Record Book Help Sheet
I have my record book – Now What?
Take a moment to look through your record book to know what kind of records
and receipts you need to keep.
Make a plan or create a system on how and when you are going to do your
record book entries.
Keep the pen or pencil you plan to use with your record book so that everything
is done in the same color.
How is my Record Book judged?
Each book is judged individually and not against another book.
Books are judged by 4-H Agents and 4-H Leaders from other counties.
Judges look for:
Neatness
Accuracy
The child’s own handwriting
Creative stories
Pictures and captions that show the whole project
What should be included with my record book:
Cover page- If your record book does not have a place for a picture of you, your
age, and years in 4-H, then you should create a cover sheet with this
information on it.
Every page of your record book should be filled out to your best ability. If a
page does not apply to you simple write N/A on that page.
Story – If your record book does not ask for a story, you should include one at
the end. Your story should be written in your own handwriting and tell about
your 4-H year.
Pictures – You should have at least 5 pictures of you and your project. They
should be placed neatly on a sheet of paper with captions by each one of
them.
The General Appearance of your Record Book –
Your Record Book should be neat and clean:
In a folder for easy access.
Written in the same pen or pencil throughout.
If you have any questions please call Tycee at the UF IFAS Glades County
Extension Office at 863-946-0244.
