray, who won the Junior Orange Bowl
International Championship Boys 12’s in 1999. There is a long list of professionals who have showcased
their skills at our tournament including Jimmy Connors, Mary Joe Fernandez, Monica Seles, Andre
Agassi and Steffi Graf. Added to the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Legacy are Roger Federer, Andy Roddick,
Juan Martin del Potro, Robin Soderling, Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin, Melanie Oudin, Caroline Wozniaki,
Novak Djokovic and Bernard Tomic.
We are extremely grateful to the City of Coral Gables, who has been our host partner for over fifty years
and who has enabled us to grow into this world recognized event! We are both honored to provide the
opportunity for you to compete, display good sportsmanship, and enjoy South Florida hospitality.
We wish you success…but most importantly, a memorable and rewarding experience!
Best wishes,
Abby Dresnick and Barbara Waters

Hello Friends of the Junior Orange Bowl,
On behalf of the Junior Orange Bowl Committee
and our Board of Directors I want to welcome you to
the 53rd Annual Junior Orange Bowl International
Tennis Championship. Every year, the Junior Orange
Bowl Tennis Tournament attracts the biggest and
most talented 12 & under and 14 & under players in
the world. Our tournament has a storied past with
many great players that have gone onto successful
careers playing collegiate and professional tennis.
Our participants have gone onto win at many of
the Tennis Grand Slam Events. For years, the
Junior Orange Bowl has captured the top tennis
players throughout the world before their fame
and it is a tremendous opportunity for our organization to see these athletes play so young. Of course,
our tournament cannot be possible without the
tremendous support of our sponsors. In addition,
our tournament is owed a tremendous debt
of gratitude to our tennis committee chairs, directors,
their committee members and the countless
volunteers that help with the planning and
implementation of tournament.
To our participants, I say “Good Luck!” as you compete
and I look forward to a wonderful competition that
displays true sportsmanship, athleticism and passion.
Have a wonderful tournament and see you at the finals!
Sincerely,
Peter Tolmach

Internationally Acclaimed Artist and Philanthropist
Rosario “Chary” Rico-Toro
Rosario “Chary” Rico-Toro artist/philanthropist and former runner up to
Miss Universe in 1990, the Bolivian born beauty Chary seeks a dual purpose
through her latest artistic venture. Her art serves to inspire an appreciation
for the bold and geometric expressions on canvas, while aspiring to bring
awareness to the underprivileged youth of Bolivia.
Native to Bolivia and witness to the country’s thousands in dire poverty,
Chary founded the INTI Foundation in 2010 to address the needs of Bolivian
children with the intent to bring them a better way of life. The word “inti”
is the native Quechua language equivalent for the word “sun” and serves
as the Foundation’s metaphor to “bring light” to the dire issues facing the
children of Bolivia today. The INTI Foundation has had substantial success
in helping to serve this population by providing safe housing development
for orphans, health and human service resources and overall community
stabilization in specific parts of the country.
Chary utilizes her artistic talents to promote the message of the INTI
Foundation, “Different Children, Different Needs,” and to fundraise for the
programs and projects in her native home. Through the sale of her paintings
and donations she has raised approximately $75,000 to support the
Foundation’s initiatives. All of the proceeds from her paintings support the
projects and programs that serve Bolivian youth.
“My artistic muse was inspired from an early age,” says Chary. “Much of
my youth was spent in the Catholic Church and I was intrigued by the bold
colors and geometric patterns of the beautiful stained glass windows in
the cathedrals. These memories are translated on my canvas today as an
expression of hope for Bolivian youth. I wish to convey a child’s joyful take
on life through the bright colors in my work and transfer that joy to my
exhibition viewers.”
While having participated in solo and multi-artist shows in the local and
international markets, Chary is very proud to be selected as the Artist for
the 2014 Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship.

2014 HONORARY
CHAIRPERSON
To this day, Martina – more than anyone else – is known for taking
women’s tennis to an entirely new level with her speed, aggression,
and fitness. She has left an enduring legacy of excellence highlighted
by 59 Grand Slam titles, including a record 9 Wimbledon singles
championships, as well as an insurmountable 344 total tournament victories.
Over the years, Martina has received numerous accolades, including “Tour
Player of the Year,” the Associated Press “Female Athlete of the Year,” a
listing on ESPN’s “Top 40 Athletes of All Time,” and an induction into the
International Tennis Hall of Fame as “the game’s most prolific winner.”
But every bit as important as Martina’s success on the tennis court was
her courage outside the lines. A lifelong crusader for individual freedom,
at age 18, Martina took the bold step of leaving her native land to seek
asylum in the United States. By 1981, she had become a U.S. citizen. As
one of the first openly gay sports figures, Martina has spent much of her
career overcoming prejudices and stereotypes. Since coming out, Martina
has been a vocal advocate for equal rights and a strong supporter of many
charities, which directly benefit the LGBT community.

One of the most incredible athletes and cultural figures in recent history,
Martina Navratilova is arguably the most dominant tennis player to ever
step foot on the courts. Born October 18, 1956, in Prague, Czechoslovakia,
Martina had a burning desire that she first articulated at the age of 8: to be
the best player in the world. She never let go of that dream and eventually
became the only player to win a Grand Slam in four different decades,
including a curtain-closing US Open victory at age 49. Martina played
tennis with a singular energy, passion and emotion.
In 2010, Martina faced her toughest opponent – breast cancer. It was
treated successfully with a lumpectomy and radiation. She approached
the cancer treatments as she did her tennis opponents – with a mixture of
determination and raw power. Martina is now an advocate for preventive
screening and regular checkups.
Martina continues to play tournaments and work in a wide range of areas.
She serves as Health & Fitness Ambassador for AARP and recently raced
alongside NASCAR drivers in the AARP Drive to End Hunger. Her work as
analyst and commentator for Tennis Channel takes her around the world
every year to cover the Grand Slams. Martina’s strong voice and open views
make her a highly sought-after speaker at events and presentations for
international companies and organizations. Whether the topic is fitness or
politics, human equality or animal rights, she remains refreshingly candid
and admirably committed.
