Matteboxes by definition are designed for the rigors of broadcast news and demands of field
production. Vocas Systems designed a complete range of matteboxes for the HD/Film, ENG/EFP and
DV cameras, with the help of sophisticated 3D CAD/CAM software. To assure the matteboxes are
both strong and light, the Vocas matteboxes are manufactured using molded carbon fiber and
machined aluminum. These matteboxes combine precision engineering with simplicity and ease-ofuse for professional internal focus lenses. A special feature of the Vocas matteboxes is the patented
“eyebrow” system. These internal flags allow the user to precisely adjust the matte (or mask) to the
zoom position of the lens, and therefore reducing any unwanted light even more.

MB-450
In addition to the current line of matteboxes, Vocas proudly presents the most exciting advance in
image control and light management for EFP/HD/film cameras, the MB-450. Packed with features that
protect your camera and enhance creativity, this mattebox is perfect for any EFP/HD/film production.
This mattebox is the biggest Vocas mattebox currently available. It comes standard with two fully
rotatable 5,65”x5,65” filter trays as well as one fixed 4”x5.65” tray. It also features a rigid compartment
in the front end of the mattebox that can house either a matte, a fourth filterframe or the new patented
tilt filter unit. A 16:9 matte and three filterframes are included with the base MB-450 set. Just like all
other Vocas matteboxes, the MB-450 also includes a top-flag and externally operated patented
eyebrows.
`The MB-450 (item #0400-0451) features a Quick-Lock mounting system that attaches directly to the
front lens barrel.
If required, an MBS-100 mattebox support and a bars-adapter are available to use this mattebox on a
standard 15mm lightweight support. This mattebox is also compatible with the new swing away
bracket, which can be used on 15mm lightweight support, 19mm rails or 15mm studio rails.
This mattebox accommodates 4x4" through 5.65x5.65" filters and works with most wide angle lenses
in both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. This mattebox also features newly designed and patented flag
fixation on both the top flag and the sideflags.
The MB-450 has two independently rotatable filter trays and one non-rotatable horizontally oriented
filter tray.
This mattebox can accept an additional (4x5.65") filterframe in the hood. If desired, this fourth
filterframe can be replaced by a 16:9 mask.
Internal eyebrows are standard on the MB-450. They can be operated and locked from the outside of
the mattebox.
These patented internal French flags allow the user to adjust the matte (or mask) to the zoom
position of the lens.
Although the MB-450 can be used as a clip-on mattebox, we recommend the use of a bars-adapter or
swing away bracket and a MBS-100 mattebox support.

Swing away bracket
Swing away bracket for the MB-450 mattebox.
The Swing away bracket features a unique design that allows the user to move the
mattebox foreward and swing it away from the lens by rotating one single knob.
This enables the user to quickly change lenses without having to disassemble the
mattebox setup.
The Swing away bracket comes in three variations, namely:

Step-down adapterrings
If the MB-450 mattebox is used as a clip-on (directly attached to the lens front),
one of these following step down rings have to be used.
Adapterring 144 mm to 110 mm. For clip-on use with MB-450. Item #0420-0002.
Adapterring 144 mm to 105 mm ring system adapter. Allows the use of all 105
mm system adapterrings (with Item #0320-XXXX) in the MB-450. Item #0420-0006.
Care should be taken when using a clip-on mattebox to avoid damage to your
equipment. We do not recommend the use of a clip-on mattebox in conjunction with a
wide angle converter. Vocas is not responsible for any damage caused to your
equipment through the use of a clip-on mattebox.
Flexable adapterring kit
Flexible adapter ring 144 mm for MB-450. Incl. Holder for an additional 138 mm
round filter. Item #0420-0001.
If the MB-450 is used on a rail support, this ring prevents light leakage between
the lens and the rear end of the mattebox. This kit contains several exchangeable
flexible soft rubber rings in different diameters (also called "donuts").
To be used on lenses with a front outside diameter between 80 and 138mm.
If the holder for the additional 138 mm round filter is used, the maximum lens
diameter is 133 mm. This flexable adapterring kit is attached in the rear end of
the mattebox, and secured with the same quick lock system as used for clip on
use. If a round 138 mm polarizer filter is used in the flexible adapterring, the unit
can be rotated when the quick lock mechanism is released.
4th filterholder
Item #0410-0004.
This unit is attached in the front of the hood of the mattebox, and allows the
use of a 4th (4"x5,65" horizontal non rotatable) filter in the hood of the MB450.
15 mm barsadapter
Item #0460-0001.
If the MB-450 mattebox is used on 15 mm lightweight railsupport without
swing away bracket, this item is needed.
Tilt filter unit
Tilt filter unit for the MB-450. Item #0410-0005.
For extra flair reduction this unit can be placed inside the hood of the MB-450.
The filterframe in the non-rotatable filter tray of the MB-450 has to be
removed.
Accessory bracket
Accessory bracket for MB-450. Item #0450-0001.
This bracket allows the user to mount any accessory that has a hot shoe to the
top or bottom of the MB-450 as well as on the side flag hinges.

Question:
Answer:
My lens is wider than 5,1mm. Won't the mattebox vignette?
If two 4X4" filters are placed against the front of a lens wider than 5 mm they will
vignette. This means that the edges of one filter will be visible in the picture. If only
one filter is placed against the lens front (without rotating) it will not vignette.
Therefore it is impossible to design a mattebox with two 4X4" filters for lenses wider
than 5mm.
Especially for these lenses we have designed an adapter ring that makes the
mattebox slide about 7 mm further over the lens. This means that the first filter slot
is being sacrificed and that only one 4X4" filter can be used. In case of a
rotatable filter (in 90% of all cases this is a polarizer) we have a 4.5X4.5" filter frame
and matching polarizer filter available.
With the MB-350 one non-rotatable 4x4", and two non-rotatable 4x5.65" filters can
be used. Or one rotatable 4.5x4.5", and two non-rotatable 4x5.65" filters can be
used.

MB-315
The MB-315 is the most economical version of the Vocas broadcast matteboxes. Because of this, it’s also
the lightest broadcast mattebox of Vocas, weighing in at only 490 grams including filter trays. The MB315 features one rotatable 4”x4” filter tray and one fixed 4”x4” filter tray, however both filter trays can
be replaced with 3”x3” through 4”x6” filter trays. This mattebox also includes the standard Vocas topflag. Another feature of this mattebox is the patented eyebrow system, which can be used to reduce the
unwanted light even more. The MB-315 also features the new flag clamping system, for even better
locking of the top flag.
The MB-315 (item #0300-0315) features a Quick-Lock mounting system that attaches directly to the
front lens barrel.
If required, an MBS-100 mattebox support and a barsadapter on standard 15 mm rails can be used.
This mattebox accommodates 3x3" through 4x6" filters and works with most wide angle lenses in both
4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.
The MB-315 has one rotatable and one fixed 4" wide filter tray.
For lenses wider than 5mm this mattebox can use one 4x4" non rotatable filter.
The MB-315 also features a patented "heavy duty" French flag clamper.
Internal eyebrows are standard on the MB-315. They can be operated from the outside of the
mattebox.
Although the MB-315 can be used as a clip-on mattebox, we recommend the use of a barsadapter and
a MBS-100 mattebox support.

MB-325
The bigger brother of the MB-315 is the MB-325. This mattebox weighs a respectable 530 grams
including the filter trays. This mattebox also has two 4”x4” filter trays, which can be replaced by 3”x3”
through 4”x6” filter trays. With this mattebox however, both filter trays are fully rotatable. Also
included with this mattebox is the standard top-flag. Another feature of this mattebox is the patented
eyebrow system, which can be used to reduce the unwanted light even more. The MB-325 also features
the new flag clamping system, for even better locking of the top flag.

MB-350
The MB-350 is the flagship of the Vocas broadcast matteboxes. This mattebox has even more features
than the others. It comes standard with two fully rotatable 4”x4” filter trays as well as one fixed
4”x5.65” tray. It also features a rigid 4”x5,65” compartment in the front end of the mattebox that can
be used to mount either a matte or a fourth filter. A 4:3 and a 16:9 matte are included with the MB350. All this, only weighs 650 grams! Just like the others, this mattebox also includes a top-flag and
patented eyebrows, except with the MB-350 the top-flag is wider and foldable.

Flexible adapter ring kit

This kit contains several exchangeable flexible soft rubber rings. These rings
do not allow the mattebox to be used as clip-on. The Mattebox has to be
supported by a Mattebox support.

For superior camera protection, optimal compatibility with Arri and other

filter (4"x5,65"). In combination of a 4"x5,65" filter frame these masks can
also be used in every other mattebox. In the MB-350 these masks can

The Vocas MB-210 (item #0200-0210) features a Quick-Lock mounting system that attaches directly to
the front lens barrel.
If required, this mattebox can also be attached to the camera with a 15mm lightweight support.
This mattebox accommodates a 3x3" through a 4x6" filter and works with most wide angle lenses in
both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.
The Vocas MB-210 has one rotatable 4"X4" filter tray and a compartment for one fixed 4"X4" filter in
the front end of the hood.
The MB-210 is wide enough to work on most cameras with wide angle converter without fignetting.

Manual Focus Controller MFC-1
The MFC-1 (item #0500-0001) enables you to control the focus with more precision.
Made from machined aluminum and other high-tech materials, this follow focus is up to the level
of the most demanding camera man.
Attaches directly to the 15 mm light weight support with a quick-lock clamper.
Compact and affordable enough to use on DV cameras, yet professional enough to use on high end
cameras.
Rotation lock:
Especially for DV cameras with an indefinite rotating focus ring, the MFC-1 features a "rotation
stop". This stop can be enabled or disabled, and provides a hard stop on the focus knob. In fact
this "rotation stop" has three settings, namely: "free rotation", "full rotation with a stop" or "half a
rotation".
The MFC-1 comes standard with:

Drive Gears
This is the gear wheel which attaches to the follow focus unit.
Some lenses have different teeth sizes on the focus ring, therefore this gear
has to be exchangeable.

Drive gear Canon XL/H1 and the Sony HVR-S270(E) with standard lens, this
drive gear does not have the normal shaped teeth, but the teeth are shaped
to grip directly into the ribbed rubber focus ring of the lens. Therefore there

Z-10 zoom controller
The Vocas Z-10 zoom controller (item #0200-0000-01) enables camera operators to control their lens
zoom movements with precision.
Standard functions such as VTR start/stop, return video, zoom direction and speed adjustment are all
built into the controller.
More unique features of the Z-10 include;
Zoom Position Memory
Two set points can be placed anywhere in the zoom range. This effectively creates a user defined wide
and/or tele-end.
Once set, these limits remain in memory until changed by the user, or until a power on reset.
Zoom Position Feedback
The zoom position of the lens is always visible in the display of the Z-10.
Compatibility
The Z-10 is compatible with all servo driven PRO and broadcast lenses.
The zoom position memory function does not operate with all PRO lenses.

Please notice that due to the construction of the camcorder with the low built in microphone, the filter trays
have to go into the mattebox from the bottom side.
The rotatable filter tray can be rotated for about 45 degrees, for more rotation it is necessary to use the
Aluminum 4"x4" filter frame with short grip (#0310-0011).
