Dermot Mahoney`s Inaugural Ireland Tour February 21
Dermot Mahoney’s Inaugural Ireland Tour
February 21-28, 2016
Sun, 21: Depart the USA on your overnight flight to Dublin, Ireland.
Mon, 22: Upon arrival in Dublin Airport this morning you will be met by your private Driver Guide. Relax
in your luxury vehicle as you drive towards Athlone to visit the oldest pub in Ireland, Sean’s of Athlone.
Continue on to Kinnitty Castle in Birr, County Offaly, where you will enjoy an overnight stay. Settle in this
afternoon and perhaps enjoy some horse riding on the castle estate. This evening our group will enjoy a
special welcome dinner in the castle!
Tues, 23: After breakfast we depart the castle and drive west to Galway City for a 2-night stay at the
Harbour Hotel. En route to Galway, we will visit the Cliff of Moher & the Burren region, maybe stop at
Gus O’Connor’s in Doolin for lunch or just a pint by the turf fire! Continue on to Galway City, “The City of
the Tribes” a bustling university town with fantastic history and culture. This lively town has no shortage
of good pubs and restaurants. Galway City is famous for the arts, including crafts, performance theatre,
and traditional Irish music. Enjoy shopping, restaurants and the arts for which Galway is famous for. This
evening, take in some traditional Irish music and a few pints in the best of Galway City’s pubs.
Wed, 24: Under the continued care of your driver guide, tour Connemara. From the rugged Twelve Bens
mountain range to the golden beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll know you’re in Connemara by
the light that constantly changes the mood of the landscape. Drive through Leenane and the beautiful
Delphi Valley, an area hit particularly hard by the famine in the 1800’s.
The scenery and history in this region will leave you in awe. Enjoy stopping in little villages along the
way, meeting locals and exploring the fine pubs as you go. This evening, take in some traditional Irish
music and a few pints at one of Galway City’s pubs.
Thurs, 25: Drive north today through County Mayo & Sligo. The beautiful landscapes and folk lore of
Sligo inspired poet William Butler Yeats, and Sligo is aptly known as Yeats Country. Explore Drumcliff, the
churchyard where Yeats is buried and where you may read his epitaph: “Cast a Cold Eye on Life, On
Death Horseman Pass By!” Stop in a local pub for lunch before continuing on to County Tyrone. Enjoy an
overnight stay in Corick House Hotel & Spa just a mile from where our own Dermot Mahoney was
reared!
Fri, 26: After a leisurely morning in Corick House, you’ll drive south towards Dublin City for a 2-night stay
in Buswells Hotel. Upon arrival in Dublin, visit Jameson Distillery for tour & tasting then enjoy a guided
tour of the Guinness Storehouse and a taste of the real thing right from the source! Continue to your
hotel for check in and say goodbye to your driver guide. After enjoying dinner at your leisure in one of
Dublin’s many restaurants, continue on to Cobblestones Pub for some traditional Irish music!
Sat, 27: Today we recommend taking a ‘Hop On-Hop Off’ double decker open top bus tour of the city;
it’s the best way to get around and see all the sights at your own pace. Or if you like to walk Dublin is
small and tightly contained and is very easy to get around on foot. Highlights include Trinity College and
the Book of Kells, Temple Bar, Stephen’s Green, Grafton Street, Dublin Castle, The Dublin Writer’s
Museum, The Museum of Ireland, The Jameson Distillery, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and much more.
Sun, 28: After a good Irish breakfast, enjoy your private transfer to Dublin Airport to prepare for your
return flight home to the US. Slan Abhaile!
