Hunting in
Tanzania
Hunting in Tanzania
...a story of peerless encounters.
Tanzania is without a doubt, one of the most famous and exclusive hunting safari destinations in Africa. The areas Inyonga East, Kilombero Valley, Maasailand, Selous and Lunda of
Kilombero North Safaris Ltd. are the perfect example of all Tanzania has to offer: an incomparable variety of wildlife and stunning vistas. 25% of its land mass is conserved for wildlife
parks and reserves with over 190 appointed hunting blocks. The wildlife is some of most
tremendous of all African countries. Specie availability varies widely across the country and
also includes highly prized rarities.
With the introduction of the new blocks of Kilombero North Safaris Ltd. they are now able
to offer the avid huntsman a larger variety for his sports hunting pursuits.
WING SHOOTING - This traditional pursuit can thoroughly be enjoyed here in Tanzania, particularly in the vast Maasailand. With its immense expansion of flat seemingly endless plains,
it offers an exceptional variety of bird life: Guinea & Spur Fowl, Francolin, Bustard, Dove,
Quail and Sandgrouse, to name but a few.
FALCONRY - If you are an experienced falconer, our concessions offer you the opportunity
to indulge your pursuit in the wilderness of Tanzania. Some of our concession offer exceptional endless savannas with prey such as Steenbok, DikDik, Common Duiker, Guinea and
Spur Fowls, Francolin, Dove, Quail, Sandgrouse. The choice is abundant, allowing many an
occasion for a falcon to hunt.
BOW HUNTING – Kilombero North Safaris hunting blocks offer many opportunities for a
more "traditional" form of hunt, bow hunting. Opportunities abound and enable the bow
enthusiast enthralling experiences.
Weather &
Climate
Depending on where your are in Tanzania, the weather and climate varies considerably,
though generally this is the pattern:
Summer:
Winter:
September to April
May to August
30°C to 20°C
25°C to 19°C
Rainfall: April to May (long rains), November to mid-December (short rains)
Hunting
Season
Runs from 1st July through to 31st March. Kilombero is best hunted in the driest months of
August through to November.
Firearms &
Ammunition
Please bring your own firearms which you are accustomed to. You are permitted to import
three guns into Tanzania for your safari. Handguns, together with automatic and semiautomatic weapons are strictly prohibited.
-2-
Recommended calibers for dangerous game are .375 H&H Magnum, .416 Rigby and the
.470 Express. For the plains game hunt (long range shooting) use telescopic sights.
You are allowed to import 200 cartridges for each different caliber or gauge, which is sufficient. Please bring your own ammunition.
Kilombero North Safaris arranges all import/export permits as required in Tanzania for firearms and ammunition, which are subject to Import Duty.
Airlines require that firearms and ammunition be checked. Firearms should be securely cased
and unloaded, with ammunition in a separate container.
You must advise the commercial airline that you are traveling with firearms and ammunition.
Each Airline has strict and individual restrictions as the weight and packaging, so please
check with the Airline as to their requirements upon booking.
Cites Permits
Cites permits from your country of residence (or country to where your trophies are to be
shipped), must be obtained for the animals you wish to hunt.
Please note Kilombero North Safaris are not responsible for obtaining CITES and other import permits for your final destination.

Kilombero Valley
For years untold, the Kilombero Valley has been the choice destination for the serious and discerning Hunter,
and from it we offer you over 7,000 sq/km of exclusive private concession. With vast floodplains, reed islands, forested hills and untamed rapids, Kilombero is the largest wetland of East Africa. It is home to a veritable biodiversity.
Big game roams freely, from magnificent and long-tusked Elephants to some of Africa's largest buffalo
herds. The Valley is home to enormous Crocodiles and abundant Hippos in the vast complex of its fresh water rivers. It is the place where a great presence of rare Puku is found and other antelope such as the Roosevelt Sable, Eland and Hartebeest.

Maasailand
LAKE NATRON SOUTH GCA is an intense landscape. It features the famous Rift Valley volcano of Lengai - the
only active volcano in East Africa. The area is dominated by the majestic Kitumbeine mountain rising close to
9,000 ft. It is here where the Maasai and wildlife co-inhabit the plains beneath Lengai that we encounter
most of the classic eastern Maasailand species, including Zebra, Impala, Wildebeest, Grant's and Thompson's
gazelle, Gerenuk, Lesser Kudu, DikDik and Fringe Eared Oryx.
KITWAI NORTH: Kitwai features the topography of the famed Maasai Steppe of which they are part. Located
on the most Southern Easterly corner of the steppe, it is an extension of acacia woodland and thorn scrub
with wide-open plains. Large herds of Eland, Zebra and Grants Gazelle move in with the arrival of the rains
from December and stay on through to March. Other species, Impala, Lesser Kudu, Dik Dik, Steenbok, and
Grants Gazelle all make for good hunting. in this area.

Selous Game Reserve LU1/2 and L1
SELOUS GAME RESERVE LU1/2 and L1 One word perfectly describes this part of Tanzania: ABUNDANCE. Everything here is "more". Thanks to the great rivers, lakes and vast wetlands, the wildlife attraction to this region is tremendous. Designated as a World Heritage Site, with over 30,000 sq/km of stunning and diverse
flora and fauna, the Selous is the largest game reserve in the world.
While there are many habitat types, the deciduous miombo woodland dominates over the rocky acacia-clad
hills, gallery and ground water forests, swamps and lowland rain forests. A safari in the Selous will allow you
to encounter large herds of Elephant, massive Cape Buffalo and Nyasa Wildebeest. Throughout this vast
province, the big cats reign supreme: namely the mighty Lion and the all-elusive Leopard.
