In 2009, the first ever women’s World Twenty20 was held
alongside the men’s event, with double headers of matches
played at the semi-finals and Final stage. Host country
England won the inaugural World Women’s Twenty20.
The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars head into Sri Lanka
as the defending champions having beaten New Zealand in a
thrilling 2010 Final in the West Indies by three runs.

The women’s group stage will be based in Galle with matches
being played at Galle International Stadium. As with previous
years the semi-finals and Finals will be played as double
headers concurrently with the men’s stages of competition at

In 50 words, introduce yourself to the world
I’ve loved being a part of the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars for the past decade. My identical
twin sister Kate and I are the first identical twins to play cricket for Australia. When I’m not on the
cricket field you can find me outdoors either surfing, fishing, or mountain biking.
What was your most recent performance
in a domestic tournament?
One run in the 2011/12 Women’s National Cricket League final between NSW and Victoria.
When did you first represent your country
in a cricket match/series?
World series in Lincoln, New Zealand during 2002/03 cricket season.
Relatives who have represented your country
in cricket before?
Kate Blackwell, identical twin sister.
Relatives who have excelled in any other
sport before and the level achieved?
Digger Gibbs (Grandfather) and Daryl Gibbs (Uncle) both represented Australia in clay
target shooting.
Who is your favourite cricketer, and why?
Belinda Clark - great captain, impeccable batting technique and she holds the world record
for highest score in an ODI.
What is your best cricketing moment/
performance to date?
Winning the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in Barbados.
What is the favourite cricket ground you
have played on, and why?
SCG - Some great memories of winning Women’s National Cricket League titles for NSW and
celebrating in the change rooms. The rooms have remained virtually unchanged since the time
‘The Don’ sat in them.
What is your cricketing ambition?
Win back to back ICC World Twenty20 titles, and win the Women’s World Cup in India.

Soggy. I bowled a ball over the nets when I was in under 12s and went in with socks and shoes
still on and came out all Soggy.
I first starting playing cricket when I was seven. Represented Victoria in all under age teams.
When I’m not at cricket I like to relax with friends and family. I also play AFL footy when I can.
I work as a spare parts interpreter at Werribee Nissan. I was first selected for the Commonwealth
Bank Southern Stars in 2009 and currently am still in the squad.
Made 50 in the T20 final against NSW, which we won.

I’ve played cricket for 11 years, thanks to my brothers and my dad. I have an addiction to ASICS
shoes. Love to play golf, hang with my friends and family when I don’t have cricket and I love

My brothers, Adam and Scott both play for the Sydney Thunder. Scott has also in past seasons
been a contracted NSW Speed player.
Ricky Ponting, I love the way he plays the game. He’s smart, backs his own ability and his teammates.

Beep - when I was little my uncle used to press on my nose and go “beep” and it just stuck,
I even went to kindy and thought that was my real name!
I love loads of sports and cricket is the one I have been fortunate enough to have the most success
in. I especially love anything in the outdoors. A recent trip to Spain traveling the countryside on
motorbikes and with only a tent and backpack is one of my most favorite holidays so far.

My sister was very talented as a young girl throughout high school and was chosen to represent
Australia at the Junior Athletics Champs in America, as well as representing Australia in Junior
Netball, so I had a pretty competitive upbringing – but in a good way.
It was Andrew Symonds, I used to love watching him in the field, strong, athletic, and dominant,
and any given moment he could turn the game.
Last season in domestic cricket we were down in Tasmania and I scored my first 100, that was
very special and around my old team mates was a real buzz that day.

Jako because I run like a Jack Russell Terrier!
I grew up playing junior boys cricket in Toowoomba when I was about eight, then moved to
Brisbane to attend university after high school and further my cricket goals. I play for Western
Suburbs Cricket Club in Brisbane. I am an identical twin from a family of seven who enjoys keeping
fit, going to the gym, watching movies, walking, cooking when time permits and trying out new
cafes and restaurants. I also love a good latte!
Top dismissals in Women’s National Cricket League 2011-2012 tournament.
2006 – First match was a Test match against India at Adelaide Oval. I really enjoyed the experience!
Have you represented your country in any
other sport before? When and where?
No, but I wish I was a professional tennis player travelling the world playing tournaments like
Wimbledon and the US Open!
Michael Bevan , I loved watching his gutsy style of play, he was always a consistent batsman
and was particularly reliable during tough situations.
Captaining my country in an Ashes Series and scoring my first century for Australia at
Worcestershire in 2009.
Adelaide Oval – great batting wicket and just love the atmosphere of the place. Also love my
home domestic ground, Allan Border Field!

Midge – Dad gave it to me when I was little, it just stuck!
I started playing cricket down at the local park when I was seven and have continued on ever since!
Outside cricket I study Marine Biology at university and play some hockey. I enjoy time at home on
the couch but also spending time with friends!

Shaker – because there have been so many mispronunciations of my name the girls were one day
mucking around and stumbled on this one…it has just stuck ever since.
I started playing cricket with the West Pennant Hill/Cherrybrook U10 boys. I played a number of
sports growing up – tennis, softball, touch footy and indoor cricket.
Won the Women’s National Cricket League trophy scoring 70 odds runs and picking up 3 wickets.
2001, v England.
Sachin Tendulkar – because he has adapted his game to last a couple of decades, small in stature,
extremely successful and I just love watching him bat like most cricketers.
Winning the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2005 (South Africa) and the 2010 ICC World Twenty20
(West Indies).
SCG, because it is the home of cricket for me. The Members and Ladies pavilions are beautiful.
Have a successful year in both the ICC World Twenty20 and the Women’s World Cup and come
away with both trophies for the Breakers.

Cathryn Fitzpatrick Coach
Stuart Law Assistant Coach
Former Australian fast bowler, Cathryn Fitzpatrick comes in to
coach the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars with a wealth of
playing knowledge and experience.
Former Australian and Queensland batsman,
Stuart Law has recently returned to Australia
to work at the Cricket Australia Centre of
Excellence after stints coaching overseas.
Most recently, Law was coach of Bangladesh
and before that was working with Sri Lanka. In
his new role as COE High Performance Coach.
Law has recently returned from coaching the
Australian U19 side to the Final of the ICC
U19 Cricket World Cup in Queensland. In his
playing days, Law played 54 ODIs for Australia
averaging 52, while he also played a sole Test
against Sri Lanka at the WACA in 1995.
Following involvement as the Assistant Coach for three seasons
this is Fitzpatrick’s first campaign at the helm of the Australian team.
The coach of the Victorian Spirit since 2009-2010 she has taken
the side to back-to-back National T20 titles the past three seasons.
Cathryn Fitzpatrick
Coach
A veteran of 109 ODIs and 13 Tests for her country, Fitzpatrick was
regarded as the fastest female bowler in the world, regularly bowling
125 km/h. She was an integral part of a successful Australian team
and retired from international cricket in 2007 with an impressive
180 and 60 wickets in ODIs and Test matches respectively.
