Pile drivers, body slams and bloodshed were some of
the stunts performed by the National Wrestling
Coalition Saturday night.
The fundraising event for the Project Action
Foundation went over well at the Martin Luther King
Jr. University Union Ballroom, said Mitch Saret, who
was responsible for coordinating the event.
Approximately 230 people attended the event, which
raised $500 for the Project Action Foundation, a group
that encourages children to get involved in extracurricular activities.
Saret said he’s had the idea to do a fundraiser involving professional wrestling for a while and decided to
choose Eastern because he lives in Charleston.
“I was looking for somewhere in a larger town, but I

live here and thought it would be a good way to raise
money,” Saret said.
Jeff Collier, a senior political science major, said the
event was fun and entertaining.
“It takes a certain kind of athlete to put their body on
the line,” Collier said about the wrestlers’ performances.
He also said the storylines made the matches more
intense and found it interesting to watch because he
hadn’t seen professional wrestling in a long time.
The main event of the night was an hour-long cage
match between professional wrestlers Lucky Dane, who
came out of retirement for the match, and Homicidal
Steven Davis.
Lucky Dane prevailed as champion over his archrival.
Saret was optimistic about the event returning to
Eastern for a performance in the fall.
“The Eastern staff couldn’t have been better,” Saret
said.
