WHY THE HOLLINS FUND IS IMPORTANT
The Hollins Fund provides approximately 10% of
the operating budget. Your gift has an immediate
impact on students through financial aid and
by allowing superior faculty to teach innovative
courses. We continue to have significant increases
in enrollment, a remarkable success that results
in both a brighter future for Hollins and a greater
need for scholarship dollars. Thanks to our
Hollins Fund donors, we have achieved a balanced
budget for 11 consecutive years and continue to
operate without debt, ensuring that Hollins will
be here for generations to come.

REUNION

SCHOLARSHIP DONORS
Each year, donors and family
members who have created
endowed scholarships at
Hollins return to campus for a
luncheon with the students
their gifts support. In April
2015, 73 attendees enjoyed
connecting during this special
campus event.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
T
he Mary Morton Parsons Foundation issued a challenge grant
to Hollins last year, pledging $200,000 if we could raise
$400,000—and with your help, we exceeded this goal! Over
$600,000 in gifts supported new updates to the Moody Student
Center and the Wyndham Robertson Library. Named in honor
of former dean of students Baylies Heron Brewster ’57 (formerly Willey), the new SGA Office on the lower level of the Moody
Center provides ample space for student interaction, and embodies the SGA’s mission of creating channels for communication and cooperation. Meeting this challenge also allowed for
the Hollins bookstore to move to a more accessible space on
the main floor of Moody.
In the Wyndham Robertson Library, the R. Lowell Wine Center
for Learning Excellence now houses the Writing Center and
the Quantitative Reasoning Center. This space includes a large
classroom, a modular tutoring space with whiteboards, and a
seminar classroom.

DAY OF GIVING
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Hollins community
exceeded expectations
once again with the
Hollins Rocks the Clock
day of giving challenge
this past April. An
anonymous donor promised $50,000 if
500 new donors would make a gift in a 24
hour period. The whirlwind day ended
in 683 new donors and a total of $163,000
for the Hollins Fund.

Every gift is a vote for Hollins.
he Secular Society established an inaugural scholarship for
entering students who demonstrate academic competence,
creativity, and a passion for a Hollins education. This scholarship
provides tuition and fees for these select students during their
four years at Hollins. The Secular Society promotes women
and the arts, with an emphasis on mentoring their creative
endeavors throughout their undergraduate education.

A named endowed scholarship provides a permanent opportunity
for Hollins to provide financial support for talented students
who are pursuing their education at Hollins.
• The endowment stands at $171 million as of June 30, 2015.
Hollins’ endowment is the third largest among the institutions
in the Virginia Foundation of Independent Colleges.
• Endowed scholarships can be unrestricted, need based, merit
based, or tied to a specific academic program.
• A minimum of $100,000 is required to endow a scholarship.

The Green and the Gold Society
The Green and the Gold Society recognizes the important
role of alumnae/i, parents, and friends who consistently
support Hollins. Donors to any designation at Hollins for
five or more consecutive years are honored with the 
symbol next to their name in the Class Year, Graduate
Alumnae/i, and Friends and Family lists. Membership is
also extended to recent alumnae/i who have given every year
since graduation.
Marian Wolff Young Society
Named in honor of Marian Wolff Young ’29, who made a
gift to Hollins every year from her graduation until her death
in 2008 – nearly 80 years! The Marian Wolff Young Society
recognizes lifetime giving to Hollins. Donors who give
every year since graduation are recognized with a Y next to
their name in the Class Year lists and receive a ribbon to
wear at Reunion denoting their membership in this society.
