Cases of Life, the collection of objects for contemporary nomads
The new curatorship and service platform Open Design Italia Factory presents,
during a talk at Bologna Water Design, Cases of Life, the pilot project involving six
designers among the winners of Open Design Italia and nine craftsmen selected by
CNA Vicenza
September the 23rd at 8,30 pm, Conference Hall Ex Ospedale dei Bastardini, Via d’Azeglio 41
OPEN DESIGN ITALIA FACTORY
It’s not the first project encouraging the tight collaboration between designers and craftsmen. However,
what has been missing so far is the coordination among the two subjects involved and the curatorship of
a wide-ranging project throughout all the phases, including the sale. This is the crucial role Open Design
Italia Factory that, with the pilot project Cases of Life, wants to boost a new form of business network in
which craftsmen, designers and curators are equally involved. The work done so far contributed to built a
good methodology that can be improved and replicated in order to built similar co-operations between
designers and craftsmen, who rarely share the same language.
Cases of Life has been developed by the Open Design Italia team with CNA Vicenza (National Craftsmanship
Confederation in Vicenza) and with the support of the Vicenza Chamber of Commerce and of EBAV during
the analysis and presentation phases of the collection.

CASES OF LIFE
The collection is a set of modular and interchangeable containers for the kitchen, bathroom and office,
designed for a nomadic life: between changing apartments and cities and between workplaces that are
increasingly shared and flexible. Reflecting transforming global scenarios, the cases solve everyday
situations, as well as life events.
Everything in one case. They are composed by a larger case common to all three contexts, which contains
smaller boxes made of ceramic, wood, glass and metal, each provided with a lid which can be used for
specific functions after it has been removed. They can be customized, moved from one set to the other or
bought separately.
Cases of Life is an elegant collection, characterized by modern and sophisticated design and artisanal
production. The different nature of the various materials employed is a fundamental characteristic. It is a
collection that aims to grow, introducing new objects and contexts of use and involving other designers and
craftsmen.
