Coach Sorge was a scholarship student-athlete at Lee College from 2007-2009 where she was named to the All-Conference team and All-Region team in 2008. She was also named the team’s MVP her sophomore season. After earning her Associate’s Degree from Lee College, Coach Sorge transferred to Houston Baptist University (HBU) where she continued her volleyball career at the NCAA Division I level. At HBU, she majored in Psychology and minored in Mathematics earning her Bachelor’s degree in 2011. In 2013, she furthered her education by earning her Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology at Durham University in England. While at Durham, she competed and assisted with coaching the institution’s volleyball team. Coach Sorge’s experience as an elite collegiate middle blocker and outside hitter at NJCAA Division I and NCAA Division I programs, while coaching USAV club volleyball for eight years, has prepared her with a good foundation of knowledge for coaching multiple positions on the court. Coach Johnson states, “I am fortunate to have Coach Sorge assisting me in all aspects of the program as we strive to train, develop and support these young ladies into not only becoming elite athletes, but also as they mature -24- and reach for their respective academic and life goals. Coach Sorge is a great role model and mentor for the studentathletes as she has been where they are currently and she has been successful in meeting her goals. She is a great asset to me as we coach, teach and direct the team. I look forward to our continued professional and personal relationships.” At Lee College, Coach Sorge is involved with all aspects of the volleyball program, including recruiting, technical support, scouting and game analysis, involvement with camps, monitoring of the student-athletes’ academic progress, conducting practices and handling administrative tasks. She, like Coach Sorge, is a prime example of -25- how a high school graduate can come into our program, attain her goals by working hard and focusing, and then return to the program to give back and pay it forward by mentoring her successors. Coach Moffitt is mature beyond her years, yet due to her age being relatively close to those on the team, she has the best opportunity of all of us to be a positive influence on those she coaches.
