Press release Starrag Group 5-2015 Solutions for Oil/Gas/Fluids Dörries VCE 2000 turning lathe in valve production Tall, quiet and productive in cheese paradise Tall, quiet and productive: The manufacturing experts at Mokveld Valves in Gouda are proud of their new Dörries Contumat VCE 2000 vertical turning lathe. Mönchengladbach/Gouda, Netherlands A special machine tool has recently appeared in Gouda: It is a Dörries VCE 2000 turning lathe, used by Mokveld in Gouda to produce high-pressure control and stop valves. Mokveld Valves BV in Gouda had all auxiliary units in the vertical turning lathe (Dörries Contumat VCE 2000 / 200 MC FC So) enclosed in a housing by Dörries Scharmann Technologie GmbH, which is based in Mönchengladbach, Germany and is a subsidiary of the Swiss-based Starrag Group. ”We no longer wanted our employees to have to put up with the terrible noise that came from the hydraulics“, says Bart van den Bosch, Manager of Production Engineering. ”But now there is almost no noise.“ The ergonomic machine has been in use since 2013. The unusual tower structure is noticeable upon first glance. The machine table (60 kW drive capacity; 19,300 Nm torque) can be used to process workpieces that weigh up to 12 tonnes, with a maximum height of 2,450 mm and a diameter of up to 2,000 mm. The Dutch company uses the VCE 2000 predominantly to machine cast steel, chrome steel, duplex, super duplex, Inconel and occasionally titanium. The machine came with a pallet table with a separate straightening table and motor-driven alignment stand, for more ergonomic and productive setup of the next workpiece while another workpiece is still in the machining area. As around 80% of the machining operations are allotted to turning, the tool magazine contains 50 lathe tools that Mokveld has transformed into 300 lathe tools using a technological trick with special holders. However, the percentage of milling and drilling operations also plays a crucial role: The Dutch valve specialists appreciate the fact that bores can now also be manufactured on the machine in a single clamping position. Another special feature is the extended retraction and stopping function: If there are impending collisions, then the tool is directed out of the machining area and into a safe position. Mokveld responds with the extended retraction and stopping function in the event of a power failure. Reduced unproductive time: The Dörries Contumat VCE 2000 vertical turning lathe was fitted with a pallet table with separate straightening table and motor-driven alignment stand. This makes the setup process for the next workpiece more ergonomic and productive, allowing it to be completed while another workpiece is still being processed. Company profile Mokveld Valves BV The Mokveld Valves BV valve factory (with 370 employees worldwide) was founded as a small machine repair shop in Gouda in 1922 by N.J. Mokveld. The company has been manufacturing its own products for 70 years: It produces high-pressure control and stop valves that operate on the axial flow principle. The development of axial valves received a major boost with the discovery of the gas field in Groningen, the Netherlands in 1950. Mokveld initially produced valves for the Dutch gas company Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) BV from Assen, and then specialised in high-quality, customer-specific valve systems for the global gas and oil industry. http://mokveld.com Starrag Group is a global technology leader in manufacturing high-precision machine tools for milling, turning, boring and grinding workpieces of metallic, composite and ceramic materials.
