The awe-inspiring panoramic mountain views from Pikes Peak to Wyoming would be enough to earn this the title of
“Denver’s Most Phenomenal Penthouse.” But the nearly 360 degree views that encompass the entire Denver Skyline,
City Park, Zoo and peaks of Denver International Airport to name just a few of our unique panoramas, put this over the
top in every comparison. What makes this exquisite customized “Architectural Digest” quality space most unique is
the ability to access these magnificent view from 183’ of floor to ceiling windows and almost 800’ of inviting terraces.
Created from the shell of two-thirds of the top floor (27th) of the fabulous Pinnacle building, the dramatic spaces,
private access, incomparable quality of the finishes and unparalleled amenities put it in a class of its own. Nothing
touches the drama of entering the Great Room with its 20’ ceilings and its stunning views.

The other hallmark of February is of course, Valentine’s Day. That
one special day out of the year to express your heartfelt love and
gratitude to those you care about most. Ahem. Scratch that. I mean,
the one day out of the year that you can get in trouble for not actually
expressing your heartfelt love and gratitude to the one you love.
Not to fret. There are so many unique ways to celebrate the ones
you love, so think outside of the red roses and heart-shaped chocolate box. Send a non-traditional bouquet like a potted plant, a
bonsai tree or a crafty origami bouquet that will last forever (these
work for guys too!). Or plan a family Valentine’s date, day or
night, and order pizza and play games at home. And there are no
shortage of ideas on Pinterest that will either inspire you, or make
you feel completely inadequate as a gift-giver and party-planner.
It's usually the latter for me! Whatever the
case for you, have a lovely February!
With Love,
Lizzy and Sarah

winter! The terrific thing about living in Colorado is
that winter is what the majority of those living here
look forward to the most. Many of you head up the hills every

more to maintain your sanity on the crowded drive home.

A CALL TO
ACTION!
From the very first issue of Cherry Hills Village Living, our goal
has been to bring your community together by sharing news
and events that are important to you and interesting to others!
Below are some ways you can be involved:
MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS – Have you always wished you knew
your neighbors better? Well, each month, in this section, we put
the spotlight on one family from the neighborhood. They tell us
whatever they’d like for us to get to know them better and we
send out a professional photographer to do a photo shoot—for
free! So, why not make it your family for the next issue or how
about you review your friend’s family?
PRECIOUS PETS – We all know that our pets are members of the
family! If you have a pet and want them to be famous, just get
them in the Precious Pets section. Come one, come all—dogs,
cats, lizards, horses or whatever!
RESIDENT RECIPE – We are looking for foodies! Share some of your
tried and true dishes or daring experiments! Give us the ingredients, directions, and the story behind this dish. Tell us if this is your
kids’ favorite or the one your mom used to make, we want to know!
For the visual chefs out there, send a picture along with your recipe!
NeighborhoodNews
15
KIDS 2 KIDS – Is your kid funny, interesting, inspiring, or tal-
ented? Each month, we like to profile a junior member of the
community to celebrate the next generation! Make your kid the
rock star of the neighborhood by sharing how awesome they are
in our Kids 2 Kids section.
CELEBRATE YOUR FAMILY – Do you want another way to recog-
nize or congratulate your kids or family members about any sport,
academic, or other achievement? Put it in Cherry Hills Village Living! Submissions should include high-resolution pictures along
with what they achieved (e.g. Black belt, honor roll, straight A’s,
scholarships, state champs, volunteer work, promotions, graduation,
music, theatre milestones) or just wish them happy birthday!
NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – This section features any activity
going on in the neighborhood or surrounding area such as
parades, block parties, barbecues, neighborhood cleanups, school
picnics, fundraisers, pool parities, or golf events. We want to
know what is going on and what has happened with these social
events; so, keep us in the loop!
TRAVEL TALES – Have you been somewhere amazing lately—
near or far? Share with us about a recent vacation you or your
family took that was one for the books. We want details of your
adventures, the food, the sights, the people, and pictures!
PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES! – Need we say more? Send us
high-resolution pics of your everyday life with you, your friends
and family for the Around Neighbors photo section!

What a treat for residents of Cherry Hills Village
and neighboring communities to attend the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony! It may have been a cold night, but many families came out to watch Mayor Laura Christman and Santa light
the tree lights. Everyone enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate
around the fire and had the opportunity for a horse-drawn carriage ride and face painting. The children were so excited to sit
with Santa and tell him their wishes, you couldn’t help but feel
full of special Holiday cheer!

Favorite Food: I love going to Mod Market because it has the
best tasting sandwiches. My favorite sandwich is the chicken basil
panini but my favorite food is mango. I fight with my brother over
mangos in the house because it’s his favorite food too.
Favorite Sports Teams: The Broncos and Rockies.
Any funny stories? When I was just about to turn 2, my Mom
had another baby, a girl. Even though I couldn’t talk very much, I
showed everyone in my family how I did NOT like having a baby
in the house! I wouldn’t touch her or stand near her for one year!
And when my parents tried to get me to sit next to her, I would
scream bloody murder! Fortunately, I got used to her and now I
love (sometime not so much!) having a younger sister!

switch too, so look into a new option this spring if you want to
help the gentle honey bee.
Here is a great recipe to try!
What: Honey facial scrub
Here’s what you need:
Baking soda – 1 tablespoon
Organic honey – ½ tablespoon
Lavender essential oil – 1 drop
Add the first two ingredients together until it becomes pastelike then add the lavender essential oil. To open up your pores,
place a warm wet washcloth over your face. Using the paste-like
facial scrub and using small circular motion, rub very gently on
your face. Let it stay for around 3-5 minutes before washing it
off with warm water.

You can also use this for an all over body scrub to remove dry

The Buzzzzz On The Honey Bees
In Cherry Hills Village
Submitted by resident Chelsea Harding
How many bees do you have? We have over 20 thousand bees!
They love buzzing all around Old Cherry Hills and visiting
everyone’s beautiful flower gardens and getting the most wonderful pollen. Bees travel up to 3 miles to get nectar and pollen.
They typically visit 30-50 flowers during a trip.
Where do they live? Our bees live in a top bar bee-hive. It is a
wooden bee-hive that opens from the top to easily pull out the
bar of honeycomb. My husband found the plans online and
built it for us. The hive is located in a corner in our backyard,
tucked back a bit. In choosing a spot for your bee-hive look for
a site that receives plenty of sunshine throughout the day and
has good air circulation.
How is the honey? Our bees make the most amazingly tasty honey! It is very sweet and great for SO many things. Local honey
is great for allergies, for face masks and hair treatments. Did you
know that honey is the only food that humans eat that an insect
produces. Buy only organic!
Have you been stung? YES! I have only been stung three times.
And it hurts! They don't look to sting you, only when you are
working in the hive and accidentally grab one. Only worker
bee's sting and actually die once they have stung you.
What about the queen bee? The queen arrived in her own little
special box separated from the other bees. The queen can live
up to five years. She is busiest in the summer months, when she
can lay up to 2,500 eggs a day!
What do you like most about your bees? We love to grab a cup of
coffee and watch them. It is really interested to see how they
interact with each other, how they fly from flower to flower and
come back with colorful pollen on their legs.
Why did you decide to get bees as a pet? Our family loves to be as
natural as possible. That is part of the reason we wanted to live
in Cherry Hills with a bit of land. We wanted to be able to have
chickens, bees and a large garden to be able to take care of our
family and know that we aren't eating chemicals! I am an aesthetician and herbalist and use honey and beeswax in remedies
for organic skincare, tinctures and all over wellness
Did you know that bees are in trouble and they need your help!
The large use of chemicals and pesticides in our yards, tree's
and flowers are killing the bees! Bees pollinate our food and if
there are no bees, there will be no food. The simplest way, if you
want to help bees is to plant more flowers, a garden and not to
use pesticides in our yards. There are many organic choices to

By resident Alice Abrams
"Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye!”
Let it be known that this is a “Love Letter" from an admirer…
not given just on “Valentine’s Day,” but on every other Tuesday
at 6:30 PM throughout the year in our own Cherry Hills Village City Center.
Valentine’s Day is a marketing strategy of extraordinary success that has cast the card companies, the post office, the online
advertising giants as well as the worldwide floral industry to
happily activate the love-awakening seeds that sprout forth for
all to recall and promote that “special feeling.”
That special feeling…“LOVE”… a caring… an acknowledgement of wonder and awe for someone, something, that makes
life more meaningful. No matter the crass commercial origin…I
still love the concept.
The RED color …the heart beating non-stop in each of us…says,
“Hey, pause for a moment and let it be known that I care about you.”
Known and unknown admirers receive cards, phone calls, hugs
and kisses. FaceTime clicks are alerted. E-mails, messages
and tweets are sent via the cloud. School children exchange
thoughtful messages. Celebrations are arranged…and I take to
my keyboard and write a letter of admiration to seven people
who represent us on the City Council of Cherry Hills Village.
Our vote for each one was a mini love note on election day. We
chose Council members: Mike Gallagher, Mark Griffin, Alex
Brown, Klasina Vanderwerf, Katy Brown, Earl Hoellen and
Mayor Laura Christman to represent us as dedicated volunteers.
I should capitalize the word “VOLUNTEER.” Each member of
the Council spends extraordinary amounts of time performing
the caring tasks of watching over the growth and development
of the environment in which we all live.
Their secret love of our community travels deeply into the “Blue
Ribbon Vision Report” of the City of Cherry Hills Village.

PINKIES OUT!
Aspen Wealth Planners gets to know you and your personal situation. With our two-step interview process, we take time to evaluate your needs to see if we are a good match before any papers
are signed or fees are paid. Once a new client is accepted we go
through each significant part of a client’s financial situation:
Written by resident and Mothers of
Boys member, Sarah Dennis
Anyone that has met me knows that I
am from England from my accent. And
we English just love our TEA! When my
mum and dad visited in the summer,
I bought a new box of tea bags and
they managed to drink all 80 cups in
one week! I also drink a lot of tea. My
favorite type is called Rooibos, which I
bring back from England, or I get anyone
that visits me to bring at least six boxes
with them. It’s a type of tea from South
Africa and it translates as “Red Bush.”
Insurance review, estate review, portfolio analysis, Investment
recommendations, tax planning and preparation goal setting,
retirement planning and college funding.
We believe that an ongoing relationship is the best way service
our clients. Financial planning is a dynamic process with the
occasional bump in the road. We walk with you as life changes
and complications arise preventing them from becoming big
problems. We work on a fixed retainer basis so you don’t have
to worry about hourly charges when you need help. You get the
confidence that comes with continued support for your most
important questions.
Anyway, an invitation came out from the
Mothers of Boys for 10 lucky members to
sign up for a Holiday Tea at the Brown Palace. I think I was probably the first to sign
up. Ready for a little reminder of home.
Unfortunately, the full Afternoon Tea
is no longer a tradition in homes across
England. It is saved for special occasions
and tourism in tearooms and hotels. Partaking of Afternoon Tea now probably
consists of a cup of tea in a mug and a
Digestive biscuit on the side! The Digestive biscuit is ideal for dunking into a cup
of hot tea, because it doesn’t break apart
easily when it gets wet and then sink to
the bottom of the mug. (You can buy
these at World Market if you want to try
for yourself !) However, who could resist
the opportunity to enjoy tea in a proper
teapot the posh way?
I can really recommend this holiday
tradition if you haven’t done it before.
Everyone gets dressed up, listens to the
gentle piano playing and enjoys finger
sandwiches, including the delicately delicious cucumber sandwiches. This is followed by pastries and of course, scones,
jam and cream.
27
Regarding making a good cup of tea, others may argue with me, but I am a “milk in
the teacup first” person when making tea
in a teapot. However, if you are making
tea with a teabag in a mug, you need to put
the milk in afterwards, because otherwise
the milk cools down the water, which must
be boiling for the tea to brew properly.
But when it is made in a teapot, you can
tip the tea straight into the milk in the
cup, once it has brewed. Got it? Don’t forget to use a tea strainer to make sure the
tealeaves don’t float around in your teacup!
Now, to prepare your scone. Cut it in
half. Spread the strawberry jam on each
half of the scone and then put a good
dollop of cream on top of the jam. Then
eat. Delicious! I was happy to give the
ladies a scone preparation lesson before
we started, just to make sure everyone
knew what they were doing. The cream
at the Brown Palace is Devonshire cream
but it is not Devonshire CLOTTED
cream, which is much thicker and full of
fat. Should you ever go to England, don’t
think about the calories when you eat
it! I have seen it available in small jars in
Whole Foods, but any cream that lasts
literally months, I am a bit anxious about!
So, the ladies of the Mothers of Boys
thoroughly enjoyed their tea and yes, we
did wash it all down with just one Kir
Royale each. All that was left to do was
to raise our pinkies (probably for no other
reason than you can’t get all your fingers
into the little handle of the tea cup!) and
take a sip of tea.
Thank you Sandi Johnson and Eileen
McCoy from the Mothers of Boys for
organising this treat. Hopefully it will be
an annual tradition.
(You will have to excuse the English
spellings for this feature, but I thought it
rather appropriate, darling!)

Dear Cherry Hills Village Residents,
What began in 1886 as a one-room
schoolhouse on a dirt path that
later became Quincy Avenue, has
now grown into an award-winning
elementary school that has served generations of village residents.
Each year Cherry Hills Village Elementary faces a large financial
gap that threatens the quality of our children’s education, and so,
each year we alternate our fundraising efforts between a school
auction, and our Family Giving Campaign. This year the PTCO
is running The Family Giving Campaign where our goal is to raise
the funds needed to maintain the academic excellence that continues to be one of the driving factors in making Cherry Hills Village
a desirable place to live.
For the past 12 years, Cherry Hills Village Elementary School
has been awarded the John Irwin School of Excellence Award.

American Heart Association: Broadening The Dialogue About Women’s Heart Health
Written by Rosslyn Elliott, Vice President, Public Affairs at DCP Midstream
Corporate philanthropy, mission,
volunteering, and neighborhood camaraderie
coalesced on Friday, Nov. 19 when Cherry
Hills Village residents Wouter and Yolanda
van Kempen and Jennifer Jacobsen joined
to support the American Heart Association’s
Go Red For Women event. They were
accompanied by DCP president Brian
Frederick and his wife, Amy, whose daughter
attends high school in Cherry Hills Village.
The event spotlighted the preventable risks
that women face from heart and stroke disease,
and it showcased 12 women who embarked
upon a three-month Better U program to
become more heart healthy.
“It’s a fact that over 90 percent of women
have a chance to develop one or more risks
of heart disease, all of which are largely
preventable,” said Wouter, DCP Midstream’s chairman and CEO, and chair
of Denver’s American Heart Association.
“Heart and stroke disease is the number
one killer of women, and it outnumbers all
the next five causes combined.”
Wouter and Yolanda’s commitment to the
American Heart Association is not found-
ed directly upon personal circumstances.
“We’re fortunate that as a family we have
not been affected by heart and stroke
disease. We are active as a family and
ensure we are making healthy choices,”
added Yolanda. Recently, the van Kempens
hosted a Cor Vitea event at their home
featuring Dr. Richard Collins of the South
Denver Cardiology Center, known best
as “the Cooking Cardiologist” to educate
major donors on heart healthy cooking.
Cor Vitea means “for life” and represents
a major giving level of contribution to the
American Heart Association.
Wouter’s commitment extends to his role
as CEO and chairman of DCP Midstream, the largest oil and gas company
headquartered in Denver, with a footprint
in 17 states. “These same risk factors
affect our employees with over threequarters having risk for developing heart
and stroke disease. We began a comprehensive company wellness program that
has resulted in significantly reduced risk,
and also from a business perspective,
reduced health costs for the company and
our employees.”
Achieving the American Heart Association’s recent platinum “Fit Friendly
Company” national status, DCP
employs a wide array of initiatives and
incentives to promote heart health.
“Some of us get competitive about our
health score numbers, trying to best our
peers on cholesterol scores. Knowledge
is empowering and as family and as a
company, I’m seeing us make important life choices about health with our
greater awareness,” said Wouter.
DCP Midstream’s involvement with the
American Heart and Stroke Association is
deep. Wouter serves on its Board of Directors and became chairman in July and several of DCP Midstream’s leaders are executive volunteers with the Association. In
total, DCP has contributed approximately
$4.5 million nationally to the Association,
and is the largest Heart Walk contributor
in the United States. The recent Go Red
For Women event raised $400,000.

together, and it was love at first relevé. They left the studio that
day and set plans in motion to take their newfound love and
business acumen to open their own high-energy barre studio to
help other women look and feel their best.
In 2012, Jen and Nadia’s entrepreneurial dreams came true
when they opened their first barre studio on East Hampden
Avenue in south Denver. Originally established as The Body
Barre, the studio – now Barre Forte – has expanded to locations
in Highlands Ranch, Westminster and even Gainesville, Florida
through a unique licensing model that helps fitness entrepreneurs open studios of their own.
In just 60 minutes, Barre Forte’s ballet-inspired workouts can
burn between 400-600 calories using a combination of fat
burning interval training, muscle-carving strength training and
isometric holds that exhaust the muscles. Each section of the
workout is followed by stretching to result in a long, lean and
sculpted physique. The workout is low-impact and designed to
benefit people of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels.
“Owning and instructing at a barre fitness studio has allowed
me a wonderful work-life balance where I get to do what I
love and help women feel better about themselves,” said Jen.
“Women are much stronger than they realize, and it is incredibly rewarding to see them accomplish things they never thought
they could. It's also very nice to be able to run a business and
still have plenty of time to enjoy being a mother.”
Imagine what we could design for you.

In addition to dance-inspired group fitness classes, Barre Forte
also offers a nationally recognized teacher certification program,
which has certified over 100 instructors. It is a comprehensive,
two-day program taught that is one of the best in the nation.
Aspiring barre instructors learn barre principles, choreography,
body alignment and exercises.

participants can purchase a class package or monthly-unlimited

Additionally, Barre Forte is offering free, donation-based classes
every Friday at 4:30 p.m. at their Southmoor/Cherry Hills
