2014 Conference Accommodation Brochure
CONFERENCE ACCOMMODATION -‐ ALICE SPRINGS Compiled by Dr Susan Bennett The Alice Springs Convention Centre (ASPCC) is a little out of town and across the river so that limits the accommodation within easy walking distance. Lasseter’s Hotel/Casino (4.5*) -‐ 93 Barrett Drv, Alice Springs. Adjacent to/part of the Convention Centre complex and this is the “conference hotel”. www.lasseters.com.au/hotel A conference rate has been negotiated with the hotel which is cheaper than on Booking.com. Mention as per negotiated with Cassandra Laverty (Event Executive, ASPCC at [email protected] ) when booking. Standard Room (Run of the House) $145/night + $20 pp for breakfast Premium Room (newer part of the hotel) $170/night + $20 pp for breakfast Deluxe Suite (Run of the House Suites) $250/night + $20 pp for breakfast Premium Suite (2 BR but internal staircase) $350/night + $20 pp for breakfast Breakfast is cheaper if booked in advance (at the time of making the room booking). It is about a 30 min walk to the nearest cafes & restaurants. Double Tree by Hilton Alice Springs (4.5*) -‐ 82 Barrett Drv, Alice Springs. Within easy walking distance of the Convention Centre and looks to be well appointed. A King Room or Double/Twin Room with mountain views and breakfast included is $447 for 3 nights (on Booking.com) Pool reportedly not heated and not as nice as at Lasseter’s. Alice in the Territory (3.5*) -‐ 46 Stephens Rd, Alice Springs. Located on the other side of the Convention Centre (than Lasseter’s) and across the street. (prices as per Booking.com) Back-‐packer style 4 bedded dormitories ($25 /bed/night) Double Rooms ($297 for 3 nights, breakfast incl) Twin Rooms ($330 for 3 nights) Family Suites ($360 for 3 nights) We have booked 4 x 4 bedded dormitory rooms for the student accommodation. Other options: Quest Serviced Apartments (4.5*) – located in town and is a 30 min walk from the Convention Centre. Desert Palms Resort (3.5*) -‐ 74 Barrett Drv, Alice Springs, reasonably close but the experience is reportedly more 3* or less. POST-‐CONFERENCE ACCOMODATION -‐ ULURU Compiled by Dr Laraine Ruthborn The whole resort at Uluru has 5 accommodation options & is run by the same company "Ayers Rock Resort". It is sometimes called Yulara. It has an excellent website with details of accommodation /tours www.ayersrockresort.com.au To get the hang of the resort this map is very useful, with beautiful photo of the resort: http://www.ayersrockresort.com.au/resort-‐map/ Voyagers Travel Service organizes all their accommodation & tour bookings Tel: 1300 134 044 or 02 8296 8010. I booked with them by phone & they were very helpful. I pushed them a bit & negotiated a 10% discount. Be aware that rates for the next few months are low-‐season, but August is high-‐ season, so more expensive than today’s rates quoted on website. Prices are confusing. Here's a brief summary, be aware it is taken from the website, except for the Emu Walk info which is based on ALMA experience of booking. The 2 top hotels -‐ Sails in the Sunset, & Desert Gardens Hotel are expensive but worth the extra cost if you can afford it. More affordable are the next 2 -‐ Emu Walk Apartments (with kitchens), & Outback Pioneer Hotel & Lodge. The other option is the camp ground. Emu Walk Appts (4*) have the advantage of a kitchen. The resort has an IGA supermarket & I was assured they have fresh bread, fruit & veg etc. Price (with discount) is based on bookings made by myself & another ALMA -‐ 1 bedroom appt: double or twin separate bedroom & living/kitchen/dining with sofa bed (see photos on website) -‐ $286/night, for 3 nights = $858. 2 bedroom appt: same as above except 2 separate bedrooms -‐ $358/night, for 3 nights =$1074. Outback Pioneer Hotel & Lodge (3.5*) hotel rooms or (2*) lodge accommodation. I have not spoken to them about these, & find it difficult to sort out the multiple options on the website. Suggest phoning Voyagers. The website quotes standard rooms & ensuite with breakfast packages similar to Emu Walk prices, also budget rooms with or without bathroom, cheaper. The lodge has 4 bed dorms (cheaper) or 20 bed dorms (much cheaper). The Camping Ground has cabins for $135/night for 1-‐6 persons, & camp sites. General info, please check yourself at time of booking that this is accurate: You can cancel up to 15 days prior to arrival for a full refund. Don't need to pay until 3 weeks before arrival. Credit card will confirm booking. Closer to the time we can look at tour options, group car hire, etc.
