Best Owner-Handled in Show Competition - Sunday, May 1, 2016
- National Owner-Handled Series
The AKC Owner/ Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited
by their owners who are not professional handlers . This series of special competitions
will be offered at dog shows across the country.
All dogs that are owner/handled and are not owned or exhibited by professional
handlers' meet the requirements for this competition. Exhibitors must declare their
dog is Owner/Handler eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry
form . Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the steward's book and the
catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the competition by an eligible owner.
Professional handlers may not exhibit the dog In this competition.
The Owner Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to
compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners B itch and
winners of the non-regular classes.
If the Best of BreedNariety winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will
automatically be Owner Handled Best of BreedNariety and be eligible to compete
in both the regular as well as the Owner-Handled Group.
If the Best of BreedNariety winner is Owner-Handled competition ineligible and
the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of BreedNariety will compete against the eligible
undefeated exhibits of the owner sex to determine Owner-Handled Best of
BreedN ariety.
• If the Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex to Best of BreedNariety are both
ineligible and Select Dog and Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose
Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible Winners Dog or Winners
Bitch.
If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all dogs of the same sex and then choose
Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs of the opposite sex including
the eligible Winners .
• If Best of Breed, Besl of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog & Select
Bitch are ineligible, the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring
including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of BreedNariety.
The breed will not be represented in the Owne r-H andled Group if there is no eligible
dog competing in the Best of Breed or in Best of Winners Competition.
"Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged
to a professional handlers ' organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise
advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for payor received
payment for handling a dog.

The classes are provided in aU breeds and in each
breed variety. Where certain classes are divided by
age, color, or weight, it is so noted in List of Breeds
and MUST BE INDICATED ON ENTRY FORM.
Amateur-Owner-Handler - For dogs that are at least
six months 01 age that are not champions. Dogs must
be handled in the class by the registerd owner 01 the
dog and is limited to exhibitors who have not, at any
point in time , been a professional dog handler, AKC
approved conformation judge, or employed as an
assistant to a professional handler.

Bred-by-Ex hibitor Class eligibility: All dogs entered
in the Bred-by-Exhibitor Class must be individually
registered with the AKC. The Person handling the dog
must be a breeder of record 01 the dog and an owner
01 record of the dog. To exhibit in Ihis class, family
members must be a breeder and owner 01 record.
Veteran Class. A Class for Dogs and a Class for
Bitches 7 years of age or older. Entry Fee $27.00.

A judge requesting the use of a ramp must give notice to the show superintendenVshow secretary prior to
judging. AKC approval is not required.
The entire entry in a breed is to be examined in the same manner (ground. table or ramp).
At the discretion of the judge, the following breeds may be judged on the ground or on a ramp through all
levels of competition including Group and Best in Show judging: Clumber Spaniel. English Springer Spaniels,
Field Spaniels, Sussex Spaniels. Welsh Springer Spaniels, Irish Terriers, Kerry Blue Terriers, Soft Coated
Wheaten Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Chinese Shar·Pei. Keeshonden, Norwegian Buhunds, Polish
Lowland Sheepdogs and Norrbonenspets (Mise).
AI the discretion of the judge the following breed may be judged on the table or on a ramp through all levels
of competition including Group and Best in Show judging: Cardigan Welsh Corgis.
At the discretion of the judge through all levels of competition including Group and Best in Show judging, the
following breeds may be judged on the ground, a ramp or on a table: Boykin Spaniels and Whippets.
The following breeds must be judged on a ramp through all levels of conformation competition: Basset Hounds,
Bulldogs and Chow Chows. This extends to all conformation competition at AKC conformation dOing shows
and any AKC event where a conformation title may be earned . This policy includes Group, BIS, Junior
Showmanship, the 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy Competition, the AKC National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS),
and all other special attractions that offer Group and BIS competitions.
Ramps may be used in emergency situations to judge any ground breed. In an emergency situation, where
use of a ramp is not indicated in the premium list, an exhibitor has the option of withdrawing their entry and
receiving a refund.
For the judging of juniors the ramp may be used at the discretion of the judge for the ramp optional breeds.
JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION
AKC Junior Handler Numbers are now required for entry in Junior Showmanship Competition. Numbers may
be obtained from the American Kennel Club - PHONE: (919) 233-9767.

Entry blank MUST be filled out with the necessary Information, otherwise the entry in Junior

MASTER CLASS: This Class will be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years on
the day 01 the show, and who have won the 10 Best Junior wins with competition. The calendar for this
class will consistent with the eligibility dales for the AKC Eukanuba National Championship. All Juniors
meeting the criteria for this class are required to entry the Master Class and may change their entry the
day of the show if entrie s have already dosed. Once the eligibility time frame for that year has passed
all participants re tum to the Open Class to complete for the following year.
Competition must exist for Best Junior Handler.

Entry Fees, $33.00 for the first entry of each dog except Puppy & Bred ·by-Exhibitor Classes which are
$27.00 and $33.00 for each add itional entry of the same dog . Amateur-Owner-Handler Class, $33.00.
Junior Showmanship Only, $18.00 and $18.00 as an additional class. Sweepstakes where applicable,
at Wilmington KC - $18.00. Sweepstakes at Penn Treaty where applicable, $18.00. Entries close April
13, 20 16.
An AKC RECORDING FEE of $,50 and an AKC Event Service Fee of $3.00 will be required for each
dog entered at any licensed or Member Club Show, Obedience Trial or Tracking Test. If a dog is entered
in more than one class in one of these events, the AKC Recording Fee and Service Fee is to be
collected on the first entry only. (AKC Rules Applying to Dog Shows, Chapter 11 , Section 2) . An AKC
Recording Fee of $3.00 will be required for each entry in any lincesed or Member Club Rally TriaL If
a dog is entered in more than one class in a Rally event, the AKC Recording Fee is to be collected
on each 01 the entries of that dog. (AKe Rally Regulations, Chapter 1, Section 3). At! Recording Fees
are paid to the American Kennel Club.
RETURNED CHECKS do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Superintendent will add a eollection fee
of $20.00 to the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks from the same exhibitors
may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis .
TELEGRAPH, TELEPHONE and UNSIGNED ENTRIES CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.

CANADIAN EXHIBITORS make fees payable in U.S. FUNDS. CANADIAN EXHIBITORS MUST USE
INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION NUMBERS· LITTER NUMBERS NOT ACCEPTED.
NO ENTRY SHALL BE MADE AND NO ENTRY SHALL BE ACCEPTED WHICH SPECIFIES ANY
CONDITIONS AS TO ITS ACCEPTANCE.
ENTRY FEES shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by
Veterinarian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of Show Committee. If because of riots, civil
disturbances or other acts beyond the conlrol of the management it is impossible to open or to complete
the show, no refund 01 entry fee will be made.
ERRORS ON ENTRY BLANKS. Owners are responsible lor errors in making out entry forms, whoever
may make such errors, and no entry lee will be refunded in event of such errors or cancellation of entries
after the published closing date.
NO REFUND FOR DUPLICATE ENTRIES. We will ma ke every effort to find all duplicate entries, but
if a dog has been processed, no refund will be made .
CONSULT JUDGING PROGRAM FOR TIME OF JUDGING.
OOGS MAY ARRIVE any time prior to their scheduled time of judging. DOGS NOT REQUIRED lorlu rther
judging will be excused.
JUDGES WILL NOT WAIT FOR ANY DOG HOLDING UP A CLASS. Owners or agents alone are
responsible l or the presence of Iheir dogs in the judging ring when their classes are called to be judged .
The show·giving club and the superintendent have no obligation or responsibility for providing service
through a public address system or stewards or runners for the purpose of calling or locating dogs that
are not brought into the ring when required.
ALL DOGS PRESENT must be held on leash or confined to thei r crates except when being judged or
when in the exercising ring .
CLASS CASH PRIZES will be paid in the ring to the person showing the dog. Claims for prize money
must be made in the ring before the judging of that breed is over, and the Superintendent to be advised
at once. The Superintendent and Show-giving Club may disclaim any liabil ity for cash prizes after the
judging of the breed is over.
No gasoline or diesel generators are permitted inside any building or within 100 feet of any tent on
this show site.
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED.
An administrative fee of $2.00 will be withheld Irom all refunds lor entries cancelled prior to the closing
of entries.

Please remember our members at the gate are volunteers. Any abuse of our gate workers
may result in a bench show hearing.
The following are rules estabished by the State Park. Any exhibitor, whether they are
camping or visiting for the day, must abide by the following rules and regulations.
Lums Pond State park requires that all vehicles remaining in the park overnight be in a
designated camping area. Anyone wishing to leave a vehicle on the grounds overnight
must register with Harry Miller via the form on page 32. Registration fees are $38.00 per
night. Vehicles will not be permitted to enter the park prior to 12 noon on Thursday,
April 28. 2016.
Camping space are for vehicles with paid reservations only. They are not for use
as grooming or set up areas. Anyone using a numbered camping space as such will
be charged the Park Camping Fee.
There will be NO Exhibitor Parking fee. Spectator Parking Fee - $4.00 - per vehicle
for DE License plates and $8.00 per vehicle for out of state.
Alcohol is prohibited at all times in the State Park. Lums Pond State Park has a zerotolerance rule for alcohol and violators will be prosecuted. This will be strictly enforced
by Park Officials.
Th e Park requires that all dogs remain on lead and under control at all times (except when
in ex-pens and in the Obedience Rings). Dogs are not to be tied or chained to any tree
or post in the park. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning up and disposing of anima l
waste properly.
Limited water hookups will be available. There is a bathhouse with hot showers on the
grounds, centra lly located. No dogs are perm itted in this building. No waste or gray water
is to be discharged onto the grounds at any time. Th ere is a dumping station on the
grounds for use by Exhibitors.
Exhibitors will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their space . Any exhibitor
leaving their space in a mann er not satisfactory to the State Park or the Wilmington Kennel
Club. Inc. will not be permitted to camp on the grounds at future events. The park is
typically a carry in/carry out facility however, there will be DUMPSTERS provided for the
convenience of the exh ibitors. PLEASE USE THEM.
All spaces will be pre-assigned upon receipt of the application and there will be no coning
off of spaces. Camping spaces are limited so it is advised to register early.
All spaces must be reserved through Harry Miller. Do not use the online parking reservation
system.
Overnight reservations are a privilege extended by the State Park. Any arguing , abusive
language , or failure to follow the rules or the directions of officials on duty will cause
PERMANENT forfeiture of all parking and camping privileges without refund of fees paid
and the possibility of disciplin e by the Events Committee.
For safety reasons, do not tie ropes or cords to any trees or shrubs. Do not hang lanterns
on any trees or shrubs. The possession or display of any firearms , air guns. paint ball guns,
sUng shots , martial arts weapons , fireworks or archery equipment is prohibited . 00 not ride
bicycles at night unless they are equipped with a headlight and reflectors .
Generators are permitted between the hours of 6:00 AM and 11 :00 PM only. This will
be strictly enforced by the State Park Officials. Failure to comply will result in a
bench hearing.
WKC will NOT be responsible for th e towing of any vehicle. For anyone needing it, the
name and telephone number of a loca l towing service will be available at the Club Tent.

(Variety) if you are entering a dog of a breed in which there are varieties for show purposes. please designate the particular variety
you are ente ring. I.e .• Cocker Spaniels (Black, ASCOB. Paru-color), Beagles (not exceeding 13 in.; over 13 in. but not exceeding 15
in.). Oachshunds (Longhaired, Smooth, Wirehaired), Bull Terriers (Colored, White). Manchester Terriers (Standard, Toy), Chihuahuas
(Smooth Coat. Long Coat), English Toy Spaniels (King Cha~es and Ruby, Blenheim and Prince Charles). Poodles (Toy, Miniature,
Standard), CoII~s (Rough. Smooth).
The follOWing categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Besl of Breed Competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record and
dogs which, according to their owner's records. have completedlhe requirements for a champioostlip, but l'A1ose championships are
unconfirmed. The showing of unconfirmed Champions in Best of Breed competiton is Umiled to a period 0190 days from the date
of the show where the dog completed the requ irements for a championship.
