PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mark Mueller led the Pledge of Allegiance CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: Chairman Bob Scruggs Chairman Scruggs reported on the recent Leadership Forum meeting and gave updates from the City, County, JCPS, and Lincoln University. TREASURER’S REPORT: **Treasurer Roger Dudenhoeffer Financial Reports: January 2012 Roger Dudenhoeffer reviewed the January financial report and highlighted the following items: Chamber of Commerce Page 2 – Membership - Renewals – The total shown in this account combines deferred dues of 2011 in the amount of $103,136.99 and January renewals of $116,383.87. This is down nearly $8,000 from 2011 when January’s total for this account was $227,423. Deferred dues were $110,357 and renewals were $117,065. Page 2 – Civic Progress – The total of $21,000 represents dues paid for 2012 thus far. Committee members pay $500 each year to participate on the Civic Progress committee. 1 Page 2 – Leadership J.C. – Revenue reflects tuition payments from participants and session support from sponsors. 21st Century Land Investment Page 8 - Funds were transferred to the Chamber and J.C. Properties - $25,000 to the Chamber for first quarter economic development support and $4,930.00 to J.C Properties to cover insurance expenses. This is shown as income on the respective income statements; page 2 and page 10. JC Chamber Properties Nothing noteworthy to report A motion was made by Linda McAnany and seconded by Bill Plank to accept the Financial Report. Motion approved without objection. CONSENT AGENDA: ** Board Minutes: January 2012 Membership Report: January 2012 The January minutes will be corrected to show that Gus Wagner was in attendance at the January meeting. A motion to approve the consent agenda items, (as corrected) was made by Eric Schulte and seconded by Gus Wagner. Motion approved without objection. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Existing Business Report – Shaun Sappenfield Existing Business Manager, Shaun Sappenfield, gave a brief history of the Incentive Task Force Committee, formed in 2008, emphasizing its purpose. He reported that of the potential expansion projects identified in 2011, four companies (Modern Litho-Print, Scholastic Inc., DeLong’s Inc. and RR Donnelley) have or are expanding. He listed the financial investment, number of jobs created, and incentives applied for each of the projects. Total financial investment for the four companies is $6M and new jobs created total 200. Mr. Sappenfield noted 5 additional potential expansion projects which, if they come to fruition, will represent $97.5M new investment and 216+ new jobs. There was discussion about various incentives, the definition of an enhanced enterprise zone and its uses, and how potential business expansions are identified, and net job growth in the community . 2 2. Transform JC Membership Survey Report – Randy Allen President/CEO Randy Allen presented results from the Transform JC Survey. Of the 1,800 surveys sent to Chamber members, 675 were returned. 361 of the respondents had voted in the election on Feb. 7th. President Allen’s presentation included a breakdown of the votes, reasons listed for voting yes or no, demographic information provided by the respondents, and levels of support for the various projects. He also reported on the phone survey made to voters. There was a great deal of discussion about the survey results and Chairman Scruggs’ question, “Where do we go from here?” No consensus was reached as to the Board’s next steps. The Steering Committee’s meeting is set for Wed., Feb. 28. No formal action will taken until after the Steering Committee meets.
