'9-Tap Tour' Coming To
Las Vegas
The 9-Tap Touris coming to Las Vegas,November 27th 29th, hosting their FIRST local Tournamentat Texas Station.
The first 100 bowlers to enter will receive a complimentary
one year membership and they're also guaranteeing that 1st
Place will pay at least $2,500.00 with a full Winner's Pot entry.
Brunswick will present new Bowling Balls to Top Qualifiers
on both Friday & Saturday.
The 9-Tap Tour offers a handicapped 9-Pin No Tap Tournament format (9 on your first ball counts as a STRIKE). This
has proven to be very popular in the Seattle area for the last
12 years, with payouts averaging over $378,000.00 per year
for the last 4 years. That popularity has also spread to Hawaii, where their format has also proved to be very successful
over the last 5 years.
By excluding the higher average bowlers (210+), the Tour
has created a Tournament specially structured for the rest of
the bowling community. The goal of providing a 'level playing
field' for all skill levels (up to 210) has been proven by the
results. The Seattle Region averages 40+ Tournaments each
year and consistently produces a very diverse list of Champions.
In 2014, Champions ranged in age from 20, all the way to 87
year old Wess Hall Jr who won his first career Title and a
$2,629.00 check. Another Senior, 82 year old Leon Bemis,
won his 6th career title, boosting his Tour earnings to over
$22,000.00. Ladies captured 9 Titles in 2014, following Pen
Hagen who became the first lady to win the Tour's Bowler of
the Year competition. The Seattle Tour's 12th season of competition, still produced 20 bowlers who earned their FIRST
Tour Titles. With every Tournaments 'Cash List' having a wide
range of handicaps, in both Seattle and Hawaii, we can see
why the Tour is proving to be so popular.
The Tour expects Las Vegas to be the showcase region for
this fast growing organization, producing even bigger successes in the city that has become the Capitol for bowling in
the USA.

Modesto, CA - Yosemite Lanes was on an emotional
high Tuesday night, September 15, when not one 300
game was shot but two. And both were shot for the same
game. It gets even better! They were bowled by husband
and wife - Wayne and Bonnie Garber. And if that‘s not
phenomenal enough, they were bowling on different
teams and both won their games with this contribution!
How much more exciting can it get?
Competing in their Tuesday league for just the second week of this Fall season in a
league they have bowled in for at least 20 years, Wayne said for that second game,
he ―was watching Bonnie since the 6th frame‖ when she was busy stringing her strikes
and added, ―she didn‘t know I was striking.‖ They were just four pairs away from each
other. The crowds gathered in anticipation behind their lanes. Bonnie got a loud
round of applause when she bowled her 11th. But the applause grew louder as
Wayne shot his 12th. Then, just 15 seconds later, as Bonnie prepared for her last ball,
she remarked, ―Really? Right now?? Ok!‖ and let ‗er rip to the loudest ovation of the
night! Everyone went crazy to witness this once-in-a-lifetime moment!
Mr. and Mrs. Murtishaw Set A
National Record

MURRIETA – In 2002 Jim and Anita Murtishaw tied a national record when they became
the second married couple to roll 300s in the same game while bowling on the same team.
That is, both Jim and Anita each rolled a 300 in the same game for the same team. A St.
Louis couple was the first to accomplish the fete.
Last Thursday the Murtishaw‘s did it again. Both Jim and Anita rolled perfectos as teammates in the first game of Cal Oaks 640 Scratch League. That‘s a new national record.
They established a new national record by becoming the first married couple to roll perfect
games in the same game as teammates, two times. Yes, both Jim and Anita each rolled a
300 in the same game as teammates, a second time. ONCE A TIE, TWICE A RECORD.
No surprise that the Murtishaw‘s set a national record. Both are members of the Citrus Belt
Hall of Fame. Both have led the Citrus Belt in high average. Both have rolled multiple perfect games and 800s. Anita still holds the Association record for the highest three game
series (848) by a woman.

Johnson Wins
2015 U.S. Women’s Open

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Defending champion Liz
Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York, already may be in the
United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame, but she was
able to add another huge accomplishment to her legacy with
a win at the 2015 Bowlmor AMF U.S. Women's Open.
The 41-year-old right-hander defeated her Team USA
teammate Shannon O'Keefe of O'Fallon, Illinois, 190-189, to
claim her fourth U.S. Women's Open title, breaking a tie for
second place on the event's all-time win list behind fellow
USBC Hall of Famer Marion Ladewig, who won eight times.
Johnson earned $50,000 and the coveted green jacket for
the win, while O'Keefe took home $25,000 as the runner-up.
Johnson also became the first bowler to successfully defend a U.S. Women's Open title since hall of famer Dorothy
Fothergill accomplished the feat in 1969, and she joins threetime U.S. Women's Open winner Kelly Kulick (2010) as the only bowlers to win the
USBC Queens and U.S. Women's Open in the same year.
The finale at Brunswick Zone Carolier was a rematch of the 2007 title tilt, and
O'Keefe had a chance at redemption with two strikes and seven pins in her final
frame. After she left a washout and failed to convert, Johnson covered a 4 pin and
got seven on her fill ball to escape with the win.
"I made the best shot I could in the 10th, hoping to strike, so I didn't have to worry
as much," said Johnson, who also won the U.S. Women's Open in 1996, 2007 and
2013. "I shanked the last shot, but it was enough. This is going to take a while to
sink in, for sure. When the Tour folded in 2003, we had no idea all of this would
come back. It has been an incredible year, and I'm very grateful."
Johnson's win at the 2015 Queens in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in May kicked off the
2015 Professional Women's Bowling Association schedule. That victory secured her
spot in next week's season-ending The Smithfield PWBA Tour Championship promoted by GoBowling.com, where she'll be seeded right into the semifinals as the
2015 PWBA points leader.
"This has been an amazing year, to say the least," said Johnson, who won last
week's PWBA Detroit Open, too. "I haven't made the Queens show when I've won
the U.S. Open, and I didn't make the U.S. Open show when I won the Queens
(2009), so I was pretty happy just to get here. But once you're there, you want to
take advantage. I didn't make the best shots I could have or should have, but I got it
done."
On the way to the championship match, Johnson used just one double and a flawless spare effort to top four-time first-team collegiate All-American and 2015 PWBA
Lubbock Sports Open winner Jazreel Tan of Singapore, 199-177. Tan was the only
amateur in the top five and one of nine Team Singapore members in the field this
week.
Before facing Johnson, Tan overcame a 28-pin deficit to slip past Team USA member Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, New York, 172-165. McEwan held the commanding lead at the halfway point, but three consecutive opens starting in frame six
proved to be her undoing.
Tan started the day with a clean 195-190 victory against nearby Union, New Jersey's Kulick. Despite a late open frame, Kulick had a chance to double in the 10th
frame for the win but left the 2-4-5 combination on her second shot, allowing Tan to
advance.
All competitors at the 2015 U.S. Women's Open bowled 24 games over three
days, while the top third of the field had eight more games to fight for a spot in the
top 24, who advanced for 24 games of round-robin match play.
Bowlmor AMF, the largest operator of bowling centers in the world, is hosting and
providing television sponsorship of more than $250,000 for the U.S. Women's Open
and the 2015 Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open, which will be held at AMF Garland Lanes in
suburban Dallas/Fort Worth, Nov. 2-8.

Checking the Fit of Your Bowling Ball
There are three priorities you must consider before you roll a ball: 1) Correct fit; 2)
Timing and coordination in your approach; and 3) The best weight you can handle.
So this article will help find the best fit for your ball. Try to put your thumb all the way
down into the thumb hole and rotate it quickly. If you can do this, your thumb hole is
just fine. If you cannot do this, then take it to a ball driller and have enough taken out of
the thumb so you can rotate your thumb easily.
Next you must check the span or grip. Put you thumb back into the thumb hole all
the way—lay your hand and fingers, stretched, over the two finger holes. Look at the
center of the holes UNDER your fingers, mark the center of the holes with a pencil on
the side of your fingers. This mark determines how far to insert your fingers.
Now insert your fingers up to this mark and then your thumb. Your thumb should go
into the thumb hole easily. Never force your thumb or stretch it to get it into the thumb
hole.
Your thumb steers the ball, so, therefore, it must come out of the thumb hole easily.
Take a moment and hold your hand out in front of you in a shake-hands position.
You will see that your thumb is shorter than your fingers. So keep thinking about that
when you deliver the ball—thumb out, fingers lift the ball.

Q. I just turned 70 and I am noticing that I get very tired by the time the 3 rd game
begins. I use a 16 pound ball and I like the carry I get with the ball. My friends are
telling me that maybe I should go down in weight. What will this do to my carry?

Q. I am having problems adjusting to the lane conditions where I bowl league. I am
OK during the first game I hit the pocket and carry is good. After about two or three
frames of the 2nd game I can't get the ball to the pocket. It goes light or leaves the
ten pin. Then when the 3rd game starts the ball begins to hook at release. I only
bowl once a week and this has me lost. What should I do to be more consistent?
A. What is happening to you is a common problem. The first game you are on fresh
oil and all is well. Then the oil pattern changes due to play. The oil starts to move
around. Some carry down happens the oil goes down the lane a bit. It is being transferred by the bowling balls to the once drier back ends of the lane. This causes the
ball to delay it's back end reaction an it goes light or does not finish as hard and
leaves the ten pin. So to combat this you must move right just a little maybe one
board this will get the ball into a little earlier roll and it should then finish to the
pocket. In the third game the head portion of the lane starts to dry out and causes
the ball to start hooking very early. This causes it to go high each shot. Now you
have to move left and not just a a board. You will need to find more head oil so you
may need as much as a 4 to five board move with your feet and a 2 board move
with your mark on the lane. This will get you into more fresh oil to stop the early ball
reaction. This is just a guide line to go by. You may need a little less of a move or a
little more. For lefty's make the opposite moves.
Q. I have been bowling for 12 years now. For the first 7 or 8 years my average improved each year. But now I am starting to lose ground. My average has dropped
the last 2 years. It is getting very frustrating. How can I get my game back on track?
A. There are ups and down's in every sport and bowling is no different. What is different in bowling is that bowlers in most cases don't seem to think that they
need Coaching. In all other sports the key to improving is instruction and practice.
In bowling we just think we can wing it. So my suggestion is go to your local bowling center or pro shop and ask them about a series of lessons. You will find that
bowling lessons are not expensive and very valuable. You can get 5 or 6 one on
one lessons in most cases for less than the price of a new ball. The lessons will
last you a lifetime. Then try bowling more than once a week get in a little practice.
Pay special attention to your spare shooting and I guarantee your average will increase. As will your enjoyment of the game.
A. By all means go down in weight. Today's bowling balls are very powerful and you
probably won't notice any difference in pin carry with a 15 pound ball. That one
pound will make a big difference in keeping your energy level up. You will feel better
and have more ball speed and better control. This will add up to better scoring overall. Most pro's today are using 15 pound balls.

―What the heck.‖ That simple thought led to a decision that forever changed
Nancy Savioni‘s life. She decided to purchase a second Powerball ticket and
ended up winning $1,771,065!
―I was just sitting there kind of numb going, ‗Oh my gosh,‘‖ Nancy explained. ―I
kept looking at the ticket and checking it, checking it, checking it… going, ‗oh my
gosh I really did win.‘‖
Nancy really did win and it was on that second ticket. Here‘s what happened: On
the Sunday before the September 30th draw, Nancy‘s husband, Duane, bought
$20 worth of Powerball tickets. Then a few days later on Wednesday, Nancy was at
the store picking up a few more things. After checking out, she had $8 left. ―I
thought the Powerball is $300 [million], I might as well buy another ticket. What the
heck.‖ So she bought $8 worth of Powerball tickets and on the second line matched
five of six numbers to win $1.7 million.
When she called Duane to tell him the good news, he didn‘t believe her. ―I told
him and he goes, ‗Are you punking me?‘ and I said ‗No, I‘m not punking you.‘‖
Once Duane came around, the two started thinking about the money, but made
sure not to get too ahead of themselves.
―I was joking with her and said, ‗OK honey, it‘s not Oprah money,‘‖ Duane said
with a chuckle. He later added that the money was actually going to make their
lives a little easier. And Nancy agreed, saying, ―I think it‘s going to make us comfortable.‖

Following the announcement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic
Committee (TOC) this morning, World Bowling is saddened
to announce that the sport of bowling has not been recommended for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Although this is a big disappointment, World Bowling fully
respects the TOC’s decision and believes that bowling’s time
to join the Olympic Movement will come sooner rather than later. The process undergone over the past few months was valuable and tangible recommendations will be
taken away to strengthen the sport of bowling in the future.
President Kevin Dornberger (pictured above third from left) said ―It was a great opportunity to have been considered as one of the final eight sports from the initial list of
26. For World Bowling this remains a huge milestone in pursuing our Olympic quest
and we believe that this has laid the foundations for a brighter future ahead.
The process has made our sport grow stronger and we have learned some invaluable lessons from working on our campaign. While we may not have been successful
this time, we will continue to develop our sport worldwide. As part of our Bowling
World Plan, we have many initiatives still to be implemented such as fostering and
encouraging the development of youth participation, especially for girls. We strongly
believe that this will result in increasing the worldwide recognition of our sport. The
brightest days of bowling are ahead of us!‖
Along this journey World Bowling has received so much support from fans, athletes.
This outpour of support has strengthened the bowling community and inspired new
generations of athletes. We would like to thank all of the supporters for their commitment to the sport of bowling and of course we thank the TOC and wish them the very
best for what we are certain will be excellent Olympic Games in 2020.
World Bowling will be welcoming a number of exciting events in the coming years
including the Women’s World Championships in Abu Dhabi in 2015 and the 2016
World Youth Championships and 2016 World Singles Championships.

PBA Spare Shots: PBA‘s 2014-15 ESPN Ratings Up 23%, Male 18-49 Viewers

PBA television ratings on ESPN for 2014-15 not only showed a 23 percent increase in viewership, but made important gains in valuable demographics, PBA
CEO and Commissioner Tom Clark said.
Newly-released ratings data comparing the overall 2014-15 PBA telecasts on
ESPN to the 2013-14 season showed ratings gains in desirable areas such as
males age 18-49, which was up 55 percent. The combined male-female audience in both the 18-34 and 18-49 age groups were up 50 percent year-overyear.
―It’s an exciting time for the PBA,‖ Clark said. ―These numbers are rarely
achieved in sports TV and are very encouraging. They are both valuable and
attractive to sponsors and partners. The PBA’s mix of exciting players including
Hall of Famers, international stars and former collegiate players making their
mark in increasingly diverse and prestigious events,
plus the continued support of ESPN have the PBA
positioned for further growth.‖
The new PBA on ESPN schedule begins Dec. 17,
with a special Thursday, 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT) live
telecast of the PBA World Championship from the
GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VII at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada.

USBC Raises Bar For Competition
Integrity With The U.S. Open

Host center for Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open provides new model for
USBC championships by improving lanes to top specification quality
ARLINGTON, Texas – Bowlmor AMF, the largest operator of bowling centers in the
world, in collaboration with the United States Bowling Congress and the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America, will provide a new level of lane integrity for bowlers
at the 2015 Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open.
Bowlmor AMF worked with USBC and Lane Analytics to complete a comprehensive
topography evaluation of the lanes at host center AMF Garland Lanes, ahead of the
event that will take place Nov. 2-8 in Garland, Texas.
Each board of every lane was inspected and leveled every three feet in 18 locations
per lane. As a result, 99 percent of the crowns and depressions plus cross-tilts are
within twenty-thousandths of an inch of flat. This dramatically exceeds USBC’s minimum standard of forty-thousandths of an inch using three inspection locations per
lane. ―Bowlmor AMF is committed to competitive bowling and playing a leading role in
moving the sport forward in a positive way,‖ Bowlmor AMF Vice President of Leagues
Jay Lietman said. ―We are proud to create a world-class venue for the U.S. Open and
strive to provide an exceptional experience for our league bowlers across the country
as well.‖
Details of the U.S. Open lane pattern also are designed to achieve a higher level of
competition integrity. The lane pattern will not be revealed until immediately before
official practice at AMF Garland Lanes. Additionally, there will be no re-oiling of the
lanes between squads.
―From an integrity perspective, Bowlmor AMF has provided a venue of the same
high quality you find with a custom installation such as the USBC Open Championships,‖ USBC Executive Director Chad Murphy said. ―With no information being provided about the pattern in advance of the event and also no re-oiling procedure during the event, we have taken a step further to leveling the playing field. Multiple angles will need to be played throughout the event to be successful. It’s exciting to think
about and I’m looking forward to it.‖
USBC plans to use the partnership model developed with Bowlmor AMF to improve
lane topography for future host centers of championship events. Limiting the release
of lane pattern information already is standard practice for the Professional Women’s
Bowling Association Tour, Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championships and
most recently, the 2016 Junior Gold Championships.
While many equate a golf scorecard to bowling’s pattern information, Murphy explained a golf scorecard doesn’t change, since yardages are always the same, but
bowling patterns migrate on top of the lane with every shot so it’s not static and is
always evolving.
―The static piece in bowling is topography of the lane,‖ Murphy said. ―In golf, the
scorecard or yardage book that a PGA professional receives the morning of competition is the topography while the pattern is the rough, the speed of the green and the
wind. In bowling, the lane map is the topography while the pattern is the factor that
changes from shot to shot. For the 2015 Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open, we have done the
work to ensure the lanes are in championship condition by making sure the lanes are
well within specification. We also are delivering a scorecard to competitors. You can

With winter leagues in full swing, scores are flying
through the roof here at Pacific Ave. Bowl. Bowlers are
trying to break out to an early lead in the standings
before the winter half ends. Bowlers like Stephan Klitz
300, Jacob Setchell 300, Ste3ve Davis 279/809, Jason
Lindholm 279/803, Chris Rose 300/796, and Jon Hungerford 299 are just to name a few.
Those scores are bit, but top dog honors of this month
go to Jason Yong. Rolling back to back 279 games
wasn’t enough on this Wednesday morning. Jason
followed it up by rolling a perfect 300 game in the third
for a huge 858 3 game set. But wait, he wasn’t done.
For Jason’s fourth game, he tallied a big 256, ending
his day with a whopping 1114 four game set. Not bad
seeing he hadn’t thrown a bowling ball in two months.
Mind you, his last series he shot two months before
was an 803. It was something special to watch, let me
tell you!

We have some Fundraisers coming up this month. On
October 24th from 12-4pm CCSS will be having their
annual fundraiser for the Chinese New Year Parade in
Downtown Stockton. And on October 25th from 1-5pm
we have a Fundraiser to support the firefighters that

For Upcoming Events
Winter leagues are now nearing their first position round. It is
really unbelievable how quick time goes by. We have been hosting some tournaments and if you haven’t checked out our website you can go there for the tournament information or results.
The next one will be on Saturday October 31 st and it is the Doubles Eliminator at 10:00 am.
Starting this with the first week of night leagues August 29 th
Chad Hasenbuhler rolled a 279 745 in the Shooting Stars and
Doug Leeworthy posted a 298 759 in the Thursday Mens Classic.
In the week of September 5th in the Peace Officers league we
had Gary Lee with games of 256, 299 and 268 for an 823 series.
Brad Lillard rolled a 279 777 in the same league. In the Thursday Mens Classic we had David Gray with a 279 717 and Robbie
Morris 299 727. Ricardo Rios rolled his 287 in the Don’t Worry
Be Happy league. Rolling a 288 game with a 758 series was
Zach Haddad in the Tracy Ford West Laners Mixed. Val VonElsner rolled her 279 game in the Tracy Ford Belles and Beaus.
The Peace Officer Day League in the week of September 12 th
had Errol Crumpton with a 279, Barry Richards 289 727, Al Duncan 300 and AJ Clemens 300 702. In the night leagues we had
Andrew Carteret with a 279 753 in the Sunday Nite Mixed. Harry
Fong rolled a 288 game with a 758 series in the Monday Junior
Adult. David Gray rolled a 290 game in the Don’t Worry Be
Happy League. In the Budweiser/Chase Chevrolet Classic we
had Richard Sartain with a 289 733, Josh Lagorio 279, Rodney
Woodard 289 719 and Barry Richards 300 782. Anthony Scott
rolled his first 300 game in the Thursday Mens Classic; also in
this league was Harrison Fong with a 287 game and 707 series.
Zach Haddad rolled his 279 779 in the Tracy Ford West Laners,
and Keith Jorgenson with a 192 average posted a 287 game in
the T.N.B.A. league.
The week of September 19th had Shawn Garrison with a 290
game in the Sunday Nite Mixed. Rob Caselli had two 279’s in
the Don’t Worry Be Happy league with a 777 series. Robert Sartain rolled a 288 714 in the Budweiser/Chase Chevrolet Classic.
Alex Amescua rolled his first 300 game in the Mexican American.
In the Bourbon St. Men is where Melvin Morehead rolled a 199
game with a 730 series. Rodney Woodard rolled his 279 game
with a730 series in the Tracy Ford West Laners, and in the
T.N.B.A. league we had Antoine Allmon with a 279 718, Kenneth
Knight 279 780, Justin Zulueta 280 700, and Danny Lew with
games of 223, 278 and 300 for a very nice 801 series.

The winter league is well underway and the scores they
are rolling just keep rising and rising. A lot of the bowlers
are coming in and practicing for the Special Olympics so
mark November 13th on your calendar and we hope you will
be here to support your favorites.
The week of September 7th Damie Hoornaert rolled a
195 game and Shanna Landreth was 46 pins over for her 2
game series. Don Seward had the man’s high game with a
182 and Tomas Sanchez was 36 pins over his series.
September 14th week number 2 Cheryl Dodson and
Damie Hoornaert tied for the high game for the ladies with
a 137. Shanna Landreth was over again this week with 63
pins. For the men it was Vincent Duggan with a 194 and
Pete Godoy was 26 pins over for his 2 game series.
In week number 3 September 21st Damie Hoornaert
rolled a 157 for the high game and Virginia Hawkins was 59
pins over for her series. For the men it was Don Seward
with a 169 game and Perry Hazlett was 50 pins over in
series.
Last but not in the week of September 28 th Damie Hoornaert posted a 150 game for the ladies high and Susan
Graves was 26 pins over in her series. Tomas Sanchez
had the high game with a 178 and Vincent Duggan was 51
pins over in his series.

We had 28 bowlers this past Sunday September 20th
for the Yosemite Lanes Scratch 6 Gamer on the PBA
Scorpion Pattern (47 feet). The qualifying was lead by
Darren Tang out of San Francisco who shot 1447 for
his 6 games (a 241). This includes Darren's tremendous last 3 games of 252, 289, 300 (841). With that
finish he flew by David Street of Fresno (1438) , and
Will Garber of Modesto (1423) to claim the top seed.
But despite all of that great bowling this day belonged
to Kevin Harlin of Milpitas. Kevin qualify for the stepladder finals as the #4 seed with a 1385 6 game total,
then steam rolled #5 Freddy Irvin of Modesto,
Will Garber, Street, and the top seed Darren Tang to
win his first Yosemite Lanes 6 Gamer since 2010 and
$322.00. The win also secures Kevin a spot into the
2015 Yosemite Lanes Tournament of Champions. Congratulations to Kevin and all the other cashers.

2015 World Bowling Senior
Championships

ARLINGTON, Texas - The top senior players from 33
countries made their way to Las Vegas to compete at
the 2015 World Bowling Senior Championship.
The 2015 event featured more than 200 men and
women age 50 and older vying to take home medals in
singles, doubles, team, all-events and Masters competition at Sam's Town Bowling Center.
The U.S. men's team features Lennie Boresch Jr. of
Kenosha, Wisconsin, Bob Learn Jr. of Lantana, Florida,
Ron Mohr of North Las Vegas, Nevada, and Johnny
Petraglia of Jackson, New Jersey.
The U.S. women's team includes Tish Johnson of
Colorado Springs, Colorado, Robin Romeo of Newhall,
California, Lucy Sandelin of Tampa, Florida, and Paula
Vidad of Sun City, California.
The World Bowling Senior Championships debuted in
2013, also in Las Vegas, and the U.S. squad claimed a
total of six gold medals at the inaugural event.
Mohr, a two-time Professional Bowlers Association 50
Player of the Year, is the only returning player on the
men's side after winning gold medals in doubles and all
-events, while a trio of United States Bowling Congress
Hall of Famers, Johnson, Romeo and Sandelin, return
for the women's team..
Romeo captured the all-events and Masters titles at
the 2013 event, while Sandelin took home a medal in
every event, including gold in singles.
Both the men's and women's U.S. teams fell short of
winning gold in the team event in 2013. Sweden swept
the titles as the U.S. men took silver and the U.S.
women earned bronze.
"I was proud to medal in every event, but was a little
disappointed we came up short, winning the bronze in
the team event," said Sandelin, who became the first
U.S. woman to win the QubicaAMF World Cup in 1976.
"As with previous Team USA events, winning the gold
medal in the team event is always our ultimate goal.
We've had two years to compete at various events and
have seen each other's game and plan to share our
knowledge with each other to play the lanes smart. The
bond and respect we have for each other should help
us combat any challenges that come our way."
Singles, doubles and team competition at the 2015
World Bowling Senior Championships will consist of six
qualifying games to determine the four players who will
advance to the championship round. The combined
qualifying totals from singles, doubles and team will
determine medalists for all-events.
The top 24 players in the all-events standings will advance to Masters. An additional six games will cut the
field to the top eight, followed by round-robin match
play. The top four scores including bonus pins will advance to the championship round.
The championship round consists of a one-game
semifinal round featuring the No. 1 seed taking on the
No. 4 seed, while the No. 2 seed faces off against the
No. 3 seed. The winner of each match will advance to a
one-game championship match.
The United States swept the men's and women's team
titles Saturday.
In the men's final, the U.S. took advantage of some
early miscues by Australia as they coasted to an 887675 victory at Sam's Town Bowling Center. The
women's gold-medal match went down to the final
frame, with the U.S. outlasting Mexico, 785-754.
The U.S. men's team quickly distanced themselves
from their opponent after all four Australian players
were unable to mark in the fourth frame. The U.S.
never let off the gas as they were led by Ron Mohr, the
only returning member from the U.S. team that won
silver at the 2013 event, who fired a 278 game. Mohr
was joined by Johnny Petraglia (212), Lennie Boresch
Jr. (210) and Bob Learn Jr. (187).
m "This was everything," said Mohr, who won gold
medals in doubles and all-events in 2013. "Two years
ago, we missed the team gold, which is the objective.
To capture it this year and see the guys' reactions, it's
as good as it gets."
The win capped off a resilient performance by the
U.S. squad, which started the final round of qualifying
Saturday nearly 120 pins out of the medal round before
averaging more than 225 as a team in their final two
games to move into third with a six-game total of 4,972.
The U.S. men defeated Sweden, which bested them
in the 2013 title match, in the semifinal to advance to
the championship round, 859-805, while Australia,
which led qualifying with 5,087, rolled over Canada,
858-713. Sweden and Canada earned bronze medals.
Neither team backed down in the women's title match,
as both the U.S. and Mexico continued to keep the
pressure on one another throughout the entire game.
The U.S. team, featuring Tish Johnson (214), Lucy
Sandelin (201), Robin Romeo (193) Paula Vidad (177),
held the advantage as both teams started the 10th
frame, and did what they needed to secure the win.
The U.S. women's team paced qualifying with a 4,861
total, and defeated Australia in the semifinal, 821-707,
to earn their spot in the finals. Mexico edged out defending champion Sweden in the other semifinal, 765746. Australia and Sweden took home bronze.
The all-events medalists also were determined Saturday as Sandelin and Canada's John Chapman secured
gold medals by posting the highest 18-game totals from
singles, doubles and team qualifying.
Sandelin, a USBC Hall of Famer, cruised to the gold
by nearly 150 pins over the rest of the women's field
with a 3,756 total. Sweden's Susanne Olsson took silver with 3,617, All-events champion Robin Romeo
moved from fifth to third in her final game to earn
bronze with 3,542.
"I'm a big student of the mental game, and really try to
focus on the process and not the result," said Sandelin,
who also has won gold in doubles and bronze in singles this week. "If you focus on the process, the result
takes care of itself. I wasn't focusing on all-events. I just
wanted to take it one
shot at a time and
cover my spares, and
that's why I think I did
so well. I've worked
very hard to get here,
and it feels awesome.
Rawley Wins Singles Gold At 2015
World Bowling Senior Championships

LAS VEGAS - Australia's Andrew Frawley
took home the men's singles title Tuesday at
the 2015 World Bowling Senior Championships.
The 51-year-old right-hander got off to an
early advantage in the championship match
against top seed Todd Sim of Canada and
never looked back, claiming the gold medal
with a 224-183 victory at Sam's Town Bowling Center.
Frawley started the match with four consecutive strikes as Sim stayed clean but was
unable to double. Frawley nearly opened the
window after leaving a 3-6-7-10 split in the sixth frame, but he converted it to keep
Sim at bay.
"I had a pretty good ball reaction in practice, so I was feeling relatively confident,"
Frawley said. "I was really trying to burn up a spot to roll it into, and it really started
to roll early. I had to make a move and was a little late. So, I made the move, and
Tom got a little unlucky with a few taps, so I relaxed after that."
A 4-7-10 split in the ninth from Sim ended any hope of a comeback as Frawley
brought Australia its first gold medal at the World Bowling Senior Championships.
Sim, who lead qualifying with a 1,415 six-game total, earned the silver medal for his
performance.
Frawley advanced to the semifinals as the No. 3 seed after posting a 1,339 total in
qualifying. He defeated Scotland's Alan Keddie, 215-211, to earn his spot in the
championship match.
Sim advanced to the final by besting fellow Canadian John Chapman, 243-206, in
the other semifinal. Keddie and Chapman both earned bronze medals.
Ron Mohr of the United States just missed advancing to the semifinals, finishing
qualifying in fifth with 1,297. Lennie Boresch Jr. placed seventh with 1,270, while
Johnny Petraglia (1,106) and Bob Learn Jr. (1,074) finished outside of the top 50.
The World Bowling Senior Championships features more than 200 male and female participants age 50 and older from 33 countries vying for medals in singles,
doubles, team, all-events and Masters competition.

United States, Colombia Win Doubles At 2015

LAS VEGAS - United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famer Lucy Sandelin and
Paula Vidad won the gold medal in women's doubles at the 2015 World Bowling
Senior Championships, while Colombia's Nicolas Ruiz and Julio Soto took the men's
title at Sam's Town Bowling Center on Thursday.
In the women's final, Sandelin and Vidad topped Germany's Martina Beckel and
Gisela Insinger, 430-417. In the men's title match, Ruiz and Soto recorded an exciting one-pin victory over Canada's John Chapman and Ray Vervynck, 429-428.
The U.S. women saw Germany take the early advantage, but five consecutive
strikes in the middle of the title tilt from Vidad gave the United States the edge as
the match headed into the homestretch.
"When I get pumped up, it helps me throw better shots, and it got us going," said
Vidad, who finished the game with 218 as she celebrated her 56th birthday. "We're
a great team. I couldn't be happier. This is the best birthday ever."
Sandelin rolled consecutive strikes of her own in the eighth, ninth and 10th as she
bested her silver-medal performance in doubles from the 2013 tournament with
teammate Tish Johnson.
"I've had two years to think about coming in second and getting silver," said San-
delin, who added 212 to the winning total. "I've been waiting for this day, and really
just tried to take it one shot at a time. I even said to myself that this is why I've been
practicing every time at home. I've been looking forward to this day for two years,
and it's awesome to be standing there with that gold medal around my neck with
Paula."
Sandelin and Vidad, who led qualifying with a six-game total of 2,419, made the
finals with a victory over Canada's France Joubert and Jill Friis, 414-372, in the
semifinal match. Beckel and Insinger cruised into the finals with a 420-343 win
over USBC Hall of Famers Robin Romeo and Johnson. Canada and the United
States took home bronze medals.
Neither doubles pair relented in the men's championship game as Canada held a
14-pin advantage entering the final frame. Ruiz delivered three strikes to start the
10th for Colombia, reducing the deficit to three pins as anchors Soto and Vervynck
stepped up.
"I knew how close the match was going to be," said Ruiz, who finished with a 215
game. "I made an adjustment for the last frame and got three strikes."
Both Soto and Vervynck delivered strikes to start the 10th frame. Soto left the 1-58-9 combination on his second offering, giving Vervynck the opportunity to get nine
or better on his second shot to secure the title. Vervynck left the 3-9-10 split, giving
both players the chance to spare to force a tie. Soto recorded the mark, while Vervynck only was able to knock down the 9 and 10 pins to send the gold to Colombia.
Chapman and Vervynck earned silver medals. "I knew I had to make the spare,"
said Soto, who added 214 to the effort. "I needed it, and I made it. I'm very happy."
The Colombians, who also made the medal round by a single pin to qualify fourth
with a combined six-game total of 2,447, defeated USBC Hall of Famers Lennie
Boresch Jr. and Johnny Petraglia in the semifinals to advance to the title match, 391
-358. Petraglia and Boresch led qualifying with 2,656.
Chapman and Vervynck earned their spot in the finals by defeating Australia's
Robert Chinner and Shaun Cummings, 434-395. The United States and Australia
earned bronze medals.
Ron Mohr and Bob Learn Jr. of the United States missed advancing to the medal
round by just 15 pins, but finished ninth overall with 2,432. Mohr and Hugh Miller
teamed for the doubles title at the 2013 tournament.

Gary Brown Managing Director Of IBC
Youth Development

Gary Brown has been named managing director of International
Bowling Campus (IBC) Youth Development, supervising all United
States Bowling Congress (USBC) and Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA) youth programs. Brown will report to the executive directors of USBC and BPAA.
Brown moves into his new role from director of collegiate programs
and youth tournaments. He has been part of the IBC staff since 1999
in roles including event management, rules counselor, and director of
high school and collegiate.
“We have made great strides since merging the operations of BPAA
and USBC youth programs under IBC Youth,” BPAA Executive Director Frank DeSocio said. “Gary has a proven track record of great
collaboration with all industry
stakeholders and we believe he is
a great fit.”
Brown also brings television
event experience to the job, having worked for CBS and ESPN in
various production roles of live
telecasts. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in sports marketing/
management and a master’s degree in sports management and
athletic administration from Indiana University. Also was a member of the Hoosiers varsity bowling team.
“The recent success and growth
of collegiate bowling and national
youth tournaments demonstrates
Gary’s ability to succeed in this
role,” USBC Executive Director
Chad Murphy said. “He brings the
perspective of a lifelong bowler
along with the business experience needed to lead this critical
part of the IBC team.”

Harley Sweigart and Samantha Conti survived tough roads to JBT titles in exciting Mojave Conference action at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas.
Sweigart qualified second to last for the 'super-survivor' portion of the tournament, where the low game and low series are eliminated each game, meaning
he was always in double-danger of being eliminated. He scraped by the early
rounds though, and then stepped on the gas, firing 257 with four bowlers remaining, to pass Nick Devlin on pinfall, while Nick Pollak's 202 was the low
game, eliminating the Nicks third and fourth.
That left Harley to play Cortez Schenck, who although never leading a round,
was always right behind the leaders. He also had to survive a do-or-die moment
early in super-survivor, as he avoided low game with a clutch tenth frame double. From there he cruised, but seeking a sweep of the weekend, he was unable to keep up with Sweigart, who poured on second-half strikes for a 247-182
title match win, and the 8th title of his JBT career.
Fifteen handicap survivors were carved down to six, and in that round Nicole
Baranowki bowed out with low game, while Douglas Csanyi and Jopfel Gafate
were eliminated as the lowest two total series (though 'low' gets pretty high by
that round). That left both Reyes entries, RJ and LeeAnn, as well as Samantha
Conti, remaining. Conti blasted a 240 semifinal game to advance to the finals,
while LeeAnn's 214 fell to brother RJ's 229, advancing RJ to the final as well.
Reyes struggled in the title match, and Conti took advantage for a 219-163 win
and the second title of her JBT career.
LeeAnn's day wasn't over, as she then took on Rachael Berg for the day's
Women's Series title. In that

New Schedule Part Of Junior
Gold Championships
Improvements

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Junior Gold Championships will expand its schedule by a day in 2016,
one of several improvements that will provide a
better experience for both competitors and attendees, and to prepare for continued growth of the
event.
“As we started to see the record participation in
Junior Gold last season, we put together a targeted
survey to the bowlers themselves and commissioned a task force comprised of volunteer leaders,
Junior Gold coordinators, former bowlers and staff
to lay out “what’s next” for Junior Gold,” said Chad
Murphy, United States Bowling Congress Executive
Director. “We are really proud to see such great
response to the surveys and a clear direction from
the task force to enhance the experience and build
toward a brighter future for the sport through this
event.”
The 2016 Junior Gold Championships presented
by Storm, Roto Grip and Master will take place July
15-23 in Indianapolis. Five bowling centers will be
used for competition: Western Bowl, Expo Bowl,
Woodland Bowl, All Star Bowl and Southern Bowl.
The extra day of competition allows for additional
squads with the TV finals for the event on Saturday, July 23.
The competition will have two practice days (July
16-17) before qualifying for all divisions – Under 12,
Under 15 and Under 20 boys and girls divisions –
get underway. Competitors then will bowl four
games each day over four days for a total of 16
qualifying games before the first cut is made. Previously, the event had 15 games of qualifying over
three days for U15 and U20 divisions, and 12 qualifying games for the U12 divisions.
The new schedule will allow the tournament to
have additional squads. This will mean fewer bowlers on each pair, will make the centers more accessible for family and friends, and will set up the tournament for additional growth.
“The Junior Gold Championships has seen tremendous growth and the improvements that will
take place in 2016 will ensure youth bowlers and
their families will have an outstanding tournament
experience,” said Gary Brown, International Bowling Campus Managing Director of Youth Development. “Last year, a national TV audience had the
opportunity to see what this event has to offer and we expect to see the Junior Gold program continue to grow.”
During the 2014-2015 season, the Junior Gold program
shattered its all-time membership mark with more than
6,200 members and the 2015 Junior Gold Championships
saw more than 3,400 youth bowlers qualify for the tournament. The 2014 tournament drew just under 2,500 bowlers.
In addition to the new schedule, bowlers will be limited to
five bowling balls for competition, one less than previously
allowed. Junior Gold is a steppingstone to collegiate competition and the new rule is meant to keep the event in line
with collegiate bowling, which limits participants to five balls
in post-season play. The event also has adopted the collegiate dress code, allowing females to wear skirts, skorts
and shorts.
The lane patterns for the Junior Gold Championships,
which previously were released during practice sessions,
will not be released until after competition. The lane patterns will remain Sport compliant.
“The task force recommended some exciting changes
which focuses on athlete skill development,” Brown said.
“We have seen this type of focus at the collegiate level and
look forward to a similar enhancement for Junior Gold.”
Competitors also should note there will be two registration
