It is one of the peaks directly defining the Continental Divide and offers amazing views of the divide and surrounding peaks, lakes and valleys. Above treeline, the tundra is fragile and expansive with very little shelter. The final part of the trail is marked by loose rocks. Since there are no places to take cover, this hike should be done early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms. The views from the top are expansive, but getting there is difficult. A very early morning start with headlights is necessary to avoid afternoon storms. The last 1.5 miles will take up to 2 hours for it’s difficulty and altitude. This is a difficult hike and our goals will be hugely dependent on weather and conditions and the overall safety of the group is of utmost priority. While the summit is the goal, we may adjust our goals to the Keyhole and Chasm.
