Israel Film and TV Week 2013 - Israeli Missions Around The World
1
Foreward by H.E. Mr. Boaz Modai
Ambassador of Israel to Ireland
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you
to the "Made in Israel - Film and Television Week" in Dublin.
Following the success of the Israeli Film Days in Ireland in
2011 and in response to many requests from our Irish friends,
we are delighted to present you with a wider selection of
interesting Israeli films and TV shows screened over a week.
I strongly believe that culture and in particular cinema is an
excellent way to get to know a different people. By presenting
a varied selection of Israeli films, we hope that audiences in
Ireland will become better acquainted with the reality of life in
Israel rather than the distorted image, which is often portrayed
in the media. Israel and Ireland have much in common and we
hope the "Made in Israel - Film and Television Week" will
emphasize the bonds between our countries.
During our "Made in Israel" week, you will have the
opportunity to see many of the recent award winning Israeli
films, which deal with diverse issues and illustrate the cu

cultural vitality of life in Israel. The modern state of Israel
was established over 65 years ago. Since that time, the
country has overcome many challenges but nonetheless
survived and prospered into a modern, vibrant democracy.
We are particularly glad to present a selection of popular
Israeli TV shows to audiences in Ireland for the first time.
The success of Israeli TV in the U.S.A. and also around the
world in recent years has been phenomenal. We are
delighted to partner with TV3 and with Keshet
International on an exciting project, whereby viewers will
be given the option to vote for their favourite Israeli TV
show, which they would like to be screened in its entirety
on TV3. Further information can be found in the festival
brochure.
I would like to extend my appreciation to all those who
were instrumental in planning this event and in particular
to my Deputy Head of Mission, Mrs. Nurit Tinari-Modai,
who has devoted a tremendous amount of time, energy and
passion into making "Made in Israel" a reality.
Enjoy!
Boaz Modai

ADAM RESURRECTED is an American-German-Israeli film, directed
by Paul Schrader and adapted from Yoram Kaniuk's novel "Man, Son of
a Dog". It follows the story of Adam Stein (Academy Award nominee
Jeff Goldblum, "Jurassic Park"), a charismatic patient at a mental
institution for Holocaust survivors in Israel in1961. He reads minds and
confounds his doctors, led by Nathan Gross (Derek Jacobi, "The Golden
Compass"). Before the war, in Berlin, Adam was an entertainer--cabaret
impresario, circus owner, magician until he finds himself in a
concentration camp, commandeered by Commandant Klein (Oscar
nominee Willem Dafoe, "Spider-man"). Adam survives the camp by
becoming the Commandant's "dog". He provides entertainment for the
Commandant while Adam's wife and daughter are sent off to die. Years
later we find him at the Institute. One day, Adam senses something amiss
"Who brought a dog in here?" he asks Gross. Gross denies there is a dog
but Adam finds "the dog"- a young boy raised in a basement on a chain.
Adam and the boy see and recognize each other as fellow dogs and thus
their journey begins.

After years of living apart from her dad, Libby, an introverted yet sharpwitted teenager is sent to live with him in Israel. Her arrival coincides
with the outbreak of the second Lebanon war. Libby quickly discovers
that her Dad, Shaul, is an infantile eccentric, and that he is “in-between
apartments” (in other words: homeless). Shaul comes up with a creative
plan to put a roof over their heads- they pose as refugees from the
bombarded Northern region of Israel, and are taken in by a well-off
family in Jerusalem. Finally in a "normal" household, Shaul and Libby
begin to build their father-daughter relationship, but their false identities
can't last forever, especially as Libby unleashes teenage fury at the lies
permeating her life; those she must tell now, and those she's been fed
since childhood.

Award-winning filmmaker Eytan Fox (Yossi &
Jagger, Walk on Water) returns with a stylized,
gossamer-light musical comedy about life, love and
friendship.
When heartbroken Tel Aviv baker Anat gets
together with her friends to watch a Eurovision-style song contest, the
catchy tune they write to cheer her up unexpectedly ends up as Israel’s
entry for the contest! But will the good-natured friends survive the cutthroat world of the pop business? With feel-good music by Babydaddy
(Scissor Sisters), Technicolor styling à la Almodóvar and an
unashamedly entertaining storyline that could have come from Friends,
this hit musical comedy is the guiltiest pleasure of the year.
