Martinsville Speedway is a NASCAR stock car racing track was one of the first paved
“speedways” ever built. It was built in 1947.
Martinsville was founded by Joseph Martin, who was an American Revolutionary War
General, Indian agent, and explorer. He was good friends with Patrick Henry, who was
the revolutionary patriot Henry County was named after.
The city has a total area of 11.0 square miles.

o Rabih Abdullah (Born April 27, 1975 in Martinsville; NFL player with the New
England Patriots);
o Buddy Arrington (born July 26, 1938 in Martinsville; NASCAR driver with the
