campus. As evidence of this fact, the 2014 and 2015
Lee College Lady Rebels teams earned the prestigious
NJCAA Academic Team Award, an honor awarded
annually to only a few, elite squads in the nation.
Since 1988, Head Coach Tracie Johnson, the current
NJCAA (Division 1) volleyball coach with the most
overall wins (636), has led the Lee College volleyball
program and has developed teams that compete for the
Region XIV and NJCAA National championships, year
in and year out. Coach Johnson’s program consistently
seeks young women who excel on the court and in the
classroom. Realizing that collegiate athletic success
is no substitute for lifetime goals, the program at Lee
College stresses the pursuit of academic success
foremost. As a result, Lee College administrators and
faculty traditionally have recognized the volleyball
program as consistently possessing one of the highest
grade point averages among all scholarship groups on
For the 2016 Lady Rebels, the goal is to win their
conference title and advance to the NJCAA National
Tournament! With a very talented recruiting class
arriving on campus, Johnson asserts the 2016 version
of the Lady Rebels will be both talented and deep. The
team will consist of fourteen roster spots, to include six
sophomores and eight freshman. Johnson states, “I am
confident this team will be competitive in our conference
and exciting to watch for the fans. Coach Sorge took on
a larger role in recruiting this past off season and she
was rewarded for her efforts by helping to bring in an
outstanding freshman class of recruits. In addition, our
sophomores are much more experienced and advanced
now with their skills and they will be exceptional leaders
for the team. The fall 2016 season should be fun for the
student-athletes and our fans!”
ince 1977, the Lee College volleyball program
has competed in the NJCAA, Division 1 level.
During this time period, the program has
consistently performed at a high level, earning high
national rankings and receiving many invitations to
annual NJCAA national tournaments.

degree, and then received a bachelor’s
of arts degree in teaching (with an
emphasis in physical education) from
Sam Houston State University in 1986.

science in physical education from
Texas Southern University.

Tournament (1997, 1999-2003).
Coach Johnson’s devotion to the

Lady Rebels to the Region XIV playoffs
22 times in her 28 years of coaching.

active NJCAA coaches. She also has
the longest tenure, the most wins and
the highest winning % of all coaches
in Lee College history, inclusive of all
sports past and present.
With her own roots being firmly planted
in the Baytown area, Coach Johnson is
a firm believer in recruiting the best

at Lee College, she has coached 39
players that were products of Baytown
high schools.
In addition, Coach
Johnson has had over 50 players play
for her that reside in the Lee College
service area.
Along with leading the Lady Rebels into
future success, Coach Johnson believes
very strongly about giving back to the
community. In 1989, Coach Johnson
started summer volleyball camps for
-22-
area teens. What once started small
in numbers, Coach Johnson’s volleyball
camps have now grown enormously
with the growing success and interest
the surrounding areas have had with
the sport of volleyball. Additionally,
from 2002-2014, Coach Johnson
served as executive director of a nonprofit volleyball club she founded for
the benefit of adolescent girls in the
Baytown and surrounding communities.

P
aige Sorge is entering her 4th
year as the assistant volleyball
coach at Lee College. She
graduated from Deer Park High
School in 2007 after an accoladefilled prep career and upon being
heavily recruited she chose to become
a Lady Rebel. Coach Sorge was a
scholarship student-athlete at Lee
College from 2007-2009 where she
was named to the All-Conference team
and All-Region team in 2008.
She
was also named the team’s MVP her
sophomore season. After earning her
Associate’s Degree from Lee College,
Coach Sorge transferred to Houston
Baptist University (HBU) where she
continued her volleyball career at the
NCAA Division I level. At HBU, she
majored in Psychology and minored
in Mathematics earning her Bachelor’s
degree in 2011. Coach Sorge received
Academic All-Conference honors
during her senior season, and was
also an active member of PsyChi, the
Psychology Honor Society. In 2013,
she furthered her education by earning
her Master’s degree in Developmental
Psychology at Durham University
in England. While at Durham, she
competed and assisted with coaching
the institution’s volleyball team.
Coach Sorge’s experience as an elite
collegiate middle blocker and outside
hitter at NJCAA Division I and NCAA
Division I programs, while coaching
USAV club volleyball for eight years, has
prepared her with a good foundation
of knowledge for coaching multiple
positions on the court.
Coach Johnson states, “I am fortunate
to have Coach Sorge assisting me in
all aspects of the program as we strive
to train, develop and support these
young ladies into not only becoming
elite athletes, but also as they mature
-24-
and reach for their respective academic
and life goals. Coach Sorge is a great
role model and mentor for the studentathletes as she has been where they are
currently and she has been successful
in meeting her goals. She is a great
asset to me as we coach, teach and
direct the team. I look forward to our
continued professional and personal
relationships.”
At Lee College, Coach Sorge is involved
with all aspects of the volleyball
program, including recruiting, technical
support, scouting and game analysis,
involvement with camps, monitoring
of the student-athletes’ academic
progress, conducting practices and
handling administrative tasks. Sorge,
the former Paige Jenkins, is married to
Garrett and has one daughter, Cooper
Grace.
W
hitney Moffitt is entering
her 1st season as a
volunteer assistant coach
for the Lady Rebels. She graduated
from Corpus Christi Calallen High
School in 2012 where she earned
many athletic and academic awards.
Coach Moffitt, a highly recruited prep
star, signed with Lee College as a
middle blocker and was an integral
part (Career .305 hitting efficiency) of
the 2012-2013 teams where she was
named to the All-Conference and AllRegion teams for both seasons, as
well as being named the team’s MVP
during her freshman season. Also,
while at Lee College, Coach Moffitt
was a member of Phi Theta Kappa,
the president of Alpha Beta Gamma,
received the 2013 Volleyball Award at
the Presidential Honors Day and was a
part of the 2013 NJCAA All-Academic
Team. After earning her Associate’s
Degree from Lee College, Coach
Moffitt transferred to the University of
St. Thomas (UST) where she continued
her volleyball career at the NAIA level
in the Red River Athletic Conference
(RRAC). In 2014, Coach Moffitt was
named MVP of her team and awarded
2nd team RRAC honors. In 2015, she
was named 1st Team All-Conference,
finished 2nd in the NAIA in overall
blocks, and became the UST All-Time
blocks leader per set and per season.
Academically, Coach Moffitt earned her
Bachelor’s degree in 2016, majoring in
Business Administration in Marketing
with a minor in Economics. Currently,
Coach Moffitt is a graduate student
at the University of Houston where
she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in
Hospitality Management.
Coach Johnson states, “Coach Moffitt
has been a winner in everything she
has set her mind to accomplish. She,
like Coach Sorge, is a prime example of
-25-
how a high school graduate can come
into our program, attain her goals by
working hard and focusing, and then
return to the program to give back
and pay it forward by mentoring her
successors. Coach Moffitt is mature
beyond her years, yet due to her age
being relatively close to those on the
team, she has the best opportunity of all
of us to be a positive influence on those
she coaches. I am thrilled Coach Moffitt
has decided to return to Baytown to
assist Coach Sorge and I in our efforts.”
