Mercedes 280 SL ‘Pagoda’
1969 103,000miles Automatic
We are delighted to offer the Stunning 280 SL Mercedes. The car is an original UK specification Right Hand Drive car with 103,000
recorded miles. It is finished in Champagne Gold metallic with a gloss black hard top and matching hub caps. The interior is original
MB tex, with new carpets and refurbished woodwork.
The car has a very good history with a thick file of invoices and old MOTs. Its not surprising that these cars cost more than twice
what Jaguar were asking for an E-Type at the same time, when you see how these cars are built and engineered.
It has been maintained regardless of cost during its life, and has had anything done to it that needed doing, so as a result has never
had a “restoration”. There is no rot or rust on the car, the paint is thick and glossy and the chrome is beautiful.
The soft top is practically brand new, and has rarely been used. Roger Edwards, the best Pagoda specialist in the country has been
over the car with a fine tooth comb and there was nothing he could find that needed attention. I’ve replaced the hub caps with
brand new black ones to match
the hard top, although I still have an
original set in champagne that I will
supply with the car.
The interior is black MB tex and is
original, although the carpets are fairly
new. New interior trim is available off
the shelf if you wanted to retrim the
seats and door cards. Whilst never
having had a specific restoration,
this 280 SL was maintained and
looked after throughout its life. The
car was resprayed in 1978. The
engine was overhauled in 1981,
and had some panels replaced and
repainted. It appears to have been
recommissioned in 1988. I have
MOTs dating back to 1978 that
support the mileage.
