While biking to work might not be feasible for all employees, by offering our Ride To Work program, you are encouraging your employees to be active stewards of their personal and environmental health, which can help your company in ways you may not realize. WHY BE BIKE FRIENDLY? Public bicycle sharing programs are the newest and most innovative form of public transportation to hit the streets in decades. Encouraging your staff to utilize bike sharing as a part of their daily commute is a great way to promote a sustainable urban transportation initiative and create a healthier, more productive workforce. Just as important, businesses can significantly reduce their costs and headaches associated with employee and guest parking. DECOBIKE is here to help deliver these great benefits at no cost for your business thanks to federal bicycle commuter incentives! Introducing the DECOBIKE Ride to Work Program. Our Ride to Work program gives your employees the freedom to use DECOBIKE throughout their workday as a quick and simple way to get to and from the workplace, as well as the fastest way to run errands around town. DECOBIKE puts 1,000 bicycles at their fingertips, 24/7. With approximately 100 stations located from South Beach to North Beach, getting around the city has never been easier. DECOBIKE’s Ride to Work program is not only a great way to energize and motivate your employees, but also a proven way to cut down on insurance 4 3 • • • • • • No more commuting nightmares Improve employee health Parking bliss Increase efficiency Better employees Incentives Best of all, being bike-friendly reduces and offsets your company’s carbon footprint and promotes a positive urban community impact while generating unparalleled goodwill for your organization. OUR RIDE TO WORK™ MEMBERSHIP PROGRAMS COMMUTER TAX BENEFIT PROGRAM The Bicycle Commuter Act is a simple solution to put cyclists on the same footing as people who receive qualified federal transportation benefits for taking other forms of public transportation to and from work. Under current U.S. law, federal commuter benefits are only available through an employer. An employee cannot directly take advantage of these tax benefits. The Internal Revenue Code, Section 132(a), provides for employers to be reimbursed for the cost of bike commuting expenses via an offset against the employer’s federal tax liability of up to $20 per month (or a maximum of $240 per year) for each participating employee, effective January 1, 2009. While our Ride to Work program offers a convenient way for employees to lower or eliminate their commuting costs, the program offers other benefits as well. The program offers an employer the ability to enhance their benefits package with an incentive that can be used to attract and retain qualified employees in areas with bike-sharing access, limited parking availability and as a desirable health and wellness initiative. Participating employees simply submit a monthly voucher to their employer confirming they used a bike as a part of their commute to work at least 10 times that month. Employees that take advantage of the federal bike commuter subsidy are ineligible for other federal transportation benefits during the months they participate in our Ride to Work program. Please note, that unlike the other qualified transportation fringe benefits, a qualified bicycle commuting reimbursement benefit cannot be funded through employee pre-tax income. Be a part of the DECOBIKE Ride to Work program by offering the following incentives to your employees: • P articipation in the federal bike commuter benefit program • E ncourage employees to become members of the Decobike bike share program or open a DECOBIKE Ride to Work program for your organization. • E ntice employees to participate in a company-wide biking challenge and other fun activities. DECOBIKE works closely with employers to help administer our Ride to Work program. DECOBIKE provides monthly account statements to the employer for their accounting records, which are used to obtain the tax offset for their participating employees. A dedicated DECOBIKE representative will help make participation in the program stress-free. GROUP RATE PROGRAM We understand that not all organizations are in a position to offer their employees the commuter program as a part of their benefits package – perhaps you’re a nonprofit or a business organization without a federal tax liability. To this end, we have created a Group Discount program for organizations with ten (10) or more employees that are interested in biking to work. Please speak to your DECOBIKE Account Executive about how to participate in our Group Discount program. • U nlimited-rides and 24/7 access to all DECOBIKE bikes and stations • C omplimentary DECOBIKE helmet for each participating employee www.decobike.com/ridetowork 54 BENEFITS OF OUR RIDE TO WORK™ PROGRAM BIKING REDUCES PARKING COSTS When employees bike to work, they reduce the demand for parking spaces. This can help lower the cost of employer-paid parking as well as free up valuable parking for your guests or customers. The square footage necessary for one vehicle parking space can provide enough room to park 8 bicycles, which can serve dozens of people each and every day. BENEFITS When employers support biking to work programs, they provide a service that is highly-valued by employees that is also cost-effective, beneficial for the environment and important for the future success of their company, as well as the overall health and well-being of their employees. Our Ride to Work program can help with employee issues such as: • • • • • • Monthly parking costs Health care costs High turnover rates Low morale Decreased productivity Absenteeism • Free up parking for your guests or customers. • Reduce your need to offer or reimburse for employee parking. • Happier employees lead to less employee turnover • Not waiting in rush-hour traffic can help lead to a less stressful workday and a more productive employee. • Supporting bike commuting is much less expensive than an in-office fitness facility or gym memberships. EMERGENCY RIDE HOME PROGRAM The Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program provides free taxi service for registered commuters in Miami-Dade County in the event of an unexpected emergency 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Think of it as “commuter insurance.” Ask your DECOBIKE Account Executive how the program works. With all these benefits available, what are you waiting for? Get your employees and your organization moving towards a healthier, greener future today! EMPLOYEES WHO EXERCISE REGULARLY HAVE LOWER HEALTH COSTS AND LESS SICK DAYS The US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) reports that physical activity saves employers between 6 - 32% in health costs per year. Physically fit people are also sick an average of two less days per year than people who are not physically fit. Commuting to work by bicycle solves transportation issues as well as increases health and vitality. Adults who bike to work have better weight, blood pressure, and insulin levels.
