PLAR For Mature Students
Prior Learning Assessment Recognition
A formal evaluation and accreditation process for secondary school adult learners to achieve recognition for their prior
learning towards completion of diploma requirements.
What is PLAR?
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is the formal evaluation and credit-granting process through which
mature students may obtain credits for prior learning - the knowledge and skills that adults have acquired, in both
formal and informal ways, outside secondary school.
The PLAR process for mature students involves three procedures:
• Individual assessment/equivalency (Gr. 9/10)
• Equivalency (Gr. 11/12)
• Challenge (Gr. 11/12)
There is no charge for mature students to participate in the PLAR process.

Adobe Photoshop
Software for your Digital Camera Pictures (Adobe Photoshop CS2)
Today, digital photography has superceded film photography and the power of digital media is exponentially increasing
what the average person can do with their photographs. Today we can simply turn on our computers, load Adobe
Photoshop CS2 (Creative Suite 2) and in minutes edit our imperfect digital pictures into superb photographs. In this
beginner course you will learn the basic skills to get you comfortable with the Adobe Photoshop CS2 interface and the
use of the tools and palettes. The focus of this course is to show you the skills that the average digital photographer
would find useful every day in an entirely hands-on environment. Since Adobe Photoshop CS2 is identical on both a
Macintosh and a PC, it doesn’t matter what computer you have at home, the skills are fully transferrable. In addition
you will learn about the qualities of a good digital camera and what would be the best choice for your needs.
So what can I do?
• Did Aunt Sally miss the family photo at your recent reunion? If you had digitized photos,
you could add her in from another photograph and then print a copy of the whole family
together.
• Do you have an excellent picture of your son except for that person walking past in the
background? If the picture is digital, you could remove that person with no noticeable
traces.
• Did you ever want to add text, adjust the colours to a scene, add more trees to a picture,
enhance the clarity, eliminate red-eye, make photo-collages, or simply just play with
photographs?
For maximum benefit you should have access to a home computer with Photoshop CS2.
